This German market 1993 Mercedes-Benz 500SL 6.0 AMG was converted to a 6.0-liter engine in 1995 by MKB Tuning. Erhard Melcher, one of the original founders of AMG (the "M" in AMG stands for Melcher), founded MKB in 1989 to continue on the legend and spirit of Mercedes tuning that AMG had done for decades. The car is finished in Black Pearl Metallic (199U) over Medium Red Leather (277A) interior. Additional AMG modifications include 320mm 600SL front brake rotors and four-piston calipers, Gen II AMG bumpers front and rear including side skirts, 300-KPH speedometer, and OZ Racing Aero III wheels. The camshafts show AMG stampings. A RENNtech rear muffler is installed and a paint matched Black Pearl Metallic (199U) hard top is included. A converted red soft top is affixed to the car that matches the Medium Red Leather interior. This German market 1993 Mercedes-Benz is now offered with 22,900 kilometers (~14k miles), dealer stamped service booklet going back to 1993, two infrared key FOBs complete with key-case, and German title which includes the 6.0 AMG conversion and HWA AMG in the verbiage.
The Gen II AMG bumpers and side skirts are painted in Black Pearl Metallic (199U) to match the rest of the original paint color. The original black soft top was swapped at some point during ownership for a red soft top to match the Medium Red Leather (277A) interior. A RENNtech rear muffler is installed. The glass is tinted with OE green glass all the way around and the headlights are optioned with the cleaning system.
The staggered 17” 3-piece Aero III wheels are made by OZ Racing. The original AMG flat center caps have been replaced with Astral Silver classic style Mercedes-Benz center caps. Tires are 265/45 rear and 235/45 front. Tires are Dunlop SP Sport 9000s with ninth week of 2002 date codes. This 500SL comes with a spare 17” AMG Monoblock in the spare tire compartment. Tucked behind the OZ wheels are 320mm 600SL front brake rotors and four-piston calipers. Brake fluid was changed in 2019 at 21k kilometers.
The Medium Red Leather (277A) covering the interior, door cards, dashboard, and steering wheel is punctuated by the Burl Walnut wood trim on the center console and doors. Amenities include climate control, infrared door locks, heated seats, red floor mats, retracting roll bar, heated rear hardtop glass, period correct Sony head unit, Acceleration Skid Control toggle, cassette tape magazine, factory green tint glass, and headlamp cleaning system. Rear kinder seats are optioned with a Pyle Driver subwoofer sitting on top of one seat. A factory first aid kit is included in the trunk. The paint matched hardtop has a sagging headliner and does not include a stand.
The leather wrapped steering wheel frames an AMG 300-KPH speedometer, 7k tachometer, analog clock, and auxiliary gauges for oil pressure, instant economy, and coolant temperature. The odometer reads 22,900 kilometers (~14k miles).
The M119 V8 was bored and stroked to increase displacement by MKB Tuning to 6.0 liters which injects 375 horsepower and 428 lb-ft of torque straight to the rear wheels. Erhard Melcher, one of the original founders of AMG (the "M" in AMG stands for Melcher), founded MKB in 1989 to continue on the legend and spirit of Mercedes tuning that AMG had done for decades. The 6.0L upgrade is documented on the German title and the AMG stampings are seen on the camshafts. The Bosch CIS fuel distributor can be seen hugging the firewall at the back of the intake manifold. Power is sent to the rear wheels through the 722.3 four-speed automatic transmission. The 6.0 AMG conversion is documented in 1995 and has seen three owners. Autohaus Wessel did a lengthy service to the 500SL in May of 2019 at 21,705km including: brake fluid replacement, eight new spark plugs, coolant service, power steering fluid flush complete with filter, engine oil and filter, ARS service, new brake light switch, and over-voltage protection relay. A 40k kilometer service was performed in May of 2020 per the Mercedes-Benz maintenance manual.
Service records and dealer maintenance go back as far as 1993. The 500SL comes with two keys, Mercedes-Benz literature, and a paint match hardtop, and clean German title with the 6.0 AMG conversion notated on it.
We love seeing anything pre-merger AMG on here and this R129's 6.0 conversion has roots that go very deep into AMG. One of the founding members of AMG, Erhard Melcher, who's last name represents the "M" in AMG, founded MKB Motorenbau (aka MKB Tuning) in 1989. Melcher's passion and expertise in tuning Mercedes-Benz engines is what made AMG famous and MKB now provides that same level of modification to cars today. One of the earlier cars was this 500SL which MKB converted to a 6.0 using AMG parts in 1995. This Black Pearl Metallic over Medium Red 1993 500SL 6.0 AMG is as menacing as it gets and has aged gracefully, arguably bordering on contemporary as this color combo has returned to vogue status. A lot of Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts argue that the later R129s with the 722.6 is the one to buy, but those that know their Mercedes-Benz history and have driven a post-facelift and a pre-facelift cars back to back would argue the earlier cars are better. The 722.3 four-speed transmission has this hardcore feedback to it that is unmistakable. Kickdowns are downright violent and gear changes are snappy – crisp – compared to the docile 722.6. Paired with this bored and stroked documented 6.0-liter engine, we’re certain this would have no issue breaking traction on kickdown. The pre-facelift cars also got a W126-esque carry over in the quality of materials used. Look at the window sticker of an early car compared to a later one and you’ll see that Mercedes-Benz made a cheaper car later in the production run. This 1993 500SL 6.0 AMG had to have been one of the heaviest hitters stalking the left lane of the autobahn in the early ‘90s with only the most eyewateringly expensive exotics able to come close. This 6.0 AMG R129 is the one we’d have.

