I am glad to see the early bids, and Thank you all for your interest. I like the way this auction is starting out. I did notice while listing details for the auction that the car was almost due for an oil change. I took it yesterday to our Mercedes Specialist in Benicia and had an oil service done. The mechanic was very impressed with the car and by its condition, he even offered to buy it! He did mention that this year model has suspension springs for all four wheels, not air suspension nor hydraulic suspension, both of which he said are more difficult for service and repairs. Good luck to all bidders. Remember I will gladly show the car to anyone who is local enough to come to Benicia (San Francisco Bay Area in California). This Car reminds me of my favorite saying "anyone can have a new car that looks new, however only a few people have the benefit of having an older car that looks new, " In this case 19 years ....a beautiful car, and I hesitate to write this as I plan to be bidding on it.....
Welcome to our auction for this magnificent Mercedes R231 SL 550. We have been looking forward to offering this, bright red (fire opal red) fun and fast Mercedes Roadster. This model is in such "like new" condition that it almost needs to be seen to understand the care it has been given. However, we selected the MB Market to sell the car as it will expose the Mercedes to a national and worldwide audience of Mercedes lovers. There is really nothing to not love about this car. It is a chance to have an SL 550 that looks like new without spending well over $100,000. Having said the car almost needs to be seen I am offering during the 8 day auction to show it to anyone in California, or close enough to visit us in Benicia (San Francisco Bay Area) to view and drive the car for yourself. I do note that at the writing of this comment the gallery of photos is not yet posted. I guarantee that it will be a thrill when you can see all the photos we have provided. The car Fax shows, or reports "not actual mileage" it looks to me like someone checked the incorrect box when titling the car recently. Any other solution, is the title branded?
I have been having trouble obtaining shipping costs to California. DHL will not ship domestically, U Ship will. could you provide the approximate weight, width, length, and height. Thanks in advance
I do have a question, why sell the top and keep the car? I also have a consideration about shipping. I am in California and wonder about shipping something that is mostly glass on a long trip? Not to mention the cost.
This is a great car, good color inside and out, and these are very special cars for the price, whatever it turns out to be. I am a fan of Sports Car Market Will the license plate go with the car? Since I am bidding I will not wish you good luck!!!
This is a very nice car and the best year to acquire. I note that the 6 didgit odometer must not have "clicked" completely to the 100,000 mode when it turned, and now it also shows 53,406.....my conclusion is that the true mileage may be 153,406, since a report shows it at 148,000 FEW YEARS Ago. great color.....

I am surprised that the steering gear box had to be rebuilt at 42,000 miles. What were the symptoms that caused the repair?
Does the air system work property, that is cold air conditioning, and warm heating? does the cruise control work? any warning lights on when driving or idling?
