The vertical chrome door edging is also an aftermarket add-on. But nonetheless all these chrome "goodies" were popular owner add-ons and can be found on many 107 body cars 1971-1989.
A nice example! Typical of these cars, the owner(s) installed aftermarket chrome wheels, fender flares, window tinting, and pin striping. Apparently no undercarriage pix, which would be nice as the condition of the exhaust system and potential fluid leaks could be analyzed; an exhaust system repair/replacement can be most expensive. Also would be nice to see closeups of the dash and console wood which affect value. These cars suffered from clouding/delamination of the factory clear coat finish; would be curious to know what has been repainted if anything; looks like there is some red paint over spray on the passenger door sill plate (hard to tell in picture). Surprised that the current owner did not replace the disintegrated hood pad, a relatively inexpensive repair that a conscientious owner would typically do. Steering wheel is somewhat dried out; a dye job and silicone application might be in order. Would love to see a video of the dash lights upon startup and the power antenna in operation. Nonetheless, a nice example worthy of a collector; I own a few myself.
Congrats to the buyer! Car is sold!
We are very close to the reserve! Almost there!
There is no rust on this car and there has never been any, nor has the car ever been exposed to adverse weather in Ohio.
Fantastic example of a surviving W120! I own 4 of these W120/W121 body cars and yours is the nicest one I've seen advertised in a few years. Not many diesel's out there. The Becker tube radio with the Wonderbar is a rarity. Nice to see one with an original interior. Best of luck to you!
Pictures added today show the addition of a cup holder that is hidden in the rear seat console, the original Becker cassette radio that came with the car, parts and service records that confirm the correct mileage, and the the VIN decoder showing the factory-installed options on the car. The car has been featured at a few shows, with the regional MBCA Gemultlehkeit event of 2007 near Cleveland, and the Glenmoor Gathering of Fine Automobiles in Canton in 2008. The last picture shows the car as it is now parked in my residence garage; one of my Pontons is above it, and one of my R230SL's is next to it. My daily driver never gets to see a garage . . .
My purchase of the car in 2003 was with with the BBS wheels that had been newly installed by the selling dealer. With the addition of a few pictures today, the listing portfolio is now complete, and shows everything that will come with the car, thank you.
Welcome to the auction! As an M-B enthusiast and collector since 1972, I have 15 Mercedes-Benz models dating from 1958. Some of them, including this one, have been featured at Mercedes Benz Club of America regional events. It is now time for me to sell off some of the collection in order to downsize my lifestyle. None of the cars have been driven more than 2000 miles since their purchase, but most - like this one - are taken out on nice days for a cruise-in, or a trip to a local winery, or similar. All are stored in climate-controlled garages year-round. I perform routine maintenance myself (pictures show the hobby lift in my garage) so most of the service records that will be posted shortly will show the purchase of parts, but not labor. To answer a question, the gorgeous burl wood steering wheel is a replacement for the original, without the airbag feature; the airbag electronics remain in place and the passenger airbag is presumed functional. This car is located in Canton, Ohio (home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame!) about an hour south of Cleveland. I can assist with shipping, or pick the buyer up at the Akron-Canton airport, which is 10 minutes from the car's storage location. Wired funds only, please. The auction's reserve price is reasonable, and should not discourage potential bidders who are looking to own a nice C126 example at a modest price. The last of the V8's and V12's for Mercedes-Benz have rolled off the assembly line earlier this year (as announced corporately). As the flagship model for Mercedes-Benz in 1991, originally selling for around $82,000, this is both the last model, and the last year of, the so-called "all-German" Mercedes, so it should be a good long-term investment. I've enjoyed owning it. Good luck!