Beautiful car, presents well (and the color combo is outstanding!) Just a gripe from the peanut gallery that it's very hard to see the close-up photos of the exterior, IMHO. The photogenic shots outside are phenomenal, but the close- up shots in the garage have too many distractions from the ground, overhead lights, etc. (they look like scratches at first glance). But that's just me griping : ) LOVELY car; jealous of the eventual buyer! Good luck!

We have confirmed the 6.0 conversion was performed by MKB and the listing has been updated.
Renn Tech exhaust, facelift lights, gen 2 kit. Strange combo of mods.
I would assume that it is a 6.0 conversion from MKB. There is also an MKB sticker in the engine compartment. MKB and Lorinser also offered 6.0 conversions at the time. An inquiry at AMG Classic would answer the question whether the conversion was made by AMG or by another company.

@Autostrada thank you for being responsive and honest. I am satisfied with what you sent me to prove it’s a 6.0. Thanks and genuinely wish you well with the auction.

In the title of the car, you have 6.0 and in the documentation of the technical control. You also have plus. If you see the photos you can see there is two photos from inside the engine and you have amg stamped inside the metal. we have been searching a lot and spoken with the workshops who have done those cars at that time, and they confirmed to me on all the first models there was no stamps or anything. The only place you could see it is inside the engine and of course in the title of the car. If you give me your email address, I will send you the title and also you can see the horsepower. The guy who owned the car is a very big player of porsche and special cars in North of Germany, just South Hamburg and he was dead by cancer around 10 years ago and I bought six cars from the widow 5 of them special porsches
I don’t wanna be a party pooper. It’s a beautiful car. But I don’t see any pictures of the title or anything saying that it’s a 6.0 amg. All I see is service records. There isn’t even the amg stickers that are usually on these. I already bought a 91 6.0 amg from this website just a few months ago and I would be a serious player on this if more evidence is provided. Thank you.

Just to clarify, although this is listed as "1993", the car was manufactured in late 1991. I know European titles often show the year it was first sold/registered/titled/whatever, but this can be very misleading for USA buyers that are used to "model years" - which do not exist in Europe. Datacard showing approximately November-1991 production date: https://www.lastvin.com/vin/1eQm3AV5em929GW6N Note that the M119.960 engine with CIS-E mechanical injection was only used in 1990-1992 USA model years (129.066 chassis), and 1993-1995 USA R129's are all 129.067 chassis with 119.972 engines and LH-SFI injection. Love the red interior & top... GLWS!
@ammaraj24 nope there’s no to commentation from amg. I bought the car back in 2019 from a widow, together with six other Porsches, but if you see the photos of the engine, opened, you see it’s all amg, and you also see the technical doc, and the title is also amg so the necessary documentation has been there to provide the technical control, and to change the title in Germany, is not possible to do that kind of things if you’re not have completely full documentation
Is there any documentation from amg themselves to prove that this is a 6.0 amg?
@thesheikh original Rims if you see the photos you have in the engine all amg, and you also have the location in the German title, and in the technical report from the German TUV the car was born as sl 500 and in 1995 rebuilt to amg.
@seller if this is an original pre merger AMG R129, where is the AMG I body kit? Why convert to AMG II? Are the rims original to the car? Authentic or replicas? Can we see photos of the documentation that says it is a 6.0 amg? Thank you
