When was the last time someone found an ML55 this clean with such a rare color? Wow... If I had space....
@Richthat says a lot, thank you!
I may have missed it, but has the wiring harness been inspected / or replaced? This falls within the year for the biodegradable wiring harnesses.
Congratulations @TeutonicTravels
@BabyBenzFanPerhaps! This is my only car I've owned that was not original - and I enjoyed having the subtle updates. My rule of thumb is as long as it is reversible I can enjoy it, whereas botching everything up definitely diminishes value. All of the Sportline trim is OEM and rare for a W201. All of that trim is also very expensive to source. The cassette holder was replaced with an OEM delete compartment for European models which I not only found to be more aesthetically pleasing, but also more useful. If I were to have kept the car longer, I would have probably installed a double din McIntosh head unit with the sound voltage meter. You could always go back to the original radio, but having modern speakers without cutting anything in my opinion is huge win. All of this of course will be in the hands of the new owner. I always saw the W201 as the potential tuner of the Mercedes world since there were so many kits available for them, the Cossie stuff, and even the modern engine swaps that people do to these. They have also been in the public eye in pop culture recently, and a Evo II will be the face of the Need for Speed video game. I admit I am a young guy with an old soul, but this car made me feel more youthful. There is my two cents on the matter :) Thank you for the kind words about my car!
A124 cabriolets have always been rare cars... to have the low milage and the common problems already tended to on this car makes it appealing... so does the fact that it is not smoke silver.
@DonksterDCmotorwerks in Alpharetta GA rebuilds them
Wiring Harness - for reference they stopped with the biodegradable engine harnesses on W140s late in (Oct / Nov maybe) of 1995. Sure there is probably the odd partsbin part installed on a later car, but the main biodegradable engine upper, lower, and body harnesses are not compatible with a 1996 model, due to the layout of the computers and their connectors. I went through an entire harness overhaul on my 1995 S600 which was indeed affected. I purchased a 96 wiring harness made in 11/95 which was in perfect order. It didn't fit since it was the newer version.
Someone needs to buy this car, Monogram their initials in the same color as the pinstripe, and move to Palm Beach. Such a gorgeous (and rare) color combination. You never see these C140's on the road. The way they compose themselves and stand proud amongst modern cars is a beauty in itself. And once you try to close the door, you will quickly understand why the W140 engineered soft close functions. GLWTA, someone will be very lucky and pleased with this car. Not to mention the Monoblocks...
You buy a gently used CPO E63, you leave the dealer lot and lose another 10k in value. You buy this car with less miles than that of the CPO car... and watch your piece of history go up in value. These early 00s RENNtech cars are glorious.
@snelanThank you for the input! I appreciate it.
This seems like a really nice specimen. I concur the painted center caps are an excellent pairing to these early cars. Love that it still does not have catalytic converters as well. Personally I always liked the way the US bumpers looked on these... or at least I was never offended by the design like the europeans are!
@BabyBenzFan W201 owners unite! It is truly an issue that never really bothered me and seemed to function accurately in the several thousand miles I put on the car this summer. Luckily, there are a lot of maintenance items that are commonly neglected on these cars that have been tended to on this one. I think the subtle modifications and all original paint on this specimen make for a more youthful example of just how great these baby benzes are.
@TeutonicTravelsThe fuel gauge works with precision. I have calculated fuel consumption, range, and how much fuel I am refueling and came to the conclusion that the fluttering is just a quirk I would live with. I have a theory it has to do with the subwoofer, since it tends to move to the beat of music... lol (kind of like a sound voltage meter I didn't ask for). The carbon I am unsure of, but the exhaust does not sound like it is leaking. The car has had considerable suspension work done and I consider the car to handle very well amongst the 190s that I have driven. Come test drive it if you are local.
@roup1yes I have all recent receipts for the work done. Just about $14,000 worth of maintenance, parts, and labor was put into this car before I acquired it.
I've seen this car in person at the local MBCA cars and coffee... so cool to see one an M103 R107 with the infamous badge on the back. Whoever buys it should be very pleased with their purchase. It seems to be very well documented. I've seen a few 1986 300SL's appear for sale here and there... but I have never seen a 1988 become available. I would imagine not too many were built in their final years. GLWTA
@Herbie, unfortunately I do not have the original radio. They shouldn't be too difficult to source though. I can help you source it.
These A124's are very rare as they come - a low milage facelift car is always a good buy!
Hello everyone, Thank you for your interest in my 190e 2.6! This is a turnkey car that has been gone through with a fine tooth comb. I purchased this car from the previous owner who owns a Mercedes-Benz service center intended for this car to act as his daily driver. The car drives like a brand new 190e and is extremely original. The car bears its original paint (with some assumed imperfections) but has benefited from cosmetic refreshes such as the rear spoiler, modern continental head unit and speakers, as well as the OEM sportline trim (which is very cool to see on a Mercedes of this vintage). I have a driving video upload on the way alongside photos of the receipts and undercarriage. Happy bidding!
600SEL rather...
I have recently seen this S600 at a notable Mercedes-Benz Service Center in ATL. This is a very impressive car that you does not cross the auction block in this condition very often. I love M120 powered cars and personally own an S600. The powerplant is extremely reliable, and I have been enjoying my car trouble free for over 30,000 miles. Say what you want, these are amongst the most reliable and drama-free powerplants that actually provide a thrill. Not to mention the over-engineered road fortress that surrounds that engine.
IMO the pre-facelift is the way to go on a W213. Still looks fresh four years later.
This is quite a rare offering - and already out of the car. No need to take chances to see whether the engine is good or not. From one 600 owner to another... this engine will be incredible no matter what the application. GLWTA
I’ve got my popcorn ready…
I love a proper SEC. I love the chrome wheels but I know they are not to everyone's taste. I think this is a great subtle color combo.
A 1999 model year W140 should not have any wiring harness issues from the factory at all. 99 is arguably the best model year for 140's regardless of engine. The M104 is a great choice and has no issues bringing this land yacht up to speed. GLWTA
