This 1995 Mercedes-Benz E36 AMG began life as a German-market example and shows the 957 AMG Engineering code on the datacard indicating the car was converted by AMG when new. The car was then sent to BRABUS for a full 6.0 conversion with accompanying invoices from 1995. The BRABUS conversion includes a 6.0L M119 engine build, 300km/h gauge cluster, shift knob, floor mats, removable hardtop, and BRABUS monoblock wheels. Finished in Azurite Blue Metallic (366) over Grey Leather (268), the car features its original gen 2 AMG body kit. The sale includes original BRABUS invoices from conversion totalling over 200k German Deutsche Marks (DEM) in 1995, on top of the cost of the new E36. Recent service includes a complete transmission overhaul, new H&R springs, a new exhuast system, two new catalytic converters, ignition cables, and a new engine wiring harness. Now showing 107,670 kilometers (~67k miles), this documented E36 6.0L BRABUS is now offered for sale in Germany with 65,000 Euros worth of service records, original BRABUS invoices, original Mercedes sales order, 5 infrared keys, hardtop lift, and a clean German title. The seller is able to ship with international shipping as needed.
The body is finished in Azurite Blue Metallic (366) and features matching painted trim with an authentic Gen 2 AMG body kit consisting of both front and rear bumpers, and side skirts. The body kit was fitted by AMG when new as part of the E36 conversion as noted by the original sales order and 957 code on the datacard. Exterior equipment includes original Euro glass headlights, a power adjustable passenger-side mirror, folding blue soft top, and a removable paint-matched hardtop. The hardtop is made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic with an original Mercedes-Benz C124 rear window and control unit. A hardtop lift is also included. The seller reports the front fenders and bumpers were previously repainted. The paint quality is reportedly in excellent condition with no signs of fading.
Fitted to the car are authentic multi-piece 18" BRABUS Monoblock wheels which come wrapped in a set of Pirelli P-Zero tires measuring 225/40 front and 245/35 rear. Each wheel shows original BRABUS stamps and come with period correct center caps. The car is fitted with new H&R springs and upgraded brakes from a R129 SL600 with 345mm front and 300mm rear disc brakes.
The four-spoke AMG steering wheel features leather and wood around the rim with AMG embossed on the spokes. The BRABUS gauge cluster features a 300 kph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature and oil pressure. The six-digit mechanical odometer currently shows 107,670km (~67k miles) from new.
The car originally came equipped with an AMG-tuned 3.6L engine as an authentic E36 conversion when new. The car was then sent to BRABUS for further upgrades which included a 6.0L M119 engine. BRABUS took an original E50 AMG M119 engine and bored it to 6.0L with a solid lifter conversion as well as headers. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. Original BRABUS invoices from the conversion performed in 1995 denote the 6.0L engine upgrade and BRABUS engine plates are found in the engine bay along with a unique BRABUS VIN plate which was assigned to the car reading W09124V6032B16001. Power is estimated to be 408 horsepower. The cost of the BRABUS conversion was nearly 200k Deutsche Marks (DEM) plus a 15% VAT tax in 1995. Service records are included with the car totalling 65,000 Euros.
Recent service includes new H&R springs, a new exhuast system, two new catalytic converters, ignition cables, and a new engine wiring harness. A complete transmission overhaul was performed in May 2023 totalling nearly 7k Euros with a receipt provided in the gallery.
A video of the car has been provided by the seller below.
