This 1996 Mercedes-Benz S320 LWB was purchased new through Viti Mercedes-Benz of Tiverton, Rhode Island and remained in the care of the first and only owner until the current seller possessed the vehicle six months ago with the intention of assisting in the sale. Finished in rare Moonstone Gray Metallic (721) over Gray Leather (268), power is provided by a 3.2-liter DOHC inline-six mated to a five-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels with an odometer showing just over 52k miles from new with the current owner adding 2k miles. Factory equipment includes an electric sliding sunroof, central locking, power mirrors, multi-contour heated power front seats with memory, cruise control, power adjustable steering column, automatic dual-zone climate control, headlamp washers, soft close doors, and dual pane glass. The selling party reports $6,000 worth of service was performed in preparation for the sale including a new head gasket, valve cover, spark plugs, drive belts, cooling system work, fuel system work, new vacuum lines, a new battery, and all fluids. This S320 LWB is now offered for sale by the selling party with the original tool kit, spare wheel, manufacturer’s literature, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Rhode Island title.
The exterior is finished in Moonstone Gray Metallic (721) and features paint matched lower body cladding separated by a streak of chrome body trim. Exterior features include a power tilt/sliding glass sunroof, auto dipping rear view mirrors when engaged in reverse, heated headlight washers with wiper arms, and dual paned glass throughout. This S320 is a rare long wheelbase variant with an added four inches of length in the rear floorpans for the rear occupants, not commonly seen on the six cylinder variants. The Carfax report shows a history free from accidents or damage reported. The seller notes only the hood had been repainted in the past.
The factory Astral Silver 15” 8-hole alloy wheels are fitted with Continental TrueContact Tour 54 tires that were installed in October of 2025. The factory spare is mounted in the rear along with the original tool kit with the trunk also having a soft close function. This W140 comes equipped with Anti-Slip Regulation which can be toggled in the center console.
The cabin is trimmed in Gray Leather (268) with matching gray cloth headliner, Lloyds Floormats, and gray carpets while Burl Walnut wood trim lines the center console, dashboard and door panels. The veneer shows no cracking and no UV damage as the wood is still dark in color. Both front seats are heated and offer power adjustability along with multi-contour adjustments with three-position memory for the driver and passenger. Interior appointments include an electrically-telescoping steering column, power interior rear view mirror, cruise control, mobile telephone in the armrest, automatic climate control, and dual pane glass. The seller notes all interior features to function as intended including air conditioning and heat. Rear reading lights are built into the C-pillars and with the long wheelbase, rear passengers get to enjoy an extra four inches of leg room. The head rests can be lowered by the driver through a switch on the center console.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel fronts VDO instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature and oil pressure. A digital outside temperature sensor is mounted centrally at the bottom of the cluster. The six-digit odometer currently shows just over 52k miles from new.
This S320 is powered by a DOHC 3.2-liter M104 inline-six with variable valve timing which is factory rated for 217 horsepower and 229 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 722.5 five-speed automatic transmission. This W140 has been maintained by Viti Mercedes-Benz since new. In 2002, the dealer fixed the evaporator core and did a full A/C service on the car. The selling party reports $6,000 worth of service was performed in preparation for the sale including a new head gasket, valve cover, spark plugs, drive belts, a new thermostat, a new fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel hoses, and clamps, new vacuum lines, new front rotors and pads, new front coil springs and sway bar links, a new battery, and all fluids.
This one owner car has been maintained at the same dealer it was purchased at by the original owner. This S320 LWB is now offered for sale by the selling party with the original tool kit, spare wheel, manufacturer’s literature, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Rhode Island title.
A long wheelbase S320 is indeed a rare thing on its own. But let’s add an uncommon color on top, paired with super low miles, dealership service history, one owner from new, and you have an S-Class that is incredibly hard to replicate. A lot of people like the 5.0-liter M119 cars making the S320 the thinking man’s W140. Nothing gets us riled up more than an unknown and undervalued Mercedes-Benz. The internet has basically left no stone unturned when it comes to future collectables as everyone is hunting for the next big thing. With clean S500s hitting $40k now, a long wheelbase W140 with the fabulous M104 provides 95% of the experience at a much lower entry price. There’s a few things you need to check on a W140: the big ticket item being the evaporator core. Mercedes-Benz had a mistake in the design where they used aluminum and copper in its construction. Mixed with the condensation of cooling cycles, the water accelerated galvanic corrosion of the evaporator core and pop… you smell freon through your center vents and your A/C goes warm. Be prepared to pay a dealer 20 hours of labor plus parts and the dashboard has to be removed. This W140 had that massive issue solved that plagued all W140s. While the maintenance, condition, and configuration is stellar, the color is beautiful and unbelievably rare. If you’re in the market for a W140 and the M104 doesn’t bother you (they are plenty quick with this engine and will cruise past 135 MPH – trust us, we’ve done it in ours), you should seriously consider buying this one. Clean W140s are getting harder and harder to find as classic Mercedes-Benz labor rates are on a rise and not everyone can afford to maintain them the way they should.
