This 1986 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3 was originally sold and delivered in Maryland where it remained with the first owner through 2023 and was purchased by the current owner on The MB Market in July 2024. Showing a clean 3-owner history, the car shows 91k miles from new, approximately 17k of which have been added by the seller. Finished in Smoke Silver Metallic (702) over Palomino MB-Tex (174), power is provided by a 2.3-liter inline-four mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. Factory equipment includes a power sliding sunroof, 10-way power front seats, power windows, power mirrors, automatic climate control, cruise control, and the original Becker head unit. The included Carfax report shows 14 service records beginning at 45,000 miles in 2002, with the earlier records unaccounted for from the original owner's estate. Service over the last two years includes new front brake pads and rotors, front and rear struts with strut mounts, new tires, and a new battery. This 190E is now offered for sale by the current owner with factory literature, two keys, the original data card, and a rebuilt Pennsylvania title.
The body is finished in Smoke Silver Metallic (702) and features contrasting gray side skirts, bumpers, and black impact strips. Exterior appointments include a power sliding sunroof, heated power-adjustable door mirrors, a heated rear window, heated windshield washers, and central locking. The automatic antenna is currently inoperable. In 2017, the car was involved in a parking lot accident resulting in rear and quarter panel damage. The original owner negotiated an insurance buy-back and completed the necessary repairs. The car has since passed all required safety inspections. The body shows normal wear including a small ding on the front right fender and some crazing up front. A small rust spot is present where the rear pillar meets the trunk on the passenger side, and early rust formation is noted near the driver's rear jack point. Both are photographed in the gallery.
The factory 15" Gullideckel wheels have been fitted with Michelin MXV4 tires measuring 185/65 at all four corners. Braking is handled by four-wheel power-assisted discs with ABS. The car will be sold with new rear rotors and pads. During the current owner's tenure, the front brakes also received new pads and rotors, along with new front and rear struts and strut mounts, new tires, and a new battery. A full-size spare and original tool kit are included in the trunk.
The cabin is trimmed in Palomino MB-Tex (174) with matching door panels and headrests, complemented by a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. Zebrano wood trim accents the center console and shifter panel. Both front seats offer 10-way power adjustability. Interior appointments include power windows, automatic climate control, cruise control, a locking glove compartment, a folding center armrest, and the original Becker head unit. The seller reports that the AC system and all other interior features are operational as intended. The driver's sun visor shows wear from original ownership and the passenger-side visor has a broken clip. The seller notes the blower motor can occasionally be squeaky.
The four-spoke steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock, a digital outside temperature display, fuel gauge, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The six-digit odometer currently reads 91k miles, 17k of which have been added by the seller over the last 2 years.
This W201 is powered by the M102 2.3-liter inline-four rated at 130 horsepower and 146 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. The car's last oil change was performed at 88,000 miles, with regular oil servicing intervals every 3,000 miles throughout current ownership. The car presently needs a new driver's front tire, an alignment, and a new muffler. Underbody photos are viewable in the gallery. In addition to the aforementioned brake and suspension work, the car also received a new distributor cap and rotor, along with spark plugs and wires in May 2025.
The Carfax report shows first entry in 2002 with linear mileage updates and registration history exclusively in Maryland until 2024 when it relocated to Pennsylvania. The car currently carries a valid Pennsylvania state inspection through October 2026. It is offered with factory literature, two keys, the original data card, and a rebuilt Pennsylvania title. The seller can assist with shipping arrangements if needed
The MB Market Insights
The W201 was one of Mercedes Benz’s first compacts in the electronic age. It was very thoroughly engineered as the company was run by the engineers in the golden days. The result was a light, compact car that delivered the refinement of a larger Mercedes-Benz sedan in a more nimble, accessible package. This particular example has been actively used as a daily driver. Making regular runs to Washington D.C. and other airport trips, the car has driven roughly 17k miles throughout current ownership spanning the last 2 years. With its classic Smoke Silver over Palomino color combination, factory Gullideckel wheels, and Zebrano wood trim, this 190E represents a compelling entry point into an increasingly sought-after classic. The seller is proud of the story this car carries and hopes the next owner will be equally enthusiastic to keep it going.
