This 1997 Mercedes-Benz SL74 RENNtech was sold new in September of 1996 as an SL600 before receiving a 7.4-liter conversion by RENNtech including intake and exhaust cams, porting and polishing, a RENNtech exhaust, suspension, and wheels. Finished in Black (040) over a two-tone Gray Leather interior, power is provided by a 7.4-liter M120 V12 engine paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes a power soft top with a paint-matched removable hardtop, ADS adaptive damping suspension, heated power adjustable front seats and a Bose 6-speaker audio system. Service records and registration documentation are included with recent service including a new ADS module and remanufactured hydraulic top cylinders. This RENNtech SL74 is now offered for sale in Houston, Texas showing just 33k miles with the original window sticker, original manufacturer’s literature, first aid kit, tool kit, both keys, a clean Carfax and a clean Montana title.
The exterior is finished in Black (040) with a black power soft top and paint-matched removable hardtop. Service receipts from 2021 show that the top hydraulic cylinders were replaced with remanufactured units. Exterior features include xenon headlights, a vented hood, V12 badging on the front fenders, SL74 and RENNtech badges on the trunk lid and RENNtech exhaust tips. The exterior is in good condition with no rust or body damage present and paintwork is believed to be all original with the exception of rock chip remediation on the front bumper/fenders.
Staggered 18” multi-piece OZ Racing wheels wear Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires measuring 245/40 front and 275/35 rear with RENNtech badges. The black-painted calipers show RENNtech lettering and bite down on slotted two-piece rotors at the front and drilled rotors at the rear. This SL74 also includes RENNtech rear suspension links and retains the factory Adaptive Damping Suspension with comfort and sport modes. The ADS control unit was recently replaced in 2021.
The cabin is finished with two-tone Gray Leather upholstery and Burl Walnut wood trim. The leather upholstery extends to the door panels and the dashboard with top-stitching. Black carpeting is accompanied by black floor mats with RENNtech embroidery. The wood trim appears in good condition with no signs of cracking or discoloration and the RENNtech logo also appears on the wood shift knob. The seller notes that the steering wheel and driver’s seat leather show minor signs of wear. Interior equipment includes heated and power adjustable seats with memory, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 6-speaker Bose sound system with the original Becker radio and an automatic roll hoop.
The steering wheel is wrapped in matching two-tone leather with wood trim and fronts a 160-mph speedometer along with a 7k-rpm tachometer and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature and oil pressure. The digital odometer reads 33k miles with just 500 miles added by the current owner in the past year. The steering column is power adjustable and tied to the driver-side memory positions.
This R129 features a 7.4-liter M120 V12 engine which was modified by RENNtech receiving intake and exhaust cams, a ported and polished head and a RENNtech stainless exhaust with a resonator bypass. RENNtech reports that these modifications result in an output of 575 horsepower and 594 lb-ft of torque which is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission.
This SL74 comes with recent service history along with extensive registration documents showing linear mileage reports. The Carfax is clean with no accidents or damage reports and shows regular service visits throughout its history. Documentation from a 2004 sale at RM Sotheby’s in Monterey has also been scanned and included in the photo gallery. This 1997 RennTech SL74 is now offered with original manufacturer’s literature, first aid kit, tool kit, window sticker, both keys, a clean Carfax and a clean Montana title.
A walk-around and driving video has been included by the seller.
RENNtech has built its reputation for quality craftsmanship and unmatched technical know-how through years of creating some of the most extreme Mercedes-Benz cars to ever hit the road. The SL74 starts life as an SL600 with a 6.0-liter M120 before RENNtech strips it apart and bores the cylinders to 91mm and increases the stroke creating 7.4-liters of displacement. In combination with a ported and polished head and custom camshafts, power is increased to 575 horsepower with nearly 600 lb-ft of torque. Complimenting the healthy increase in power is larger wheels, brakes and upgraded suspension. Get inside the interior and you are greeted by a two-tone leather interior which extends across the dash, doors and steering wheel with white top-stitching while a dark Burl Walnut wood trim provides a stark visual contrast. This SL74 represents the absolute best in aftermarket Mercedes tuning in the 1990s and it’s not often that one pops up for sale. But make no mistake, RENNtech is not your average aftermarket Mercedes tuning company. RENNtech was founded by and still ran by Hartmut Feyhl who headed up AMG North America back in the 80's. Not only did he assemble the legendary Westmont AMG Hammers, he felt the freedom of tuning spirit that pre-merger AMG had created should live on, even after the merger with Mercedes-Benz. And we're extremely thankful he did because incredible builds such as this R129 are the result. This SL74 has been exceptionally well cared for and shows low mileage with recent documented service. For any enthusiast looking for a unique piece of Mercedes tuning history, this example certainly won’t disappoint!

Happy Hump Day! We are very honored to present this stunning and rare creation from the brilliant minds at RENNtech. This is one of the very few SL74s made, it truly is unbelievable to experience the way this car puts down power. Built in the 90s, this SL still competes with modern sports cars of today thanks to its insane horsepower and torque numbers after RENNtech's touch, while still being a delightful cruiser that is calm and collected as well. This is the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde of the R129 platform and is bound to excite its next owner.
Purchased 1 year ago on BaT... driven less than 500 miles! https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1997-renntech-sl74/
Gosh when are you going to have some nice cars on here... wow
