This 1991 Mercedes-Benz 300TE-24 was modified by AMG when new and features the 990 AMG code on the datacard along with a stamped engine block. Finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic (744) over Black Leather (271), power is provided by an AMG 3.4L M104 inline-six engine mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. The datacard shows the car was originally ordered in Stuttgart and spent time in Japan before being imported to the US in early 2022 under previous ownership. Features include authentic 17″ Evo wheels, heated and power-adjustable front sport seats, a Sony stereo with Bluetooth connectivity, and rear-facing third-row seats. Service and maintenance receipts from 2023 total ~$20k with copies provided in the gallery. Now showing 147k kilometers (~91k miles), this S124 AMG is now offered by the selling dealer in California with a NMVTIS report, a Japan Vehicle Information & History Report, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Montana title.

The body is finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic (744) with matching body cladding and an authentic AMG body kit consisting of both front and rear bumpers, and extended side skirts. The front end has been updated to a facelift model with an appropriate Gen 2 AMG body kit. Additional exterior features include headlight wipers, fender-mounted indicator lights, roof rails, and OEM window visors. Chrome AMG exhaust tips were installed in 2023.

Six-spoke 17″ Evo wheels are mounted with 235/45 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires showing 2017 date codes. The car features Acceleration Skid Control (ASR) and anti-lock disc brakes. An alignment was completed in October 2023 and pictures of the back of the wheels showing factory part number and specs are included in the gallery.

The interior is trimmed in Black Leather (271) with burled walnut wood trim accents. Sport seats are fitted in both the front and rear with the front featuring power-adjustability and heat. Other amenities include an electric sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, a split-folding second row bench, and a Bluetooth-capable Sony stereo with a USB port. The seller notes the upholstery was re-adhered and the driver’s interior door handle was repaired in 2023. The center console trim was also replaced and the seller notes the pillars show some wear along with the driver seat bolster.

The airbag steering wheel is power-adjustable and frames an AMG-branded 280km/h speedometer flanked by an 8k rpm gauge and auxilary guages for coolant temperature, fuel level, and oil pressure. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows 147k kilometers (~91k miles).

The factory 24-valve M104 inline-six was modified by AMG, increasing displacement to 3.4 liters and features a larger bore and longer stroke. The underside of the engine block is AMG stamped with matching AMG engine stickers on the valve cover and radiator support. Power to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. The transmission was serviced and flushed in 2023. Additional service includes refurbishment of the fuel distributor, adjusting the exhaust system and throttle-linkage assembly, and replacing vacuum hoses and an oxygen sensor along with the intake manifold gasket, fuel injector seals, air-flow meter potentiometer, idle air control valve, and associated hoses. The Carfax report shows first entry in February 2022 upon import to the U.S. The mileage inconsistency on the Carfax is due to a kilometers vs miles conversion. With 6.0-liter pre-merger cars hitting all time highs, more attention has been turned towards other AMG models as enthusiasts look for more accessible avenues of enjoying the greatest hits of the tuner brand. This unique W124 3.4 example comes complete with a full AMG body kit, Evo wheels, and extensive recent servicing since 2023. While not packing the same punch as the DOHC 6.0, the bored and stroked 3.4-liter M104 delivers an impressive 268 horsepower in a time when other straight sixes struggled to break 200. Not to mention a 6.0L Hammer will run you well into the six figures and even breaking one million dollars for the right spec. Most notably, this AMG comes with the 990 option code on the datacard indicating the car was destined to be modified by AMG and is an enormous value add for future collectibility. We speculate that this car was originally modified by AMG Germany and later received the facelift front end update and matching Gen 2 AMG body kit and badging by AMG Japan. With a stamped engine block and 990 option code, this pre-merger AMG wagon is sure to be a highlight of any enthusiast’s collection and should prove to be a smart buy which stands the test of time as values rise.
