This 1998 Mercedes-Benz SL60 AMG was delivered new to its first owner in Japan before being imported to the UAE by its current owner now showing 117k km, approximately 73k miles, from new. Finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic (744) over Black Leather (261), power is provided by a hand-assembled 6.0-liter M119 V8 linked with a five-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. AMG modifications include two-piece alloy wheels, an AMG exhaust, AMG body styling, a performance steering wheel, a signed ashtray cover, an AMG shift knob, AMG gauges and AMG floor mats. Factory equipment includes Xenon headlamps with wiper/washers, power mirrors, power-adjustable heated front seats, folding rear jump seats, automatic climate control, cruise control and rain-sensing wipers. Partial service history is included with the car. This 1998 SL60 AMG is now offered for sale by MKB Motoren Manufaktur on behalf of the current owner with the original manufacturer’s literature, both remote keys and a clean UAE title in the current owner’s name.
The exterior is finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic (744) and features AMG body styling with a sculpted front apron, side skirts and rear bumper. The paint-matched panoramic hardtop is removable and features a glass top. A fully power-operated black fabric soft top folds into the car when not in use. Maintenance records show the replacement of a soft top hydraulic cylinder in February 2021. Additional exterior features include Xenon headlamps with headlamp wiper/washers, rain-sensing wipers, front fog lamps, power folding mirrors, an automatic antenna and chrome-plated dual-exit AMG exhaust tips. The exterior shows no signs of damage or rust.
The 18” AMG two-piece alloy wheels wear Nankang tires which measure 245/40 front and 275/35 rear. AMG equipment fitted to the SL60 includes AMG-tuned suspension with a front anti-roll bar and silver AMG brake calipers front and rear.
The cabin is trimmed in Black Leather (261) with black AMG floor mats and features black wood trim which lines the center console, dashboard, door panels and steering wheel. Both front seats are fully-power operated and heated with three-position memory for both driver and passenger. Interior modifications include a signed AMG ashtray cover, chrome AMG door locks, AMG door sills, a wood/leather AMG steering wheel and an AMG shift knob. Interior amenities include dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, dual cup holders and a removable draft deflector. The front seats fold forward to provide access to the rear folding jump seats.
The AMG steering wheel frames an AMG gauge cluster which highlights a 300-km/h speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock and gauges for fuel level, economy, coolant temperature and oil pressure. The digital odometer currently shows 117k km, approximately 73k miles, from new.
This R129 is powered by an AMG-built M119 V8 which has been bored and stroked to 6.0 liters and received AMG-specific cams and valves, ported heads and forged internals resulting in a factory-rated output of 381 horsepower and 428 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission. An aluminum strut bar can be seen mounted in the engine bay. Included with the car is a document from Mercedes-Benz of Abu Dhabi confirming that the engine and transmission are original to the chassis.
Partial dealer service history is included with the vehicle with the most recent maintenance including a new radiator in June 2021. The seller notes that the car will receive a full service from Mercedes-Benz of Abu Dhabi before being delivered to its new owner including an engine oil and oil filter change along with a complete inspection. Underbody photos show few signs of corrosion along with the AMG exhaust and AMG part numbers on the underside of the body panels.
This 1998 SL60 AMG is now offered for sale by MKB Motoren Manufaktur on behalf of the current owner in Abu Dhabi, UAE with the original manufacturer’s literature, partial service history, both remote keys and a clean UAE title in the current owner’s name.
A power-top demonstration and walk-around video has been provided by the seller below.
With great success in tuning the M117 engine, AMG adopted a similar philosophy with the new M119 V8. Using a stroker crank and a larger bore to increase displacement from 5.0 to 6.0 liters along with various performance parts including new camshafts and valves, ported heads and forged internals, AMG extracted 381 horsepower and 428 lb-ft of torque. Also fitted to the W124 E60, the 6.0-liter M119 AMG engine would be offered in the R129 chassis and badged as an SL60 AMG. For model year 1996, the SL60 AMG became available to order directly from dealerships in select markets and was produced through 1998 when the M119 was superseded by the M113. Over seven years of production, only 633 units are believed to have been produced. This left-hand drive Japanese-market example comes finished in a classic color combination and features a unique black wood trim and extensive AMG modifications.

@blakleyleonard Thanks! Interesting take and that's exactly what I was hoping for.
@JeffersonStPts It’s a really fun driving experience. Noticeable difference over a 500 or 600. The torque increase is what you notice the most. In my opinion, this is the perfect hot rod german roadster because you can get V12+ power but without the V12 complications.

@JeffersonStPts I was able to drive one of these in Germany a while back. Notably good compared to any of the V8 cars I've driven stateside. The 119 always has a place in my heart though.
