This 1982 Mercedes-Benz 300TD was reportedly ordered new by a Mercedes-Benz employee in Germany. Following their ownership, it was stored in Germany for approximately 25 years before it was relocated to Spain in 2023 by the owner of Mercedes spare parts specialists, BL Spares, who undertook a full refurbishment of the car. The work included partially disassembling the car for a repaint and an interior refresh, a mechanical overhaul of the 3.0-liter diesel inline-five, brakes, and electrical system, retrofitting a 5-speed manual transmission and an air conditioning system, and more. The car is finished in Signal Red over Black Frabric, and additional features include 14″ Bundt alloy wheels, disc brakes, a sunroof, roof rails, Euro lighting and bumpers, and a Pioneer CD stereo head unit with bluetooth and upgraded speakers. The seller acquired the car in March 2026 and drove over 1,600 kilometers between France, Spain, and England before importing the car into the U.S. This S123 300TD now resides in Arlington, Virginia and is offered with a clean Illinois title in the seller’s name.
The car is finished in Signal Red (568) from the factory, and received a full repaint during its refurbishment in Spain. The seller notes that some rust repair was also performed at that time and all windows were removed for the repaint. Replacement Euro headlights and taillights are fitted along with factory Euro bumpers. Additional exterior details include polished roof rails and trim, a manually-operated sunroof, and a heated rear window with wiper. Detailed photos are provided in the gallery below.
Factory 14″ Bundt alloy wheels are mounted with 195/70 Mazzini Eco307 tires that were installed during the refurbishment and show 2022 date codes. The brake pads, rotors, and hoses were reportedly replaced within the last 12-24 months.
The front seats and folding rear bench are trimmed in black vinyl with herringbone fabric inserts. The driver’s seat upholstery was repaired during the refurbishment and the dashboard shows some minor cracks beginning to form. The car was not factory optioned with AC, however, an air conditioning system with an OEM reconditioned compressor was added. An upgraded sound system has also been added with a Pioneer CD stereo head unit featuring bluetooth capability, a subwoofer, and Pioneer and JBL speakers. Portions of the headliner are loose as documented in the photos. The rear seats can be folded down and a spare tire and cover are located in the cargo area.
A four-spoke steering wheel frames a 180-kmh speedometer, an analog clock, and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows 114k kilometers (~71k miles). The seller notes the fuel gauge reads intermittently and sometimes gets stuck at the halfway mark. The electrical system was refurbished and the turn signal and light switches were replaced within the last 2 years.
This 300TD is powered by a naturally aspirated 3.0-liter diesel inline-five which was overhauled between 2024 and 2025 during the refurbishment. The car came from the factory with a 4-speed manual gearbox which was replaced with a 5-speed manual transmission at the same time. Additional work noted includes a rebuild of the fuel pump, new pistons and rings, timing chain and tensioners, gaskets, glow plugs, filters, gaskets, hardware, radiator, heater valve, driveline mounts, and driveshaft bushings. Records for all of the work mentioned are included in the sale.
The seller has provided a walk around and driving video of the car below.
The W/S123 Wagons have achieved a cult status that seems to truly transcend marques. Their incredibly stout build quality and legendary longevity are masked behind a friendly face that wins approving nods from nearly all perceptive passers-by. While many may chalk this adoration up to nostalgia - sourced of the mind’s eye from those of us who grew up riding in the back of these machines – the 300TD wagon is more than just a party trick. These loveable long-haulers boast bank vault build quality, timeless styling and everyday economical usability with the OM617; provided you’re not in too much of a hurry, of course. This example hails from Germany and features the European spec bumpers and lighting which perfectly fit the sillouette of this long roof Benz. The herringbone classic Black Cloth interior and 5-speed manual are a welcoming sight each time the door opens. Following a recent refurbishment in Spain, this S123 now resides stateside and offers the opportunity to get a proper Euro diesel wagon with 3 pedals.
