@Iamavar You simply CANNOT be serious. I made no comment as to the mechanical condition of the car other than noting the missing front undercarriage panel, the gnarly looking oil pan, and the "rain" puddle that apparently appeared directly beneath the front of your E55 during what's obviously a sunny day.
@CICBarkeep What puddle are we talking about? Are you out of your mind? The car is outside and it's raining at the time of the photo
@CICBarkeep I find it most amusing to read comments from people completely ignorant of mechanics who make it seem like they understand something. I truly feel sorry for you. Keep buying the garbage you're used to.
@skarthur Yep, saw all the too, but the puddle of fluid beneath the car is what really caught my eye. Couldn't believe bidding continued for over an hour with no one asking about it. Enjoyed our conversation but it's over and done at this point, and time to let it go. Have a good one!
@CICBarkeep Thanks for taking the time to educate me on the matter. I'm not much of a mechanic, and as I had already decided not to bid on this lot, I flipped through those photos pretty quickly. Are we talking about the missing plastic tray and the scrape to the oil pan? It's definitely something that should have been presented more openly. So maybe it's good we're having this conversation (in case this car somehow ends up on auction again, the discussion will be available for others). The damage doesn't look too bad to me, but again, I'm not much of a mechanic, and replacing the oil pan is expensive - better not to risk it. Good catch.
@skarthur I knew this was going to be an auction worth watching from the first Q&A. Little did I know how crazy it would be. According to the ad he purchased the car 10 years and 40,000 miles ago. No receipts were provided for any of the work claimed and the last verifiable service (oil change) was done nearly 15,000 miles ago. So much for vouching for its condition. Reneges on a contract with C&B and seems genuinely offended they found him "guilty." Somehow gets a listing on this site, doesn't make reserve, gets a second listing, becomes frustrated and defensive, and RNM's yet again! Look, I feel for this guy in a way, but based on what I saw in photo 63, the high bidder should be thanking his lucky stars. Forget the rust and look again.
@CICBarkeep That's a fair point, the seller was less than gracious with his reply to you, and yes, I did see that photo showing the rust beneath the car. There was more than one reason I chose not to bid on this car, including its location and the likelihood of some rust being present. I'm not saying that every comment made here was improper, just that people coming to an auction page to only say things like, "this is the worst presented auction I have ever seen, and that's saying something", is not constructive and, yes, I would call it trolling. That quote is, to my recollection very close to the exact words used by another site member here. Other non-constructive comments included members expressing that the car shouldn't have been listed a second time after it didn't meet reserve during its first auction on this site. Not only is it not constructive, it's completely irrelevant, as the people running the site obviously disagreed, since they ran it again. I feel comments like those do little more than put the person they're directed at on tilt, and make it harder for everyone to get the information they're after. Just my opinion on these types of exchanges.
@skarthur I was rude enough to open his eyes to the fact additional photos were encouraged and got a smart-ass answer in response. Sincerely, Mr. Google BTW, if you haven't already check out photo 63. It was posted an hour and a half prior to auctions end. Would have said something during the sale, but since it seemed to be of no concern to the bidders, it was no concern of mine.
@Befanob I do agree that asking detailed questions and getting detailed answers is what makes bidding in an online auction viable. I have no objection there. When I asked the seller questions during his previous listings, I was able to get good answers (even if I had to press the question). My only issue is with the denigrating comments, and slowness of moderators to act in response to those comments. Saying things like, "this is the worst presented listing I have ever seen" is simply "not constructive" (even if it were true). There were other rude and non-constructive comments as well.
@skarthur Also, I'm not asking for you to agree with me. While the history is public knowledge, the details were not. This seller had called the prior winner of the cars and bids auction a liar but never provided his side of the story until I asked him directly. His answer here was informative and clarifying enough for me to act on, whereas the information provided before was not. Regarding the rust, the main exterior rust disclosed before was on the passenger side fender at roughly 10:00. The original pictures in the listing were not detailed enough to make out if the rust had been repaired, and the seller's pictures today did not include the area of concern. Given that I can't see the car in person before bidding, and the bids are binding, I don't think asking for those details is unreasonable; maybe we have different opinions here. I agree that some other comments(now deleted) felt like piling on, but my questions were not trolling.
@CICBarkeep I agree that the auction could have been handled better, but some of the comments made were definitely "not constructive" to use the the site's own verbiage. Some of those comments have now been removed by the moderators, but rather late in the auction I'd say and only after damaging the seller's outcome in the auction, in my estimation. I'm not asking you to agree, just stating what I see. If comments like some of those made here were made on sites like carsandbids or bringatrailer, they certainly would have been taken down immediately. The information from the previous auctions are public knowledge for anyone who cared to look. It was clear that there was some rust which the seller had stated multiple times had been removed, there was no mention of motor mounts being replaced - the seller said they weren't needing replacement at this time, the suspension components are new, and therefore aren't a concern for rust, it's pretty well all there.
I want to thank each and every one of you for participating in the auction, even though some "smart guys" tried to ruin the atmosphere. Good luck to everyone!

