This 1970 Mercedes-Benz 300SEL 6.3 is finished in Silver Gray Metallic (180) over Blue leather and powered by a 6.3-liter M100 V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Features include fully functional self-leveling suspension, factory optioned air conditioning, power windows, automatic antenna, and a Becker Mexico head unit. This 300SEL 6.3 now shows 88,824 miles. Within the last year, the car underwent a comprehensive mechanical restoration including new brake booster, all new brake calipers, pads, hoses, new master cylinder, new gas tank, all air suspension control valves rebuilt, all new air suspension bags, A/C refresh, new tires, and a tune up by a trusted independent Mercedes-Benz shop. This W109 is now offered with some records, factory owner’s manual, and a clean Rhode Island title under the selling dealer’s name.
The car is painted in Silver Gray Metallic (180) and received a recent repaint in the factory color. Features include US-spec bumpers and lighting, an automatic antenna, self-leveling air suspension, and two side mirrors. All body panels are original and there is zero rust or corrosion present. Original polished twin tailpipe covers sleeves cover the original exhaust pipes. There is minor pitting on some of the door handles. The seller notes the paint to show without flaws or imperfections.
Factory 14″ steel wheels wear paint matched wheel covers and General Altima RT tires measuring 205/70 on all four corners. The W109 came with self-level air suspension which has been serviced including four new air bags and rebuilt control valves. Tucked behind the wheels are original disc brakes which had the following services performed:
The cabin is upholstered in Blue leather with matching Blue carpets throughout trimmed in leather piping. Ebony Macassar wood traces the interior cabin and adorns the dashboard, windshield sill, door cards, and window trim on all four doors. Additional features include a functional original quartz movement clock in the dashboard, factory optioned air conditioning, four power windows, a Becker Mexico head unit, and a locking glove box. Leather trimmed carpets can be seen throughout and there are rear ashtrays on each of the doors of this long wheelbase W109. The factory optioned climate control has recently been updated to R134a and operates as new. There is one minor split on the dashboard near the instrument cluster.
The original black-rim steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and a round multi-gauge showing gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. Additional features include functional warning lights for the brake, low fuel, alternator, and self-leveling suspension. The five digit odometer now shows 88,824 miles.
The 6.3-liter M100 V8 was factory rated at 247 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque when new, making it the fastest production sedan of the era with a top speed of 137-mph. The 6.3 powerplant is mated to a four-speed automatic transmission that shifts smoothly. This example has received a healthy amount of work including a new fuel tank, shift bushings, complete tune up, and all new fluids.
This 1970 300SEL 6.3 is now offered with recent records, factory owner’s manual and pouch, original spare wheel, and a clean Rhode Island title.
The seller has included the following videos:
The 300SEL 6.3 began life as a W111 250SE coupe stuffed with a M100 limo engine paired with a bus derived ZF manual transmission built after hours by Erich Waxenberger. We’re lucky Rudolf Ulenhaut was Waxenberger’s boss who heard Erich ripping down the road in the prototype W111. Mercedes-Benz was then focusing on stodgy sedans and coach built two-doors for the ultra wealthy as they stepped down from motorsport after the catastrophic 1955 Le Mans crash. But that didn’t stop the engineers’ love of speed. Ulenhaut, father of the 300 SLR and 300SL and other motorsport derived cars, wanted this car put into production after caning it up and down the road. And Voila! The M100 from the limousine engine was transplanted into the then S-Class sedan making what Road & Track called “merely the greatest sedan in the world.” This example we have up for auction sports good paint, superb wood, good upholstery, and recent expensive suspension services by a shop that knew what they were doing. All the big ticket items have been taken care of for the next owner. The Silver Gray paint is timeless and the blue interior plays off of the cool toned metallic exterior. These cars are still quick by today’s standard with engineering that provides intellectual satisfaction when behind the wheel.

It arrives Monday. I’m so excited. This is such a beautiful car. It’s the right one.
Incidentally, there is a kit available to install a Sanden AC compressor in place of the original York- uses less hp, cools better, and is quieter. Bud's Benz has it.
A serious deal, if you ask me, with so much of the heavy lifting done. Congratulations on acquiring a legend.
Congratulations, a great car at a great price!

They made about seven thousand of these, perhaps not that many. (I don't know how many are left, but the later cars are the ones to have.) The tinworm has taken many of them. If you've thought about acquiring one, do it here and now. They aren't making them, they are a fortune to restore, and parts will continue to get pricier. This looks like a lovely example. The quality of these automobiles is beautiful, the performance and styling legendary. If you are a Mercedes aficionado, driving a 6.3 is an experience you ought not to miss. (and, yes, I have one, or I'd be in this.) GLWA, hope it does very well; it deserves to.
Coming down to the wire. Don’t miss out on a lovely classic!

Good morning all, Today is the day for serious buyers to pay attention. Don’t miss out on one of the nicest examples of this rare Mercedes Benz performance luxury sedan!
The executor of the estate was unable to document how many previous owners this 6.3 had. The colors are the original ones as documented by factory data plate and by the original Mercedes generated build card. Thank you for your interest.
Was the estate the original owner? If not how many owners? Is the paint the original color?
