This 1985 Mercedes-Benz 420SEC is a European-market example which made its way to the States in 2002 and shows just 117k kilometers (~73k Miles) from new. Finished in Manganese Brown Metallic (480) over Light Brown Velour (974), power is provided by a 4.2-liter V8 engine mated to a four-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. Equipment includes a power tilt/slide sunroof, power front seats, power windows, a power passenger-side mirror, self-leveling rear suspension, automatic climate control, cruise control and a Becker Grand Prix radio. Recent maintenance included a front suspension refresh along with a new fuel pump relay. Service history from 2013 is included along with service records from 1989 to 1994 in Germany. This 420SEC is now offered for sale by the selling dealer in Miami, Florida with the original manufacturer’s literature, first-aid kit and a clean Florida title.
This pillarless coupe is finished in Manganese Brown Metallic (480) and features contrasting lower body cladding and chrome trim on the bumpers. Exterior features include headlamp wiper/washers, front fog lamps, a power tilt/slide glass sunroof and a power-operated passenger-side door mirror. The Carfax report shows damage to the front in 2015 and an accident reported in 2023 with minor damage to the rear. The car presently shows no signs of body damage or rust.
15” Gullideckel alloy wheels are fitted with Toyo tires on all four corners along with four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes. Additional equipment includes self-leveling rear suspension. A full-size spare can be found mounted below the trunk floor along with the factory jack.
The cabin is trimmed in Light Brown Velour (974) with matching carpets and headliner with Burl Walnut wood trim lining the center console, dashboard and door panels. The seller notes a chip in the wood trim on the ashtray cover as well as cracks on the center console. Both front seats are power operated and fold forward to provide access to the second row. Interior amenities include automatic climate control, cruise control, a wood shift knob and the original Becker Grand Prix radio with an aftermarket equalizer mounted in the trunk. Minor wear is noted on the driver side seat upholstery with the interior otherwise in good condition.
The black leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 240 km/h speedometer along with a 7k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock and gauges for fuel level, economy, coolant temperature and oil pressure. The six-digit mechanical odometer currently reads 117k kilometers, approximately 73k miles.
This C126 is powered by a 4.2-Liter M116 V8 engine rated for 215 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque which is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. Recent maintenance includes a front suspension refresh in 2018 consisting of new tie rods and control arms along with a new fuel pump relay. The timing chains and tensioner were replaced in 2015 at 112k kilometers. Service history dating to 2013 is included and documented in the photo gallery along with service records dating between 1989 and 1994 when the car was in Germany.
The Carfax report shows the car first being titled in the US in 2002 with registration in Florida and later registration in Georgia, Alabama and Massachusetts. This 1985 420SEC is now offered for sale in Miami, Florida with the original manufacturer’s literature, first aid kit and a clean Florida title.
A video below provides a walk around, start up, and driving footage of the car.
The C126 (and W126 chassis) has aged like a fine wine thanks to Sacco-era styling that is, unmistakably, classic Mercedes. As with each generation of S-class, this top-of-the-line offering from Mercedes is adequately over engineered but - unlike cars from the modern era - not overloaded with electronics; making this generation of Mercedes easy to keep on the road for decades. Throughout the 80’s and early 90’s, the coupe was the ultimate Grand Tourer with plenty of power on tap and that instantly recognizable pillarless window design. This M116-powered European-market example is finished in a stunning Manganese Brown Metallic paint with a desirable Velour interior that perfectly compliments the 80s styling. With just 117k kilometers on the odometer and a decade of recorded maintenance, this 420SEC would make the perfect addition to any enthusiasts’s garage.

@AndrewC I'm not sure if it's acceptable on MB Market to contact other members, but I guess I'll give it a shot. I now own this car. It has been fantastic. I drove it from Miami to Louisville, KY. I've probably put 2,000 miles on since I bought it. I'll be getting it ready for spring car shows. Did you own the car during the accidents listed on CarFax? Do you know how the damage was repainted. A car that age would be single stage paint originally. I am just researching what might be my best polishing products. The car looks and runs great.
Hi Iam still intrested in this car do you know if the buyer want to see it Thank you
@HurstT And way, way rarer.
That should be now commanding.
What a fight, that was fun lol! Congrats to @porschecollector cheers!
Congrats to the buyer! Beautiful Car, would have loved to bid if emissions was not an issue here in CA.
@HurstT too much imo
Considering what the 560’s are not commanding…. This looks like a good deal. A little bit less power but still the fantastic body style. Good luck bidders!

I'm not super well versed in mid-80s Mercs...... in pic 107, can anyone chime in if number plates were screwed on with philips screws rather than being riveted?

@xmaster35 Hi, The engine pulls smooth and strong, and the transmission shifts without any issue into each gear. The issue regarding the transmission leaking fluid has been remedied as can be seen by the photos of the undercarriage. The issue regarding fueling has been remedied as well.
Hello seller, Can you please let me know if there are any problems with the engine and transmission? The engine runs smoothly and pulls through without any problems. As the user AndrewC writes, the engine lost oil. Has this deficiency been remedied? Has the problem with the lack of fuel also been eliminated? Thanks a Lot
Underbody photos have been added to the gallery.
Great color and velour interior.

Looks much better now that the chrome wheel arch trims and chrome wire wheels have been removed!
Need to put the car on a lift and get pics of the bottom.
Does the car leak any fluids ? Are there any issues with the engine or transmission ?
Can you post pictures of the underside please?
I was the Massachusetts owner of this c126. Overall clean car, I decided to sell when the trans kept leaving puddles on the garage floor. Rear main seal needed to be addressed. And I had an odd fuel starvation issue on long trips, mechanic thought it might be fuel distributor. I had staggered 16” Lorinser LOs on it and it looked great in my driveway
