Very cool, and seems well built. Had an '86 300TE and a '95 E320 wagon; both hit 300,000 miles and were sold to family members. The '86 would do almost 140 mph, but the '95 was governed. Wish I had done this transmission swap to the '95. Enjoy!
I went on the press trip to Portugal when the new SL was introduced to U.S. journalists, and this was my favorite model to drive. The manual transmission added greatly to the driver's involvement with the car and the road. Even with the V8, the automatic felt dull, lifeless. Here's your chance to get not only a collector's item but a truly fun car to drive.
Not an easy book to find. Too bad it's not in English. Luckily, I got an English edition when they were new.
I'm late to the game here, but when they were new, I got to drive one as a press car in Europe and absolutely fell in love with it. Great performance, nimble, distinctive, useful--it had it all. Wish they had come to the U.S. Love my E55 wagon, but this would probably have been even better.