Imagine the year is 1995, you are a successful entrepreneur, own a large supermarket chain, and are fulfilling a life-long dream. You have just ordered a brand-new Mercedes-Benz E36 AMG Cabriolet in Azurite Blue with Grey leather and very generous equipment as a convertible. Surely the AMG body upgrades and beefed up 3.6L engine denoted on by the 957 AMG Engineering code on the datacard will satisfy your hearts desire. You receive your dream car and soon realize that the 272 hp is leaving something to be desired. While a reported 68 E36 AMG cabriolets were built worldwide, and the 272 hp was categorized in a higher league in 1995, you do what any enthusiast with an unlimited budget in pursuit of perfection would do: call BRABUS. After some conversation, it quickly became clear there was no way around a V8 M119 engine if performance was to increase significantly. The 320 hp of the M119 E50 engine also needed to be optimized. The answer led to a complete rebuild using body shell parts from the 124036 (E500) and an M119 engine enlarged to 6.0 liters and 408 hp. The technical conversion included the beautiful three-piece BRABUS Monoblock III rims in 18”, suspension and brake upgrades, the BRABUS 300km/h speedometer, the Tempmatic oil temperature display (with switch in the center console), the wood gearshift and floor mats. The look was to remain discreet, and the "base" vehicle E36 AMG was ordered with a “no nameplate” so that the large engine would remain an understatement. In addition to the cost of the E36 AMG totalling 162k Deutsche Marks (DEM), the cost of the BRABUS conversion was nearly 200k Deutsche Marks (DEM) plus a 15% VAT tax. In total, this build would cost a staggering 390k Deutsche Marks (DEM) in 1995.
Now we realize that this was not just a dream, but a reality. This crazy idea resulted in the only A124 convertible ever built by BRABUS with an M119 V8 engine and 6.0L displacement. The E36 AMG as a convertible was already very rare with 68 units and now we are talking about an absolute one-off! However, it was very important to the first owner that the regular maintenance work could be carried out at any Mercedes workshop. For this reason, the standard brake system of the R129 SL600 was fitted with large brake disks (345mm front, 300mm rear). The entire concept is ingeniously executed. BRABUS installed the battery at the rear left and used all the wiring harnesses and control units from the W124 E500 with adaptation to the 6.0L engine. The ASR system works perfectly, and the top speed is limited to a reported 270 km/h. You open the door, sit down at the wooden/leather AMG steering wheel, the belt extender guides the seatbelt over your shoulder, you start the engine and an indescribable startup sound emanates from the exhaust followed by a deep V8 bubbling at idle. A slight push of the accelerator and the torque pushes you into the seat while the transmission shifts through the gears as smooth as butter. This is what perfection and passion feel like. BRABUS absolutely nailed it with this one-off build. This 1 of 1 BRABUS A124 is now offered for the first time publicly with everything a true collector requires.

@ralfi 1. der Einkaufspreis ist nicht richtig. 2. Welche VINs? Fotos? 4. Der Wagen kostete 59900€ in 2012, was überhaupt keine Rolle spielt.

Can't wait to see how and where this beauty ends up. Selfishly hope it ends up in the USA, to be seen at some public event. Best wishes for both seller, who took care of an amazing bit of MB history, and the lucky buyer.
E36 AMG convertible is unique as is - only 68 of them were produced with 957 option code. And this one became even more special after Brabus conversion - real 1 of 1. Such cars could be named Brabus masterpiece.
Need popcorn :) Love everything about this car My dream garage would be one each of this body style: Sedan (have the 400E) Coupe Wagon Convertible :) Good luck to all

I would have been very happy to talk to you about my passion on an equal footing. The car came up in 2012 and 2024. 2024 it was online for a half day with 5 serious buyers, but the owner decided to sell me his car, because he knows me since 2016 (technoclassica motorshow in Essen). It's a shame how you presume to judge my life and me. I don't need quick deals, I've been living my passion for 15 years. AMG, Brabus and rare Mercedes models have touched my heart for as long as I can remember. We both know exactly what you meant with your first comment. I wish you all the good things that money can't buy. Best regards, Tino
@Herr_Flick please write again why AMG "never" put a M119 into the A124. Your comment started with "haha". Yes, I am born in Germany, I live in Germany and I am degreed engineer thanks to Germany, but I have enough of the negative vibes and half-truth stated as facts in Germany. Everything that starts with "haha" is good? Google my name, find out my number, then you can call me, tell me the name of the senior technician, explain me exactly why an A124 and M119 can't or couldn't be combined and then we meet for a test drive.
@refusedname i dont want to comment anything on this auction anymore! All information you can find on internet, check the forums. Im out.
