This 1995 Mercedes-Benz E420 was first sold at Mercedes-Benz of Cincinnati in November 1994 where it remained until 2006. Recent service includes all new engine fluids, trans fluid and filter, new V-belt, power steering fluid and filter change, brake fluid flush, new air filters, new battery, and a new brake light switch. The wiring harness was replaced under recall 95-0223 by Mercedes-Benz in 2002. Modifications include the installation of European V8 Sportline springs and pads in 2022. This W124 E420 shows 114k miles and is now offered with a binder of service records dating back to 2002, manufacturer’s literature, a set of new-in-box OEM Euro headlamp lenses with Lamin-X (not installed), the factory tool roll, a clean Carfax report and a clean transferrable Connecticut registration. (Note: CT does not issue titles for pre-1999 vehicles but registration is transferrable and seller has the previous unsigned title in hand from prior owner as well).
The car is finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic (744) with matching lower cladding and features chrome trim around the belt line and grille. Equipment includes an electric sunroof with tilt function, a single windshield wiper, as well as headlight wipers and washers. The seller notes that the rear bumper cover was replaced in 2008 by Wayne Carini’s Continental Autobody in Portland, CT following parking lot damage. The rest of the paint shows very well and is believed to be all original. In 2022, the exterior of the car received new windshield wiper and a new wiper blades for the OEM headlamp washers. The seller notes there is a small hole in the driver’s headlamp glass but a set of new in box OEM replacement Euro-Spec headlamp lenses are included with the sale. All glass is OEM throughout.
Eight-hole 15″ alloy wheels are mounted with 195/65 Michelin Primacy MXV4 tires with 2012 date codes. All four wheels were professionally refinished in 2021 with the correct machined finish. Equipment includes four-wheel disc brakes and Acceleration Slip Regulation. The seller notes that the tires have between 8-9/32nds of tread left, with no cracks or abnormal wear present. In 2022, the OEM springs were replaced with a set of Sportline springs and pads. Photos of the suspension are viewable in the gallery.
The seats are upholstered in Grey Leather (268), while burl wood veneer accents the center console, dashboard, and doors. Additional equipment includes cruise control, heated and power-adjustable front seats, driver’s position memory, automatic climate control, and a cassette stereo with a trunk mounted CD changer. The wood appears free from any major cracks or delamination throughout and headliner is free of any sagging.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer along with an analog clock, an external temperature readout, and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 114k miles.
The 4.2-liter M119 V8 was factory rated at 275 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque when new. The wiring harness was replaced under recall 95-0223 and is verified with a letter from MB in 2002. Recent service includes all new engine fluids, trans fluid and filter, new V-belt, power steering fluid and filter change, brake fluid flush, new air filters, new battery, and a new brake light switch. In 2022 the car received a new ignition module (EZL), new fuel pressure regulator, new engine intake tubes, and left front swaybar link.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. Additional underbody photos are provided in the gallery.
The Carfax report indicates no accidents or other damage and shows history in Illinois, Ohio and Connecticut. This W124 E420 is now offered with a binder of service records dating back to 2002, manufacturer’s literature, a set of OE European headlamps with Lamin-X (not installed), the factory tool roll, a clean Carfax report and aclean transferrable CT registration. (Note: CT does not issue titles for pre-1999 vehicles but registration is transferrable and seller has the previous unsigned title in hand from prior owner as well).
The W124 is a bonafide classic in enthusiast circles but the V8-powered E420 has been consistently underrated next to its Porsche-built big brother the 500E. These 8-cylinder sedans provide power, comfort and legendary reliability while sporting a sacco-designed suit that fits the bill. This particular example appears to be very well kept and benefits from a healthy list of recent services. The 1994 and 1995 model years are generally the most desirable to own. When compared to the far more expensive 5.0L versions, the value proposition is huge for the E420.

@RADSTR, I have a 500E too, yes, we love the W124s ! This is an excellent car; all original paint (except for rear bumper cover), no rust. The A/C works great...the evaporator was replaced in 2004 according to the records. The car needs nothing.
I'm sorry but I am not getting any personal messages for some reason....please ask here or you can text or call me at (860) 202-4554 for any questions on the car....Jimbo

@gbouton Your deductive skills are spot on. Small world. :-) The ex-enchanter car was for sale in VA recently. I had half a thought of buying it, before my better have had other suggestions. ;-)
@cgrafff1 -- taking a guess based on your username, but I used to own a M535i that you were probably familiar with (ex Enchanter car). small world!
Thanks @Jimbo, those are certainly all the usual suspects. Car appears well cared for and documented, with some Sportline goodies that bring it right up next to a 500E IMO (as close as it can get anyway). GLWA. maw
@MistoCT , you can text me at (860)202-4554 to view the vehicle in Manchester, Connecticut
@maw1124 ,the upper wiring harness was replaced under the recall campaign 95-0223 with documentation from MBUSA in a letter dated Nov. 18, 2002. The lower harness is original and under visible inspection neither shows any signs of wear or malfunction. The motor mounts also appear original and exhibit no signs or deformity or leakage at 114k miles. There is a binder with all the service records after 2002 with the car. A VMI of its earliest days is available at your dealer but is truly uneventful. The biggest ticket item in the records was that the evaporator was replaced in 2004 by Precision Motors in Cincinnati, OH. The steering box was also replaced in 2011. Most of the records are for regular oil changes and tune-ups. New fuel pressure regulator was installed, a new ignition module, the brake fluid, the rear differential fluid, the transmission filter and fluid all changed recently. A coolant change, air filters replaced, fuel filter replaced, new spark plugs, caps and rotors, , new battery, a new V-belt and belt tensioner were also performed within the last 2 years. Several new rubber and plastic bits under the hood and around the car, particularly the rear bumper blend pieces inside the fender, which are often missing and no longer available.
Thank you sir. How do I set up a viewing of the car since I live in CT?
@MistoCT , Another day or two of detailing and it could be a concourse winner !
I see no mention of wiring harnesses, upper and lower. Have they been replaced? What about engine mounts? I apologize if service records have been posted somewhere. GLWA maw
Beautiful car. What would you need to do to bring it show room condition?
@gsxr , TY! The rear sway bar is stock and OE for this .034. There is no indication in the records that it had been replaced.
@cdwatnsu , haha! This became a summer driver in CT after 2006 for an elderly couple, like perhaps a few thousand miles per year. It was in his collection, which were all summer drivers.
@jblunceford , thanks ! Its beautiful; all stock OE, rides fantastic with the new Sportline springs. A real time capsule.
@jblunceford , no sir, the underside is very clean. I can't say if it was driven in the IL winters but appears not. Since 2006 this car was a summer driver only for an elderly couple that I had known since the 1980s.
Seems to be one of the cleanest 124s I’ve seen in some time. Love that it’s a 4.2!
Does the car show any indication of winter salt exposure?

This 1995 Mercedes-Benz E420 was first sold at Mercedes-Benz of Cincinnati in November 2004 where it remained until 2002. The car did time travel? Awesome!
That rear sway bar looks beefy in the photos. Is it stock, or a 500E rear bar? Car is beautiful, GLWS!
