This 1981 Mercedes-Benz 300SD was first purchased on April 28, 1981 from Smythe European Mercedes in San Jose, California. The car remained with it's original owner until 2021 when the selling dealer purchased the car from the original owner's estate and it was subsequently sold to the current owner. Finished in Light Ivory (623) over Palomino Leather (234), this sedan is powered by a 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-five paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Service records from new are included with the sale showing a thorough recomissioning in 2021 which included new tires, fuel pump, water pump, injectors, filters, a battery, and all fresh fluids. Features include a power sunroof, power windows, power mirrors, automatic climate control, and the original Becker head unit. This W126 shows only 57k miles from new and is offered on consignment by the selling dealer with factory literature, comprehensive service records, a clean Carfax report, and a clean California title.
The car is finished in Light Ivory (623) with contrasting gray lower body cladding. The glass is original with OEM logos displayed and no delamination visible in the rear window. Exterior features include North American Market headlamps, original brightwork, a power sunroof, power antenna, and a dual-tone black and blue pinstripe. The car presents in excellent condition with no imperfections to note.
Factory 14″ wheels wear 195/70 Hankook Kinergy tires which were fitted in 2021. Braking is handled by disc brakes at all four corners. A brake fluid flush was performed in 2021 and a full-size factory spare is located under the trunk floor.
The cabin is trimmed in Palomino Leather (234) with color-coordinated trim, carpets, and lower dashboard. The steering wheel, shift knob, and upper dashboard are trimmed in black and remain original. Original Zebrano wood adorns the dashboard, center console, and door card trim. Factory features include a power-operated sunroof, central locking, power seats and windows, and an original Becker head unit. All power features are reportedly working and operational. The Becker stereo was recently refurbished to ensure proper functionality.
A four-spoke airbag steering wheel frames a 140-mph speedometer, a 6k-RPM tachometer with an inset analog clock, an external temperature readout, and a combination gauge showing fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The six-digit analog odometer shows 57k original documented miles.
The 3.0-liter OM617 turbodiesel inline-five was factory-rated for 120 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque when new. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. Complete service records are included along with a stamped service booklet. Records from 2021 show a thorough recomissioning in 2021 which included new tires, fuel pump, water pump, injectors, filters, a battery, and all fresh fluids. The engine bay and undercarriage show factory original cosmoline coatings and remain in highly preserved original condition. Additional underbody photos are viewable in the gallery.
The attached Carfax report lists no accidents or damage and shows first entry in 2000. This W126 has 57k miles and is offered on consignment by the selling dealer with factory literature, comprehensive service records, a clean Carfax report, and a clean California title.
A video of the engine has been provided below.

Thanks to all for supporting this auction. We'll continue marketing the car to realize a value that's commensurate to the quality of the car.
Great auction for a beautiful car! Looks like the seller knows what he has and will hopefully find a buyer who appreciates that this is a better deal than any new Camry.

can we have a short video of a blow-by test? 1 warm engine fully then let idle (snapshot of temp gauge) 2. remove oil filler cap - 3. have someone rev engine slightly - the blow-by vapor should reverse direction and be sucked back into the filler cap, if so, the engines passes the "blow-by check". Thanks

@mdrei Thanks for the note and I apologize for the delay responding. The AC functions nicely and has been updated to R134 refrigerant.

What a phenomenal example. First year, Light Ivory, Palomino, original California plates and frames. This spec is so representative of 1981, which was really still the late '70s.
@vido Yes, a PPI local to me is fine. There are a number of competent shops close to me.
Does the HVAC system work as designed? Has it been converted to 134a or still running R12 Freon if operative? Thank You.
@benzwishes Yes, there is a reserve here. Typically auctions will note 'No Reserve' prominently in the heading of no reserve auctions.
The only survivors of the Apocalypse will be cockroaches and Mercedes diesels.

it’s a beauty! Is there any rust noted from recent inspections? Is it possible to schedule and complete a PPI?
reserve on this?
