I am jumping in here because I sold this car to Johan. I believed the engine to be stock, but pulled harder than any other w126 5.0 motor car I have owned. I sold it to him as rust free, which I truly believed it to be, but Johan's body guy did find some minimal rust in the trunk which I believe they corrected. The car was sold to Johan with the original AMG wheels, side skirts and rear AMG bumper (not the one currently on the car). It did not have an AMG front lip. I do not know why. The car was purchased from someone who was given it by his unlce in who I believe lived in California when he bought this car, and then moved to Arizona, which explains why the car had no rust but paint faded on top. I have had too many MB cars for a long time and somehow encountered Johan, and he was only interested in rust free cars. We started the deal with this car, and added a 199 (blue black) 1985 500sl which I believe he said he gave to his mechanic for the work he did on all his other cars. I don't know anything about these cars after they left the US, but it is clear that Johan has put a LOT of work into them. I also know that the story of the white r107 500sl AMG, previously owned by a friend of mine here in the US who sold the car to someone in Europe who apparently did some terrible work on that car before selling it to Johan. Johan was furious about the purchase, and we all felt bad for him. I think that is the car that had the AMG cams they reproduced. I believe I also supplied the AMG penta wheels for that white 500sl. I know the paint job was not good when I sold them to the US owner of that car, but I believe my friend had them refinished after I sold them to him because the clearcoat had gone yellow. The wheels were not the complaint about that car as I understand it. I really know nothing of that car first hand, but it sure seems like the person here is pretty frustrated with that car too, just like Johan was. If I was to ask one question, it would be about the dyno video. I will admit that I don't know or understand dyno tests well. Why does the HP only reach 128 hp? That car was the strongest running w126 I ever owned, running 0-60 faster than the MB claim when I owned it. Did the engine work not make the engine more powerful? Or am I missing something in those dyno tests? Thanks, mknmike aka fonzi from benzworld
Congrats on the sale. Want to talk about that dual mass flywheel now? Thanks! mknMike
Oh. How is the first gear take off with the original 2.65 diff? Or was that swapped. RPMs must be real low at highway speeds. Right? Someone had recommended maybe getting a higher diff ratio (and then speedometer too) from a 260e. I haven’t grabbed one of those (yet). If it’s plenty quick and highway revs are ok in OD, than I’d just keep the stock diff for simplicity.
@Stan_Lution Thank you. Do you still have the dual mass? For sale? I don’t use instagram much, but am @mercwheels
I wonder what the transmission, flywheel and drive shaft came from. I’ve got a 190e 5-speed sitting on the passenger floor of my white w palomino 1992 300te. I think I’d have to take the flywheel from my 1986 300sel 5-speed to be able to put the package together with the 260e drive shaft and w201 pedals. There’s always more work than expected. So kudos to the seller for making one of my dreams happen.
