This 1991 Mercedes-Benz 560SEL 6.0 AMG was delivered new to Japan in 1991 and is presented with 72,945 km (~45k miles). The car was first imported to the United States in 2018 and subsequently acquired by the current owner in February 2019. The car is finished in Astral Silver (735) over Black leather (261) and power comes from an AMG-modified 6.0L V8 paired to a four-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes cruise control, a power sunroof, automatic climate control, and heated front and rear seats with front seat position memory. Other AMG features include a full body kit including bumpers, side skirts, and spoiler, 3-piece AMG wheels, exhaust, steering wheel, rear wooden tray tables, door trim, and shift knob, and AMG gauges. The car has remained in climate controlled storage and recent service in 2021 included all fresh fluids including oil, coolant, brakes, and transmission along with new brake pads and rotors. The car is now being offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with an original AMG brochure, factory literature, two keys, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Florida title.
This 6.0 SEL was originally finished in Black Pearl from the factory and received a full body repaint to Astral Silver (735) in Japan under previous ownership. The car features a full period-correct AMG full body kit including front and rear bumpers, side skirts, and a ducktail spoiler designed to reduce drag and wind resistance. Other exterior features include a sunroof with tilt function, lower front fog lights, paint-matched chrome trim, and dual exit AMG exhaust tips.
Staggered 3-piece AMG Aero III wheels made by OZ Racing have a silver-painted face with a polished lip and hardware. The wheels are fitted with new directional Nexen N3000 tires measuring 235/45 up front and 275/40 in the rear. The seller states that the car received new brake pads and rotors in 2021 along with a brake fluid flush.
The interior is finished in Black leather (261) along with a matching dash and carpet. Burl wood accents the cabin on the center console, doors and dash while additional wood trim pieces have been added by AMG including a shift knob, rear folding tray tables, and additional door trim. An AMG plaque can be seen on the center console above the shift surround and additional amenities include cruise control, a power sunroof, automatic climate control, and heated front and rear seats with front seat position memory.
The AMG four-spoke steering wheel is made by Momo and frames AMG instrumentation including a 300kph speedometer, 7k rpm tachometer with an inset clock, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and instant economy. The odometer currently reads 72,945 km (~45k miles).
This W126 features an AMG-modified 6.0-liter DOHC 32-valve M117/9 V8 engine that increased engine output to approximately 380 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. The car originally came fitted with a 5.5L V8 which AMG swapped the stock single-cam, two-valve-per-cylinder heads for its own free-breathing, twin-cam, four-valve-per-cylinder units. Photos of the engine bay are provided showing the AMG valve cover stickers indicating the 6.0 conversion. Recent service in 2021 included all fresh fluids including oil, coolant, brakes, and transmission along with new brake pads and rotors.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission with a Torsen limited-slip differential and a reinforced rear subframe. Additional underbody photos are provided in the gallery.
The factory tool roll and spare tire are located in the trunk area and AMG-specific indicator stickers can be seen on the top of the trunk seal.
The Carfax report shows no accidents or damage since its first entry in September 2018 when it was imported into the United States. This W126 6.0 sedan is now offered in Florida with an original AMG brochure, factory literature, two keys, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Florida title.

When these cars ended up in Japan as stock 56SEL's there were a lot that were modified in later yrs and turned into replica AMG's and to confirm it was an original you need paperwork to verify. Japan workshops were very resourceful in creating replica's. Odd it has a stock soundsystem. Bumpers look like f/glass replica's and not painted orignal chrome mouldings. Exhaust is not AMG. Engine swap you have no way of telling the M119 is bored out to 100mm cylinders, forged pistons & M117 crank swap unless paperwork or engine stripped down to verify otherwise it could by just a 5ltre M119-960 swap with M117 timing cover & sump. Notice cracks in most of the AMG wheel centres in the lug holes to centre bore walls. Very strange to repaint highly desirable 119 blue/black to silver? notice paint overspray on the door handles rubber indicating handles were not removed for painting. i wonder what diff it is running? if it is a 2.47 you know it not AMG. The Euro 300hp were running 2.65 & AMG 2.82 or 3.06 and Gleason-torson centres and also 1st gear start My guess is it a replica AMG unless the seller has AMG documentation. In saying that it is still a nice car and super desrirable and rare even if it is a replica it just means it won't attract cashed up collectors chasing verified original pre-merger AMG cars prepared to pay. Looks like bidding got passed in & did not meet reserve so interesting to find out the final outcome
What size wheels are those 17” what are the offsets?
