This 1972 Mercedes-Benz 280SEL 4.5 was sold new by McNey Motorcars in Maryland and shows just under 98k miles on the odometer. Finished in Blue (903) over Blue Leather (245), power is provided by a 4.5-liter M117 V8 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. Equipment includes central locking, power windows, a Becker Europa II radio and automatic climate control. This W108 has received extensive recent service including all new window motors, new wood trim, new plugs, valve cover gaskets, brake booster hose, exhaust hangers, fuel pump mount, new rear shocks, sway bar end links left and right and an AC recharge. This 280SEL 4.5 is now offered for sale in Florida at No Reserve with manufacturer's literature, service manuals, the previously-removed original chrome and wood trim, original manufacturer’s literature, a full-size spare, recent and previous-owner service records, and a clean Florida title.
The exterior is finished in Blue (903) with chrome trim lining the front and rear bumpers, beltline and windows. A respray was undertaken by the previous owner and the paint now only shows minor imperfections and rock chips on the hood and roof; all of which are noted with specificity in the gallery. Minor rust remediation was performed on the rear passenger side under current ownership with the original chrome trim being replated or replaced at the same time. The seller has included the original chrome trim with the sale of the vehicle. The glass is heat-insulating and has an electrically-heated rear pane.
The 14” steel wheels wear Solarus tires measuring 205/75 on all four corners with date codes from 2019. The wheels are fitted with chrome hub caps with body color centers and show some signs of wear and fading. The seller reports that the rear shocks and sway bar end links were replaced in November 2021.
VDO instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer which sits alongside gauges for fuel level as well as coolant and oil temperature with an analog clock mounted in the center. The analog odometer currently reads 98k miles with approximately 100 miles being added by the current owner.
Power is provided by a 4.5-liter M117 V8 which is factory rated at 195 horsepower and 264 lb-ft of torque which is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission. Service performed in November 2021 included new spark plugs, valve cover gaskets, brake booster hose, exhaust hangers and fuel pump mount. An aftermarket electronic ignition coil sits in place of the factory unit.
This W108 280SEL 4.5 is now offered for sale in Miami, Florida with the original chrome and wood trim, full size spare, manufacturer’s literature and a clean Florida title.

Not a bad deal all around. Leaves room for a few odds and ends on what appears to be a basically quite sound car. Well done, all around.
Congrats.. Bit of a steal there.

@fuelfiles thank you. Shortly after I posed that Q I saw your notes in the earlier ad. I’m so sorry!
@JLKMB I do not have a way to demonstrate the car at the moment since it is in storage. The video that I made involves sound from two parts. One part is the exhaust with the microphone attached to it, making it sound that way and the other audio that lets you hear the keys and some wind noise from the inside is from the actual camera. I had two sources of audio in the video that I blended together. The car runs on all cylinders smoothly.
@fuelfiles on 2/9 you responded to a question by saying "what you're hearing is the microphone being placed too close to the actual tips of the exhaust causing the mic to record more of a putter than the tone.". Is that regarding the 6m:07s video just above the "The MB Market Insights" section or is there another video because, in that video, the mic is where the video recorder is on the back seat because it picks up the key being inserted into the ignition for example. So I don't think the issue is the proximity of the mic to the exhaust outlets. I'm wondering if the car is running on all cylinders. Do you have any way to demonstrate that it is running as it should? Thank you.
Sorry. Struggling with the comments this morning for some reason.
@Michr001 Do you mind emphasizing the number of the image? I can't seem to pick up on anything other than surface rust anywhere on the vehicle. Nothing visible that is cancerous on the car.
Trying to remove original question.

@MiltonMinty Thank you very much for the compliment. I like to present cars in a way that it leaves no questions in the air as far as the presentation is concerned. FOR ALL PARTIES INTERESTED This car was previously listed here, but reserve was not meant so we're running it again at no reserve. Since then, the car has been maintained in climate controlled storage with Hagerty garage in West Palm beach with the owner currently enjoying the green coupe I sold him and this car being started periodically and appropriately without having to be taken out. The previous listing that you can find here has some questions that have been answered that you or any other interested party might have in addition to extra 50 or so images of the underside in the gallery. ALL windows work, all switches work, even the buzzing for the seatbelt works as well. AC blows healthily and cold for a car of this vintage (In my personal preference, I would tint the windows with clear ceramic tint to have the cabin even cooler while maintaining that classic look) to where it can be driven during the day and it won't be uncomfortable. I'll have @thembmarket add the images from that collection to this one to avoid having to go back and forth, in the meantime feel free to visit this link; https://thembmarket.com/1972-mercedes-benz-280sel-4-5-1

Very nice presentation. Do all the buttons, switches, levers, knobs, etc. properly operate fully functioning windows, climate control, radio, lights, accessories, etc.? Do you have recent pictures of the underside? Thank you!

What is all the extra wiring around the battery?
$4,500 bid placed by @WILLIEWILZ973
@nptmbm The exhaust was replaced and what you're hearing is the microphone being placed too close to the actual tips of the exhaust causing the mic to record more of a putter than the tone. It also is a naturally quiet engine. As far as alignment is concerned the car is in need of one after addressing the tie rods.
Is the alignment needing attention? Also, in the video it kinda sounded like the muffler or exhaust was leaking. Can you comment on both items?

@Jim_Rosenthal In reference to the rust repairs done to the car, by the rear quarters there was minor bubbling underneath the aluminum trim. The trim was removed and all rust present was grinded down, repaired, appropriately matched and covered in new trim with the original aluminum trim included in the sale of the vehicle as well as various other parts seen in the gallery.
Welcome back ladies and gentlemen, we are pleased to bring this car back to the platform at NO RESERVE! This is a great example of classic Mercedes luxury and power. Having had recent services and strong bones, this is a car that is excellent for a date night or nice stroll into town. Having served its current owner (whom we are representing) as a reliable and enjoyable Sunday cruiser/Golf day commuter, this Benz is now ready to be enjoyed by its next Mercedes Benz enthusiast!
Nice car. Can you specify what rust repairs were done, if you would? Thank you.
