This 1967 Mercedes-Benz 250SE coupe is finished in Tobacco Brown over Beige Leather, and power is provided by a 2.5-liter gasoline inline-six paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. This coupe is one of approximately 5,260 examples produced between 1965 and 1967. Equipment includes a sunroof, 14″ steel wheels with body painted covers, four wheel disc brakes, power steering, lap seatbelts, a Becker Grand Prix radio, and Kühlmeister air conditioning. The selling party acquired the car in 2024 following a huge service done by the previous seller in 2020 including overhauled braking system, rebuilt fuel injection pump, replaced bumpers, shocks, power steering box, distributor, timing chain, air conditioning compressor, and fuel tank with a recent annual service by the current owner in preparation for the sale. Now showing just over 59k miles, this W111 coupe is now offered by the selling party in Calabasas, California with the owner’s manual, service records, and a clean Montana title.
The car was originally Havana Brown (408) from the factory and has been previously refinished in Tobacco Brown. Exterior features include a sunroof, a wrap-around rear window, stacked glass headlights, and front vent windows. The seller reports the bumpers and side mirror were replaced in 2020. A tan dual pinstripe accent the body line to match the interior color and the body is free of any corrosion. The brightwork appears in excellent condition as do the window bezels. Factory green tinted glass can be seen on the windows with original Sekurit stickers and the rubber window seals do not exhibit dry rot.
The 14″ steel wheels feature chrome covers with paint-matched centers and are mounted with 205/70 Hankook Kinergy tires with 2021 date codes. The car is equipped with power steering, independent front suspension, a rear single-joint swing axle with the updated design carried over from the W108 which alleviates lift-off snap oversteer, and four-wheel disc brakes which forced Mercedes-Benz to modify the size of the steel wheels to fit the updated larger brakes during this series of W111s. An overhaul of the brakes and replacement of the shocks, power steering pump, power steering box, center drag link, steering damper, and tie rods was performed upon the previous owner’s acquisition in 2020. New steering and suspension components can be seen in the gallery as well as the excellent condition of the swing axle which retains its hydro-pneumatic shock. Cadmium plated bolts and correct hardware are seen throughout the undercarriage.
The cabin features Beige Leather which covers the front and rear seats, along with matching doorcards and dash trim. Burl wood accents present well with high gloss and no cracks on the dash, gauge cluster, and A-pillars. Amenities include lap belts, a dashboard-mounted clock, and Kühlmeister air conditioning. The seller notes the Becker Grand Prix radio is inoperable. The W111 coupes were appointed with more interior wood on the dashboards, window trim, and instrument clusters with more chrome details compared to their sedan counterparts. Natural Herringbone CocoMats are equipped front and rear and the headliner shows no stains or rips. The trunk shows the factory spare wheel tool kit, tire iron, Bilstein jack, and original trunk stickers. Brown loop carpeting adorns the trunk and the wheel wells.
The ivory two-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and fronts a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows just over 56k miles, approximately 300 of which were added under current ownership. Mercedes-Benz introduced a collapsable steering column for the 1967 model year and the cushioned horn pad also acts as a safety device.
The 2.5-liter M129 inline-six features R20Y Bosch mechanical fuel injection and was factory rated at 150 horsepower and 159 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a floor shift four-speed fluid coupling K4A 025 automatic transmission. Extensive service in 2020 included rebuilding the fuel injection pump and replacing the fuel injector nozzles, distributor, power steering pump, timing chain, air conditioning compressor, fuel tank, water pump, shocks, brakes, and spark plug wires. Fuel injection lines and throttle linkages show new plating and the engine bay has been refreshed to OEM standards with the correct sheen and color of paint on the ancillary devices. The current seller has performed an annual service by a trusted independent mechanic in preparation for the sale. Decoding the data plate on the radiator support reveals the following information:

Restorations are hard and can be mucked up by inexperienced technicians quite easily or by people that don’t understand the systems that make a W111 operate so well. In fact, there are more bad restorations than good ones. By flipping through the pictures on this example, looking at the undersides and the engine bay, we had to pick our jaws off the desk after seeing just how good this car is. I don’t think we’ve seen a swing axle in this kind of condition and without a spec of grease anywhere. Most people also skip out of replacing suspension bushings because they’re such a miserable job on old cars like this, but we see plenty of new rubber pressed into control arms here. The plating isn’t overdone, the aluminum hasn’t been polished to a mirror finish, the correct sheen of black paint is applied where it should be on the engine, the correct hoses with the correct braiding is seen everywhere on the fuel system, and the interior is so well preserved that we just don’t know what to do with ourselves. The M129 is also a fabulous engine and paired in a brown coupe with the titanically large sunroof has us jealous of the next owner. With the cool summer nights turning into autumn soon, this car is going to be downright majestic as the weather changes the leaves into oranges, reds, and yellows. W111s just feel right during fall. The only thing this car is missing is some more miles put on the odometer.
