I owned one of these marvelous cars along with a 190E-2.3 16V that was terrible in comparison to the majestic and bulletproof W126.. the 126 was in my late father-in-laws view the last best Mercedes. He was a 41 year certified MB tech and shop foreman at the San Antonio dealership.
Whoever is thinking of buying this nice car should snatch up the Euro (E-Code) headlights also auctioned on this site. Easy to switch out the hideous US DOT headlights for the far superior Euro versions. Easy to install and the difference in seeing down the road is amazing. Run straight Phillips H4 bulbs 55watts. Converted all my Mercs/Porsches/BMW’s
The W116’s are fabulous cars. I recently sold my Euro 350SE to a big MB collector. It never gave me any trouble on many long distance drives. It was definitely not a garage queen. This car has all the main maintenance things attended to and cosmetically very nice. A word of warning. A friend with a 6.9 let his sit too long with not so fresh oil in the sump. He decided to see how fast he could get from Dallas to Houston. The old sludgy oil had the consistency of a scab and when heated at over 100mph, the “scab” let loose causing all sorts of internal engine damage.
I have one of these wheels on my 300CE-24 Sportline. It complements the car perfectly. As a steering wheel it is perfect for guiding the car through the twisties.
These are fabulous steering wheels. I bought one in Germany for use on my Euro W116 350SE and later on my Euro C124 300CE-24 Sportline. Mine is black. This blue one would look good on the 300CE-24 because of the black and blue Sportline colors. We could swap after purchase.
