This 1986 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16v Cosworth is a Japanese-market example that is reportedly one of only 2,374 W201 Cosworths produced in 1987. Finished in Black Pearl Metallic (199) over black leather and plaid cloth (071) interior, this sport sedan is powered by a Euro spec 2.3-liter inline-four (M102) paired with a four-speed automatic transmission (4G-Tronic). Additional equipment includes factory Recaro sport seats (front and rear), Remus exhaust and rear spoiler, Bilstein shocks and H&R lowering springs, a limited-slip differential, European-specification headlights, a sunroof, 16″ aluminum wheels, and a CD stereo. The car was imported to the US in 2019 under prior ownership before it was acquired by the selling dealer in February 2020. Subsequent work has reportedly included replacement of the fan clutch, an A/C service and fluid service. This 190E 2.3-16 shows 74k kilometers (~46k miles) and is now offered with a trunk mounted emergency warning triangle, original YANASE-JDM floormats, a tool kit, manufacturer’s literature, and a clean Missouri title in the seller’s name.
Silver-finished 16” aluminum wheels are sourced from a W124 and wear Goodyear Revspec RS-02 tires. The suspension has been upgraded with H&R lowering springs and Bilstein shocks at all four corners along with four-wheel disc brakes. A full Remus exhaust with polished outlets is fitted beneath the car.
The cabin features factory Recaro sport bucket seats trimmed in black leather with plaid cloth (071) inserts, matching door panel inserts, and black carpets protected by original YANASE-JDM branded carpet floor mats. Appointments include an original AMG steering wheel manufactured by MOMO, electric windows, an electric sunroof, electronic climate control, cruise control, power windows, power locks, heated and powered passenger sideview mirror, a replacement wood shifter knob, and an aftermarket CD stereo. The seller notes that a crack in the a/c vent plastic surround shroud is present above the center stack. Close up photos of the interior are viewable in the gallery.
The leather-wrapped AMG steering wheel frames a 260-km/h speedometer, a tachometer with a 7k-rpm redline, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, fuel economy, and fuel level. Readouts for voltage and oil temperature are mounted in the center stack along with a lap timer. The six-digit odometer shows 74k kilometers (~46k miles), approximately 3k of which were added by the seller.
The 2.3-liter inline-four M102 was designed in collaboration with Cosworth and was factory rated at 185 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque in European specification. The engine utilizes Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection for fuel delivery and all reportedly operate impressively according to the seller.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through an automatic four-speed (4G-Tronic) transmission with a limited-slip differential and directed by rack-and-pinion power steering from the cabin. The car is reportedly rust free and detailed photos of the underbody and suspension are viewable in the gallery.
The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists history in Washington State and Missouri from its first entry in October 2019.

Did it sell?
$26,000 for a non U.S. market example that no longer has the SLS was a fair offer. The SLS parts to restore the SLS are no longer available. Originality is key in MB world and it clearly counts for the W201 16v as evidenced by the bids that were placed for this vehicle.

Can anyone comment on how these high-revving 16v cars perform with the automatic transmission? I know everyone (seems to) prefer the dogleg, but my understanding is the autobox isn't bad at all in these cars. I'd love to hear feedback from someone who has experience driving the auto version since Ive never had the pleasure of driving one myself. Thanks and Good Luck to the Seller!

As much as I usually love Gullideckels, I have to say this car looks really sharp on the 124 wheels. And the cloth interior really sets off the Recaro sport seats nicely. Great car and great presentation. Good luck!

Ahhh I know this car! The ex-SodoMoto ROW 16V. I always liked it back then even if it was an autobox…. GLWS!
