This 1983 Mercedes-Benz 300D Turbodiesel was originally sold in Virginia where it remained until 2010 when it was moved to New York. In 2018, the car was relocated to Georgia and is currently offered by the selling dealer out of Atlanta, GA as a two-owner example. Finished in Classic White (737) over a Blue MB-Tex (152) interior, power comes from by a 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-five paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Features include a painted power sunroof, automatic climate control, an updated head unit with new speakers, and power windows, locks, and passenger side mirror. The air conditioning has been updated and converted to R134 and a complete fluid flush was perfromed in preparation for the sale. This W123 shows just under 68k miles and is offered with factory literature, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Georgia title.
The car is finished in Classic White (737) and features chrome-accented North American-spec bumpers and trim, European glass headlamps, an electric sliding sunroof, and an electrically adjustable passenger-side mirror. The trim, bumpers, and door handles are reportedly original to the car. The windshield has been previously replaced while all other glass remains original. The power antenna and power sunroof are functional. Detailed photos of the exterior are viewable in the gallery.
Factory Bundt 14″ alloy wheels are equipped and wear BCT S600 tires measuring 195/70 on all four corners. New brake pads and rotors were installed in early 2018.
The cabin features seats upholstered in Blue MB-Tex (152) with matching blue door panels, carpets, and dash. The carpets and matching floor mats were previously replaced and show nicely. Wood trim adorns the dashboard and center console with cracks visible near the window switches and temperature controls. Equipment includes functioning automatic climate control, cruise control, power windows, power door locks, and an aftermarket JVC head unit with new speakers and bluetooth capabilities for phone calls and audio streaming. The factory dashboard shows several cracks in the center which can be seen in the gallery below.
Instrumentation includes a 125-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and an analog clock. Additional auxiliary gauges include coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level which all function properly. The six-digit odometer shows just under 68k miles.
The 3.0-liter OM617 turbodiesel inline-five features a single Garrett turbocharger and Bosch fuel injection. Power was factory rated at 123 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque and is sent to the rear wheels via a 722.3 four-speed automatic transmission. The air conditioning was converted to R134 by the previous owner and a complete fluid flush was perfromed in preparation for the sale.
The Carfax report lists no accidents or damage along with linear mileage updates since new. This W123 shows just under 68k miles and is offered with factory literature, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Georgia title.

@sycamoresig79 Hi , we have not done a compression test while the car has been in our care, but it starts immediately, idles as smoothly as a diesel can, and pulls strongly.

@bcv1, circling back to you! We took some additional photos today of the areas mentioned to better highlight the previous rust repairs as well as other corrosion that was observed underneath. Those have been submitted to the MB Market team for upload. No luck in getting records on the repairs. We can totally appreciate your concerns! This is definitely a "survivor" quality 300D. A great driver example, to be sure, but a fair amount of rust can indeed be found undearneath.

@JoseyWales45 I suppose that's really preference at this point. The 617 is known for repeatedly going a million miles and being almost impossible to break. The 648, the last of the iron blocks, is arguably just as good as an engine but the technology in the w211 makes it just a little less dependable to seven figures....mid six figures is still very doable! HA (Just my two cents)
@JoseyWales45 Hi , Sorry for the delay in replying to you. I don't have an answer for you at the moment, but I have reached out to a colleague who is an expert on all things MB for his input. We'll get back to you as soon as we've had the chance to confer.

Hello, still learning about MB engine series. I was under the impression the OM648 was the ultimate diesel. How does the 617 differ?
@bcv1 Hi , there is a bit of corrosion under the driver's seat where the undercoat has peeled away, but it doesn't look (or feel) like it is more than skin-deep. I poked around at the rest of the floor with a screwdriver and everything felt very solid. The large patch you see in one of the photos that looks like a rust repair is actually where the undercoat has peeled away and someone touched up the spot with a thinner material. I lifted the trunk carpeting and tire cover, and everything is dry with no evidence of having been wet in the past. The car is currently in our offsite storage building and not on a lift, but I'll try to take a closer look on Monday.

@merlinautogroup Hi, I am really interested in your 300D but I have real concerns about the visible rust and rust repairs shown in pictures 144 and 148. Are the rear floors soft? Are there any records for these repairs? Also the spare tire compartment looks like it was exposed to a lot of moisture which is not common on these cars. Was this car stored out side for an extended period of time? Thank you in advance for your reply.
@cascadia Hi, and thanks for your interest in the 300D. I believe service records are available; I'll contact the previous owner and post scans of everything that we can get.

Absolutely AMAZING!
Interesting choice to paint some of the cad-plated engine components with copper colored paint. @merlinautogroup, does the car come with any service receipts from over the years? Has any paintwork been done on the car, or is the paint still all original? Thanks.
Boy this is tough to find in Classic White over navy. Killer example, GLWTA!
