This 1983 Mercedes-Benz 300TD Wagon was acquired by the current owner and selling dealer in 2025. The first recorded registration shows Arizona in 1994 where it remained through 2000. Subsequent registrations show New Mexico, New Jersey, and Florida. The original window sticker is included in the sale and shows the original selling dealer as Mercedes-Benz of Tucson with a $36k MSRP when new. Finished in Champagne Metallic (473) over Palomino MB-Tex (154), power is provided by a 3.0-liter inline-five turbodiesel engine paired with a four-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. Factory features include a manual sliding sunroof, power windows, automatic climate control, vacuum powered central locking, cruise control and a Becker Europa radio. This example includes a stamped service booklet showing regular, scheduled services through 30k miles. The included Carfax report shows history from 39k miles with good service documentation from 2018 through present. While the Carfax shows “not actual miles” it’s noted that mileage shows linear updates since the first record in 1994. Thorough records are included with the car to substantiate mileage claims and service history. In 2019 the car received a mechanical refresh including a new head gasket, valve cover gasket, crankshaft seal, new mounts, new belts, new cooler lines, a new SLS valve, and general fluid and filter services. This 1983 300TDT is now offered for sale with original paperwork, window sticker, service records, 1 ignition key, a Carfax report, and a clean Florida title.
The exterior is finished in Champagne Metallic (473) with chrome body trim, chrome bumpers and chrome roof rails. Exterior equipment includes a manual sliding steel sunroof, front and rear fog lamps, Euro-market headlamps, heat insulating glass and a heated rear window. The seller reports that the car received a repaint in 2019 due to clear coat failure - a common failure in metallic paints from this era. Detailed photos can be seen in the gallery.
The factory 14” Bundt alloy wheels are fitted with a set of Firestone tires which measure 195/70, show 2021 date codes, and measure 9-10/32 tread depth at the time of listing. No signs of corrosion or damage are visible on the wheels or lugs. Included are factory center caps.
The cabin is upholstered in Palomino MB-Tex (154) with matching carpets while Zebrano wood trim lines the center console and dashboard. Calico CocoMats were added for each front and rear footwell. Interior appointments consist of automatic climate control, cruise control, central locking, power windows and a Becker Europa head unit. The cruise control and climate control are noted to be currently working.
A four-spoke steering wheel fronts analog instrumentation consisting of an 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, a clock and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature and oil pressure. The six-digit odometer currently shows 138k miles from new.
This S123 is powered by a 3.0-liter OM617A inline-five turbodiesel engine which is factory rated for 123 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. The included Carfax report shows history from 39k miles with good service documentation from 2018 through present. Congratulations to the seller and high bidder for agreeing to a sale post auction at $27,750! Thank you to all who participated.@EMG1 Thanks for your patience and responsiveness. Let us know if you come to an agreement.Thank you so much to everyone! Bidders and watchers alike. We appreciate all the positive comments on this beautiful car. @MercyDee hope we can make a deal that will work for both of us.@omdriver @vigil @robertlnm I don't appreciate the disrespectful comments towards me. As you can see I put my money where my mouth is and actually bid on the auction to a reasonable number. You guys need to take a look at the Carfax report for this vehicle. It clearly states there is a mileage issue and it clearly states that even the previous owner reported a mileage issue. My comments on this auction were completely reasonable.Thank you so much to everyone! Bidders and watchers alike. Thanks! Always worth asking. We are on the home stretch! Good luck to all bidders.@AlexZapra8 all questions are good! The headlights and corner lights were swapped to Euro spec and we do not have the originals@EMG1 this might be a dumb question but do you have the orange from corner lights?$15,500 bid placed by @AlexZapra8

@VIGIL how is trying to verify mileage off putting? All of the methods you mentioned for verifying mileage are completely incorrect. Your uneducated response towards me is not appreciated. I am simply an educated buyer asking excellent questions. That is completely reasonable.@OMdriver how about you stop insinuating that you know what's going on? It's clear the odometer has been swapped out as the part number on the odometer is from a different year model. We don't know why the steering wheel was covered that's why I was asking to see the condition of the steering wheel to help determine the mileage. I'm not insinuating anything I'm just an educated buyer. I'm not interested in your emotional responses I'm interested in facts.@Honeybun thank you for the question. All vacuum actuated functions work as they should. All lines and rubber connections are in great condition. Another indication as to how this car was preserved. Is the vacuum system in good working order? Thank you.$10,250 bid placed by @VIGIL