@skarthur Sorry, I have to disagree with the troll assessment. The auction history of the car is in a word, unusual, direct questions have been answered rather vaguely, and the seller's general attitude is questionable at best. You reap what you sow my friend.

@thembmarket thank you.

@Befanob I'll try to add
@Iamavar Thanks for providing the information.
@Befanob You want a tautology, no problem. The case was as follows: when I had a conversation with the organizers of the previous auction, they assured me that the car would be sold for much more than it turned out to be in reality, although I had set up a reservation of a certain amount. In the end they persuaded me to exhibit my car without reservation, and I gave in to their entreaties, but I could not even imagine that in the end they would replay everything and make me guilty, although initially, as I said, the agreement was different.
Okay, the seller's level of participation in this auction has not been exemplary, but what is honestly more disturbing to me is the way @thembmarket has allowed for this auction be, what can only be described as, trolled. I feel pretty bad for the treatment the @seller has received here.

@Iamavar The best picture to see the rust repair is image seven. However, it's not clear enough to inspect in detail. Can you get a close-up photo?
@Iamavar I'll be more direct and hope I get an answer because I'd really like to bid. You sold the car on cars and bids no reserve and it hammered at $8,000 but you did not deliver the car. The person that won indicated you asked for more money and refused to sell it at 8,000, and you were subsequently banned from that platform. In your previous MB Market listing you said the previous seller lied but did not explain why the no reserve transaction didn't move forward and why Cars and Bids deemed it to be your fault. I did not intend to air this here, I was sincerely hoping for you to speak a little more on this so I could bid with confidence, and I'd still like to, if you can provide some detail.
@Befanob I was going to bid but the lack of actual answers is troublesome.
@Befanob please click on the link of the previous auction, there you will find the answer to your question. Also, you can open the car and bids auction and compare before and after photos.

I'm very interested, can you provide some pictures of the rust repaired area(s)? Can you explain in a little more detail the failure to deliver from the cars and bids auction? I'm looking for some reassurance that this auction will not result in a similiar situation.
@Iamavar How the F would I know. I simply clicked on "Why the MB Market" at the top of this page and scrolled down to "Selling a Car" where the offending information was found. It's your car, your listing, and your problem to figure out. Sincerely yours, Mr. Google
@CICBarkeep Ok, Mr.Google, then maybe you can tell me where this button is so I can attach new photos here? Because I don't see this option on my phone.

@Iamavar Additional photos are not only allowed, they're encouraged. See Below. During the auction, sellers will be encouraged to answer questions by commenters and bidders. Auctions are most successful when questions are answered thoroughly and honestly. Provide photos when asked and do your best to be upfront about your car's condition.

Thank you. Texting you now.
@ShawnS The buckets are what you are driving about. Provide your email or your phone number and I will try to send the photos you are asking for, as the auction does not give that option once it has been started.
Can we get some undercarriage pics...fender wells too so that we can rule out rust and or leaks at the very least? This was a northern car so rust would be a normal occurrence on these rust buckets. Could you give us some piece of mind please?
@JTBshaw Honestly, I'm not really sure what else you want me to tell you. Check out the previous auction and you will find all the answers to your questions. The car was not sold at the previous auction, only because it did not reach the reserve amount. I hope this kind of issue will not come up in the future.
I find it strange that MB marketplace would run this car for a third time after looking into the previous auctions. The same car no-saled on C&B in 2022 and then again on MB in January. The C&B auction ended under sketchy circumstances and when questioned about it on the last auction the seller deflected. There is also no mention on this posting or the previous one about the rust bubbles that were apparently repaired? There is no mention here of paintwork that would have been done to complete that. All of this on top of the sellers non-response to the below question. It really begs the question as to why this car was approved for a third time? Certainly doesn't flll me with confidence as a fan and potential bidder on MB Market. I emplore any potential buyers to search the vin and read through the previous listings. Its hard to say what the truth is but the lack of transparency is worrisome.
@RBBrooke and that response from the seller is why I now have no confidence in bidding. Great, direct questions with a poor response by the seller.
That would be a "non answer" or BS for "No those items have not been addressed".
@RBBrooke Hi, a lot of maintenance was done immediately after purchasing this vehicle, so I can confidently say that I vouch for its condition.
Have the motor and tranny mounts been replaced? When was the last time the brakes and tranny were flushed? Valve gaskets replaced?
