This 1983 Mercedes-Benz 300CD Turbo shows 293k miles from new along with over $100k in service receipts and restoration work performed in the last thirteen years. Finished in Champagne Metallic (473) over Palomino MB-Tex (154), power is provided by a 3.0-liter five-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine which was converted to allow the car to run on both diesel and vegetable oil. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission. The most recent service included a new radiator, transmission fluid and filter, thermostat and vacuum control valve. Equipment includes a power sunroof, cruise control, central locking, power windows, a heated rear window and a Becker Grand Prix radio. This 300CD is now offered for sale on behalf of the current owner in Newtown, Pennsylvania with thirteen years of service records, original manufacturer’s literature, a clean Carfax report and a clean Pennsylvania title.
The exterior is finished in Champagne Metallic (473) and features chrome accents on the bumpers, beltline and window trim with blue and gold pinstripes accenting the shoulder line. The car was resprayed in 2009 during the restoration at JD’s Auto Restoration in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania. The exterior is in good condition with no rust or body damage present. Exterior features consist of European spec headlights, power front windows, a power sunroof, power antenna and power passenger-side door mirror.
The factory Bundt alloy wheels measure 14” and wear Goodyear Assurance tires measuring 195/70 front and rear with date codes from 2013. The wheels show no signs of curb rash, damage or discoloration in the finish.
The cabin is trimmed in Palomino MB-Tex (154) with matching carpets and floor mats. Zebrano wood trim lines the center console and dashboard and shows no signs of discoloration or cracking. Interior features consist of a folding center armrest, central locking, a Becker Grand Prix radio, cruise control, and automatic climate control. Inside the glovebox is an auxiliary fuel gauge and switch for the vegetable oil system.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel fronts a 120-mph speedometer with a 6k-rpm tachometer, fuel level, coolant temperature and oil pressure gauges and an analog clock. The six-digit odometer currently shows 293k miles with 5k added by the current owner.
This C123 is powered by the 3.0-liter five-cylinder OM617 turbocharged diesel engine that has been converted to run off both diesel and vegetable oil with a secondary fuel system. The engine is factory rated at 123 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque which is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission. In July 2022, the current owner replaced the radiator, transmission fluid and filter, thermostat and vacuum control valve.
This 300CD comes with thirteen years of service receipts totaling over $100k which have all been scanned and added to the photo gallery. Starting in 2009, the car received a full restoration from JD’s Auto Restoration Center which included replacing and refurbishing many different components and systems including steering, suspension, air conditioning and heating, brake components, engine components, interior, a full respray and much more.
The Carfax shows the first reported mileage at 135k miles in 1994 in California, and later showing registration in Pennsylvania from 2007. The Carfax shows no accidents or damage reports. This 1983 300CD is now offered for sale on behalf of the current owner in Newtown, Pennsylvania with extensive service records, original manufacturer’s literature, a clean Carfax report and a clean Pennsylvania title.
For most of the collector car market, the mileage of a vehicle is a simple metric used to help calculate value providing a negative correlation between the two. That is with one exception, the market for Mercedes-Benz diesels. The Mercedes-Benz diesel engine has a legendary reputation for reliability which is only reaffirmed by its typical collectors who enjoy driving and maintaining these cars in an effort to accumulate an amount of miles that would typically be fatal to any other car. The mileage is often juxtaposed by thorough maintenance and care from its owners allowing the cars to carry themselves as proud pieces of automotive excellence without shying away from daily driver status. This example is certainly no exception. With six-figures of detailed maintenance, this example looks to be in excellent shape even with its 293k-mile badge of honor. There is no higher honor than adding miles to a classic Mercedes-Benz diesel and for one very lucky owner, they will get the privilege to watch this car roll over to 300k.

Headed for the home stretch here. I am standing by for any late questions. I can also assist with shipping. I have shipped cars all over the country, to Canada and Europe too.
Well this has been a bit of a quiet auction. I believe you're correct these came with a 4 speed auto not 5 good catch. Take a look at the paperwork on this car. Someone spent north of $100k restoring this car. No stone left un touched. Mechanically its was also gone through recently by my friends at AutoTronics in Southampton PA. They're my go to shop for all of the modern Porsche, Ferrari, Lambo and Aston's I auction around the internet. This car is truly in tip top shape cosmetically and mechanically.
