skarthur bid $4,750

Thanks again for the very prompt and detailed response, If it's just some residue from the washer fluid, I don't need to burden you with making additional videos. It's a great looking E320.
My apologies, After a closer review of your photos, I have two additional questions. The photos of the headlisghts show some white speckling, is this (as I would guess) residue from the headlight washing equipment, and if it is, can you remove it and post some additional photos demonstrating this? Second, am I correct in saying the headliner is sagging? Thanks again
Cheers , Thanks for the detailed response! I did notice in the listing description that the tires were old (at least they're Continentals). Since you confirmed that all electronics work as intended with the exception of the non-functional multi contour adjustor for the driver seat, I guess my only other question would be to double check that there is no leaking/seeping/weeping present on the engine, whether it be on the valve covers, breather covers, main seals, or any other area. Thanks again for the very well presented and professional listing.
Great looking E320, You mentioned an inspection, were there any items found either need immediate attention or attention in the near future? Would you be willing to share images of those inspection documents? You also mentioned familiarity with the previous owners, do you either have, or would you be able to attain, any further details regarding the accident which resulted in damage to the side of the vehicle some years back? Thank you, and good luck with the auction!
@CICBarkeep Thanks for taking the time to educate me on the matter. I'm not much of a mechanic, and as I had already decided not to bid on this lot, I flipped through those photos pretty quickly. Are we talking about the missing plastic tray and the scrape to the oil pan? It's definitely something that should have been presented more openly. So maybe it's good we're having this conversation (in case this car somehow ends up on auction again, the discussion will be available for others). The damage doesn't look too bad to me, but again, I'm not much of a mechanic, and replacing the oil pan is expensive - better not to risk it. Good catch.
@CICBarkeep That's a fair point, the seller was less than gracious with his reply to you, and yes, I did see that photo showing the rust beneath the car. There was more than one reason I chose not to bid on this car, including its location and the likelihood of some rust being present. I'm not saying that every comment made here was improper, just that people coming to an auction page to only say things like, "this is the worst presented auction I have ever seen, and that's saying something", is not constructive and, yes, I would call it trolling. That quote is, to my recollection very close to the exact words used by another site member here. Other non-constructive comments included members expressing that the car shouldn't have been listed a second time after it didn't meet reserve during its first auction on this site. Not only is it not constructive, it's completely irrelevant, as the people running the site obviously disagreed, since they ran it again. I feel comments like those do little more than put the person they're directed at on tilt, and make it harder for everyone to get the information they're after. Just my opinion on these types of exchanges.
@Befanob I do agree that asking detailed questions and getting detailed answers is what makes bidding in an online auction viable. I have no objection there. When I asked the seller questions during his previous listings, I was able to get good answers (even if I had to press the question). My only issue is with the denigrating comments, and slowness of moderators to act in response to those comments. Saying things like, "this is the worst presented listing I have ever seen" is simply "not constructive" (even if it were true). There were other rude and non-constructive comments as well.
@CICBarkeep I agree that the auction could have been handled better, but some of the comments made were definitely "not constructive" to use the the site's own verbiage. Some of those comments have now been removed by the moderators, but rather late in the auction I'd say and only after damaging the seller's outcome in the auction, in my estimation. I'm not asking you to agree, just stating what I see. If comments like some of those made here were made on sites like carsandbids or bringatrailer, they certainly would have been taken down immediately. The information from the previous auctions are public knowledge for anyone who cared to look. It was clear that there was some rust which the seller had stated multiple times had been removed, there was no mention of motor mounts being replaced - the seller said they weren't needing replacement at this time, the suspension components are new, and therefore aren't a concern for rust, it's pretty well all there.
Okay, the seller's level of participation in this auction has not been exemplary, but what is honestly more disturbing to me is the way @thembmarket has allowed for this auction be, what can only be described as, trolled. I feel pretty bad for the treatment the @seller has received here.
Congrats, great car at a great price. I would have loved to keep bidding but I'm actually in the market for a wagon or sedan. At those prices I had to try though.
Do absolutely all of the electronics work as intended? Sunroof, rear sun blind, A/C, stereo, etc?
Any issues resulting from the larger than stock wheels and lowering springs? Rubbing, etc?
I love the 4.3 M113 V8, in the W210 E Class it pulls effortlessly, in this smaller chasis I bet it's a lot of fun. Great looking color combo, and the Carlsson wheels add some period correct flair. Good luck with the auction.
Can you share details about what went into the recent suspension refresh? Were all parts replaced with original components used in the AMG trim? Thanks.
Also, I noticed the car was "Designated as a gross polluter" a few years back. Will the car be smogged for a California buyer?
Does the soft-close feature work as intended?
Great looking set of wheels, these are going to look great on somebody's MB!
I'm not a fan of the headlamps. These particular aftermarket headlamps seem to be becoming increasingly popular, are original headlamp assemblies becoming difficult to find, or just too expensive?
Wow, someone got a steal here!
The level of conversation about the missing badges on a no reserve auction that's hovering under $2k is pretty funny. It's nice to see the AC system was serviced recently, does it function flawlessly? Did these have issues with failing stepper motors like some of the other models of this era? Are there any leaks whatsoever? Do all of the electronics function flawlessly (especially sunroof and rear sunshade)? About the wheels, the build sheet shows staggered AMG wheels, others have said these look to be sourced from a W211. Can you comment on how close of match these are in terms of the offset, width, staggering, etc? Could you also just throw out an estimate of what you would charge to get some proper wheels put back on? That's a lot of questions, so thanks in advance for your time! @SelectAutoNYC
Wow! It looks like you got a real steal of a deal here, @steelgator412 Congrats on the super cool car.