Dear @redneck24 my intention was not to "shit" on the car, I don't know how you and the seller could have concluded that?! I only stated the facts and none of my statements are lies or harmful info about the car! Information on how much that car was sold for 10 years ago and how much it was sold for a few months ago is available to everyone on internet! I deleted what I wrote at the seller's request because I don't want to drag on the messages and especially I don't want to have a negative effect on the auction as the seller thought. I just stated the FACTS! The only thing that can be questioned is whether it is true what the AMG technician told us, and I am telling you that it was said as I had written and that is why there was never production of such a car, whether you will believe me or not is entirely up to you. The seller insinuates in his last comment that I made it up. I did not write anywhere that the car is not good, nor was it my intention. And I blame @Tino for his derogatory comment about Germans, are we Germans fools or idiots? And where are you from? I see that you live and work in Germany and you write that such a comment can only come from a German! What comment? Write what I falsely wrote...except for the information I didn't know that AMG installed a V8 in a convertible for the Sultan of Brunei. I deleted the comment because seller ask me, but the last comment from the seller is wrong because I just stated the facts I was familiar with, nothing more. And I think that the others have the right to know these facts, now I'm sorry that I deleted the comment. If we cant comment on the car than comments should be forbiden! I wish you a happy sale!
@tino I think that no matter how the car drives collectors will collect, most collectors don't drive most of their cars anyway.
@Redneck24 how would you react if someone who never drove your car is speaking half-truths from an AMG meeting with a "senior technician". Brabus did a lot of things AMG never did. W124 V12, W204 V12 etc. You can ask guys like Bernard Marijanovic how good the W124 7.3S holds its temperature even in the summer with traffic jam. I hate the negativity of germans and it wasn't even true about the price. This car has a weight of 1950Kg, which is 60Kg more than a regular SL60 AMG has. You can see that there is a lot of reinforcements invested for the stiffness and 408HP makes a big difference compared to 272HP. I drove the car with opened top, we parked it half on the sidewalk to check how good the doors open or close. When someone writes half-truths and thinks he is a God of information I have enough. All around the discussion boards you can find tons of opinions from people who never owned or even drove the cars they talk about. Saying that AMG never built an A124 with M119 is not true. Even this discussion here does only one thing, it puts negativity about me and my car. If someone wants to know how it drives, sent an experienced mechanic or inspector to me! Everything can be arranged. I drove a few hundred kilometers with the car and I checked it myself because of the big amount of money we paid for it. Did he test drive my car? Did the previous owner told him the car doesn't drive well? Do you think a multi millionaire in the 90ies (almost billionaire) would pay 390000DM for a car and keep it 15 years, if it drives bad or makes squeeze noises? Do you think it? Brabus did high-end conversions. Try to look how AMG put the M117/9 engine into the W126 (with M119 heads) and check the surfaces around the downpipes. This A124 conversion is An A++ body work! An original E500 front wall, transmission tunnel and crossbar is used! The ECUs are placed into the E500 housing with active cooler and original M119 wiring harness. They used the SL600 brakes and discs in order to get spare parts easily for the services at each Mercedes Dealer. If someone wants to know more about the car, he or she can ask me and not someone who told to someone who thinks he knows something... cheers
@refusedname while i was downloading pics of this car for my album i have seen conversation between @herr_flick and the seller, but can see that herr_flick is not answering now. I don't think you will get an answer from Herr_flick because he put a description of why AMG didn't put a V8 in the convertible and he put the price for how much the car was sold for a few months ago in Europe. The seller reacted quite briskly to that post and kindly asked Herr Flick to remove it. So then Herr Flick reduced his long post to two sentences. I don't know why the seller would react like that, as if the information about when it was sold and where it was sold cannot be found on the Internet, Facebook or forums. The internet remembers everything! The seller probably thought that herr_flick was shitting about the car. It's a shame that the car is not a coupe because of all the w124 versions, the coupe drives best, that would be great because the cabriolet is more for easy cruising than fast driving. We will see how this auction goes. @refusedname i agree with your point about cars from the Sultan of Brunei. Sultan has all kinds of modifications, if you had enough money AMG and Brabus would do whatever you wanted, they would probably install an electric drive even back in the nineties if you paid enough. You need to drive these cars to know what they are like. But again, on the other hand, the seller says that the car drives great, so there is no reason not to trust him...maybe driving video would help.
