This set of Safari Seats were an option for W111 / W112 and are being sold by the current private seller out of Matthews, North Carolina. Covered in red MB-Tex and believed to be the original upholstery, these Safari Seats were a rare option to tick on the W111/W112 cars and would fit in either the coupes or cabriolets. The standard seats were thicker, wider, and less bolstered, whereas these optional bucket seats from Mercedes-Benz provided tighter bolstering and a lower seating position. This set reportedly came out of a 1962 220SE coupe. This is a complete front and rear seat set that will bolt in using existing hardware.
The red MB-Tex is believed to be original and shows in good condition throughout. The seller notes the stitching on the top of the rear backrests are coming undone. There is little wear throughout and each piece shows in very original condition.
Chrome finishes and brackets show some pitting on the hinges. The articulation mechanism reports to be working which includes slide and tilt for the front seats.
The seat springs appear to be intact with sagging. The horsehair padding is still present and not disintegrating with age and use. The seats will directly bolt into any W111 or W112 coupe or cabriolet using the existing hardware. Hardware is not included with the seats.
This set of MB-Tex Red Safari Seats is located in Matthews, North Carolina by a private seller, shows in overall good condition, and were removed from a 1962 220SE Coupe. Pick-up in person can be arranged or shipping at the buyer's expense.
With W111 and W112 coupes being made in low production numbers, artifacts like this do not pop up often for sale. Not only were these cars incredibly expensive when new, their rising prices today have sparked a renewed interest in rare options such as these “Safari Seats”. Seats are the one item you interact with constantly when driving your car, so having factory Mercedes-Benz bucket seats would be a worthwhile addition to an existing car or to add to a vehicle that was originally optioned with them but no longer retain them. These are like having Recaros in your Sportline W201 or W124 or pre-merge AMG but back in the early 1960s. These would be a great addition to any vintage Mercedes-Benz.