I wonder what the reserve was set to
Surprised it didn't sell for around this price

Rear muffler not original, is has normally a Spot welded AMG Identification number AMG-Sign anf is much larger in size especially in height
@Ali63 Looks like AMG suspension and AMG/Ate 4 pistons brakes. Center muffler not AMG - stock MB (why??). Rear muffler looks like not AMG Sebring (can see welds?). If its 1991 JP AMG it should have dedicated AMG JP user manual.
@Porschephile The term "M117/9" is absolutely correct, used officially by AMG - you can find it on a label placed on right engine head. Indeed, this is technically M119 engine with some parts from M117, like @AMG5pt4 wrote.
These were al a carte builds however it appears the later pre-merger cars especially the Japan builds were mostly exterior body kits/wheels and the motor. I’ve noticed the early 80’s cars out of Affalterbach had much more custom interiors and sound systems. I’m worried as the market for these appreciates we will start to see some non authentic pre-merger cars. Those who have documented cars will be financially awarded.
if you want the price of an original AMG 560 SEL 6.0 which we would pay for, we need a proof for that. Not it could be maybe backdated M 119, repainted in other color, If AMG made this OK, but we need facts for that - sorry
Interesting to see a stock sound system. Would have thought Nakamichi or Technics headunits at the very least. Besides the engine what other AMG treatment on the driveline? First gear start, gleason torsen diff? Can't tell from the pics it appears to have AMG shocks and springs and the big brake kit on the front?
@porschephile I guess either way would be correct. This is a 1991 and by then AMG had realized that it took a lot less work to make this engine a 6 litter as it was already a DOHC and it is far more reliable. I guess the m117 is a more iconic engine to own but this is more useful.
@StarPeopleWorld I have not heard of the term "M117/9". What this seems to be is an M119 that has been backdated with some M117 parts to work in the older W126 chassis. If you want to combine engine codes, wouldn't it be more accurate to use M119/7 since the engine actually started life as a factory Mercedes M119 which was later modified with M117 and AMG parts? When folks think of an AMG 32v DOHC 6.0 in a w126, they whink of an M117 with the custom AMG 32v heads. This car has M119 Mercedes heads, not the custom heads that AMG made for the M117. This is the important clarification. Cool car, and best of luck with the sale!
This engine started as an early M119 engine (I believe M119.960) from a 90-91 R129 500SL. The engine was modified by taking the front timing cover from an M117 560 engine and installing it along with a distributor to the M119 engine to use the EZL and ECU from the 560SEL. It's more complicated than that (lower oil pans had to be swapped), but that is the basics. Maybe someone with more knowledge of the conversion can chime in to correct any errors I may have stated. The early M119 engine used the same KE-Jet fuel system as the M117, making the fuel system easier to interact with the 560SEL electronics. The M117 and early M119.960 blocks were very similar. You get the reliability and extra power (32v engine) of the M119 without some of the challenges of the very rare AMG M117 DOHC 32-valve engines. Sure would be nice if the Japan market headlights would have been changed to US/ROW market headlights - they are readily available. Looks like from close up views of the 3-piece OZ wheels that 3 of the 4 wheels have at least one crack between the center bore and a lug bolt hole. Seller can confirm. Odd that the car would have been repainted Silver vs the original 199 Blue Black Metallic - they made a lot of these cars in both colors! Although, silver with a black interior was not as common. Neat car with lots of AMG mods to the interior. Would be fun to own.
@Shervin Just Yakuza. The Yakuza Edition.
@Tom69 We don't know. Not much documentation of the car in Japan. (Slight Possibility it was done by AMG via the first owner spec request)
@Tom69 M117/9
@Porschephile DOHC 32-valve M117/9 V8
car was original BLUE-BLACK - METALLIC PAINT 199? Who repainted it in silver?
Question the engine looks like a M119 and not like a M117/9?
Is this an M117 or M119 32v V8?
@TheAMGKit No, but they can easily be replaced.