$55,000 bid placed by @RGant
@refusedname but I drove this Brabus 6.0 several 100 Kilometers and I can say, that they reinforced everything, that it has excellent stiffness and weight distribution. Using original E500 front parts the engine moved down and closer to the front window. The battery in the trunk and the higher weight of the differential are improving the weight distribution. The german title shows up a weight (with driver and full gas tank) of 1950Kg, which is just 60Kg more than a SL60 AMG has. Bringing this together you can be pretty sure that they did their job and the car drives 270kph!
@Tino, thank you for your reply. I would still like to hear from @Herr_Flick what senior AMG tech said about AMG not wanting to install V8 engines into A124 chassis. Your reference to Sultan Of Brunei collection is not very accurate as those cars are never driven.
@refusedname it's the same question why Mercedes didn't built a 500E wagon? The production number would be too low. AMG did cars like this. There are S140 wagons, E60 AMG convertibles and S124 E60 AMG wagons. They also have A140 convertible based on C140 co-worked with Karmann in Osnabrück (where I live). Most of these cars went to Brunei. Here you can see a very interesting video about the collection of the Sheikh: https://youtu.be/dNhXo1uwyco?si=oG6iNgtplCs5i6DV BTW Brabus built also a well running Brabus 6.9 W124 V12 with M120 based on an E500. They also built a Brabus 7.3S based on W124 E500, what AMG never did. Another crazy cool car is the Brabus 6.5 based on R170 SLK. Imagine 450HP in a SLK, which has a super short wheel base. Brabus nailed it in the 90ies!
@Herr_Flick, can you share why MB never built A124 with M119? Thank you

@Tino I have had mine for about 4 or 5 years now. Already at 180,000 miles.
@luckytruck I owned a 400E in 2007 for a few years. I really regret having sold it. The M119 is my all time favorite V8. I am happy that I still own my 1991 500E since 2011! W124 are awesome anyway.

Approximately 50% of billionaires in the world are between the age of 50-70 years old. I wonder how many of them would be interested in owning this very period cool and rare Iconic German muscle car? I know if I were in that exclusive club, this would be a MUST HAVE item on my bucket list, and I would dig very deep into my pockets to own it. This will be a very interesting auction to watch @Tino Cheers my friend !!! Dean
Nice car! Amazing.
Wow😁
@Herr_Flick AMG built two E60 AMG convertible for the Sheikh of Brunei. There is a YouTube video where can see it and yes, Brabus did a great job.
I saw that car live several years ago at an AMG meeting, where there was also a senior technician from AMG who explained to us why AMG never installed a V8 in a cabriolet. Nice job brabus!
AMazinG! Eine Traumwagen!
@edand it is a big story around it. The code 957 is factory ordered. Receiving his E36 AMG he noticed that the 272HP weren't enough, so he decided to go to Brabus for a big upgrade with absolute perfection. Everytime a key battery was empty he bought a whole key. I am very impressed about its detailed history and invoices.
@R129hoarder I will support him or her with a closed transport to Bremerhaven (our next port) and the export declaration.
@floman the AMG conversion was a factory order (no pre merger). Code 957! When he received his car, he noticed that the 272HP weren't enough. Crazy story
@HowardM thank you. It is absolutely awesome what Brabus created. The perfection of their work is undescribable. The body has perfect stiffness, there are no squeezy noices or anything else. It is impressive how expensive it was in 1995. You could have bought a S600L and SL600 or two Ferrari F355 with money left for something else. Unbelievable!
Though I'm a bit confused as to why a car would be sent to AMG and *then* Brabus (why not just go straight to Brabus?), this car looks amazing. What a unique piece of Mercedes tuning history. I'm also amused to read that it comes with five keys. Having had one of my two keys fail recently, I feel that five is the correct number of keys to have. ;) But at over $200 each, that's a thousand dollars just in keys..!
This is absolutely FANTASTIC. Someone please bring this to the states!! (and whatever @motorsports said)

All I can say is....WOW. These cars are pretty sweet with the 3.2 v6, never mind an example also "touched" by AMG, and then Brabus. Just, WOW.
Let me the first to comment on how absolutely incredible this car is. My mind is blown at how crazy this is. As if the original E36 AMG cab wasn't special enough... I guess for someone it wasn't and seeing this, I can't really blame them. Will be following this one!