The wheel is bolted in by a 10mm Allan and is easily swappable. Wonder why he’s hung up on JUST the steering wheel? It’s not like it’s fixed to the car like a chassis frame rail… There’s other things you can look at on the car to verify mileage such as the engine bay, hardware plating, undercarriage, Palomino dye wear on the Tex, pedal wear, so on and so forth. Car looks nice. I know John is a pretty respected member but his comments are kinda off putting.@Jtwoods4 I don't have any connection to the car or seller but I'd suggest you keep from insinuating that the car has an issue. It's just as possible that the wrap was because a previous owner wanted to touch something more pleasant than the taxi-spec material on the original wheel. Moreover, it looks like those expressing concern over unwrapping the wheel care about preserving the current condition...You and I don't each other but we have crossed paths before and I know you to be a fair person. Best to refrain from calling users pretentious. I enjoy MB Market because the majority of us are respectful, understanding Mercedes-nerds who are all here for the same reasons. The seller noted that the records contain mileage notes substantiating the car's mileage...you saying it's "most likely" masking a worn out wheel is not a fair assumption. Again, I don't have a dog in the fight but I do have a vested interest in seeing these cars continue to be enjoyed by future generations. I'll stay out of the way now ;)@Robertlnm instead of being pretentious maybe try listening to someone that knows what they're talking about. Removing the steering wheel wrap will allow you to see the condition of the underlying grain pattern on the steering wheel. It is clear that the gauge cluster odometer has been swapped out on this car and this is not the actual mileage on the vehicle. Removing the wrap and inspecting the grain pattern on the steering wheel will allow someone that knows what they're doing to get a better idea of the actual mileage. Most likely the raft was applied to cover a very smooth and worn out steering wheel due to high mileage and heavy use. The part number on the odometer is not for 1983 it's actually for 1985. So seriously yes remove the wrap on the steering wheel so we can determine what's actually going on here. Now do you get it? Seriously?Beautiful!@Jtwoods4 - seriously? Do you know how much work goes into putting the wrap on with such precision? Leave it as-is and dont remove it.Just under 5 hours to go! @ Eohora Thank you. The car is even more incredible in person! There is one tiny bubble about the size of a blunt pencil point on the drivers A pillar. We will submit a picture to be added to the gallery. Unfortunately I do not have any knowledge or pictures of the car prior to its restoration in 2019.This car looks incredible. From what I can tell from the photos, it’s completely rust free. Is that correct? Do you know if any areas of rust were repaired when it was repainted in 2019?This car looks incredible. Hope everyone is having a great weekend.@ProdigalPetrolHead I was about to mention our old 500SL and how much I liked the wrapped steering wheel that is identical to this. Thought I would hate it, but it adds an extra sturdiness factor it the car. Really nice wagon. I really need to add a S123 to the collection.I just wanted to see the original steering wheel to determine if the mileage is accurate. You can tell the mileage by the wear of the grain pattern on the steering wheel. It's all good no big deal.@ProdigalPetrolHead I always felt it was a nice touch and definitely feels great in your hands!FWIW I have an '81 500SL with a very similar leather wrap on the wheel. I've always loved it. Feels good, looks good, and actually gets a surprise compliment every once in a while.@Jtwoods4 I agree with the other response and will not remove the steering wheel wrap.$5,000 bid placed by @CHTHM
@Jtwoods4 what if the next owner wants it like that? LOLWould you be open to removing the aftermarket leather wrapping that has been put over the steering wheel? It would help to see the condition of the original steering wheel underneath that. Should be able to quickly remove it by just cutting those little stitches and it'll pull right off.Agreed on the service file- refreshing to see when so many of these cars are listed without this. Should bring a good result.@Mibenthal the head gasket did not fail. It was just one of the things replaced as part of the preventive engine refresh.Welcome everyone, we are very pleased to be able to offer this beautiful 300TD. With its longtime ownership and excellent service history it is ready for its next owner.Having owned MANY, MANY of these cars, the head gasket failure is uncommon. What was the cause of it? Your service file is nice to see!$250 bid placed by @Mibenthal
