This 2005 Mercedes-Benz E500 4Matic Wagon is finished in Bordeaux Red Metallic (567) over a Beige (835) Nappa leather interior and powered by a 5.0-liter M113 V8 paired with a five-speed automatic transmission with SpeedShift. This S211 wagon was originally delivered to Mercedes-Benz of Arlington, VA in October 2004 with an MSRP of $67,570 according to the original window sticker. Equipment on this example includes a factory Airmatic suspension, power-adjustable heated seats, heated steering wheel, Entertainment Package, Heating Package, Memory package, four-zone automatic climate control, through-loading feature, left & right rear door sunblinds, an electric/tilt sunroof, 6-disc CD changer, Harman Kardon stereo, COMAND w/navigation, power cargo cover, retractable cargo net/dog barrier, power rear liftgate, and a rear-facing third-row bench seat. This S211 has a custom rear exhaust from MA-Motorsport and the OEM rear mufflers have been removed. Recent service includes replacement of the SBC pump, fuel tank, front driveshaft, power steering pump, both batteries, new rear OEM brakes and rotors, new OEM wheels, and new Continental tires. The car shows 126k miles from new and is now offered with a clean Carfax report, factory literature, service records, two keys, original window sticker and a clean Maryland title.
The exterior is finished in a rare shade of Bordeaux Red Metallic (567). Features include quad headlights, fog lights, a glass sunroof, roof side rails, and a rear wiper. No accidents or other damage are listed on the included Carfax report and paint is believed to be original. Rock chips, dings and other imperfections are highlighted with specificity in the gallery including scrape on the rear passenger corner and a small crack in the rear passenger tail light lens. The sunroof was resealed in 2021 and does not leak according to the seller.
The car was fitted with a new set of OEM multi-spoke wheels with new Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 PLUS XL Tires in 2021. The car is equipped with an Adaptive Damping System and a self-leveling Airmatic suspension which can be raised or lowered 2+ inches from inside the cabin. The airmatic compressor filter, valve block, front driveshaft, SBC pump and power steering pump were replaced in 2021-22 along with the rear brake rotors and pads. The rear passenger air spring reportedly has a slow leak when sitting for extended periods and the seller notes that replacement of the rear shocks/dampeners should be completed in the near future. The suspension can be further tuned to Sport 1 or Sport 2 settings which lowers the car between .6 and .8 inches while stiffening the suspension and steering for spirited driving.
The interior is trimmed in Beige (835) Nappa leather with burl wood accents on the dashboard, steering wheel, center console, and doors. Interior amenities include power-adjustable heated seats with memory, heated steering wheel, through-loading feature, left & right rear door sunblinds, 6-disc CD changer, Harman Kardon stereo system, COMAND w/navigation, heated screen washer system, heated rear glass, automatic/power-operated cargo cover, retractable cargo net/dog barrier, power rear liftgate, and a rear-facing third-row bench seat and four-zone automatic climate control. The seller reports that the vanity mirror flap on the driver's visor is broken and one of the burl wood trim tabs on the center console has come off (but is included). The HVAC blower reportedly squeaks slightly under lower speed operation.
The multi-function steering wheel fronts factory instrumentation including an analog clock, a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and digital gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The dashboard houses the climate controls, an infotainment screen, a 6-disc CD changer, a pop-out storage cubby, and a lockable glovebox. The digital odometer shows approximately 126k miles since new.
The cargo area includes the through-loading feature and can be accessed via a power tailgate and contains an automatic/power-operated cargo cover, retractable cargo net/pet barrier, and hideaway rear-facing third row seats with cupholder and headrest.
The 5.0-liter M113 V8 is paired with a five-speed automatic transmission with SpeedShift as well as 4MATIC all-wheel drive. Power was rated at 302 hp and 339 lb-ft of torque when new. I flew to the seller location and drove the vehicle home which was over 1300 miles. Good seller and vehicle was as advertised. The car was clean with a full tank of fuel.
@Muirheadj1 check if your clock is a bit fast compared to universal time. I’ve had that on other auction sites before
Tried to bid and it went from 1 min to done

@BlueDevilBill I believe it is mentioned in the auction description, but there is some drone at around 2k RPM, not severe though. I was considering having "J-pipes" made to fix it, but it doesn't really bother me.
The engine sounds great. I removed my resonator on my E55, and I got some noticeable engine drone at speed. Any issue with that, given I didn't see an X-pipe in the pics (maybe I missed it, or the cat does that)?

@gbouton I love Pinehurst! We lived in Rodgers Forge for several years until 2018 and that was my daily dog walk -- down Blenheim to Gittings and back up Pinehurst. Weekends I would go down to the end and back up. Lovely neighborhood!
Reserve has been met.

@prsbirds Blue Ridge would be a great choice...I've been using them for 20+ years. I also used to live just south of Towson in Pinehurst/Bellona-Gittings area. I was considering bidding on this one too mostly because it's so close, but not quite what I need. But good luck, hope you get it!
@drprofessional I was thinking Blue Ridge Sports Cars might be good but would definitely defer to your experience with local shops! I used to use the place on the west side of York Rd north of Warren for my W123 (which I miss terribly), not sure if they are still around though. Here's to hoping!
@prsbirds I expect it will hit the reserve. It's an awesome car, you won't find another one like it. Don't let it slip away. You have a leg up on everyone else if you are local. No shipping fees, you can come see / drive the car, and pick up the title in person. I can even drive it to your house before I take my tags off. You can also continue dealer service at either of the dealerships it has already been to, or select one of the many great independent mechanics in the Towson and Cockeysville areas. Good luck.

@WilkesJim It looks like I do not have the 3rd seat headrests. I thought that they were in the car somewhere but they aren’t. The gas tank was replaced because it was leaking when I bought the car. This is a common problem with the W211. When they leak they fill the inside of the car with gasoline vapor, so it’s not something you can ignore. It has to be fixed. Google “W211 gas smell.” Mercedes lost a class action lawsuit and covered replacement under warranty for awhile, but that has expired now. It is a very expensive repair. If you are looking at a W211 for sale and there is no documentation showing that the tank has been replaced, you can expect to have to do that repair.
@J_KMorgan It is a great car. I’ve owned a number of Mercedes, and besides the gray market 2.5-16v Cosworth 190e, this has been my favorite. I was very conflicted about selling, and still second guess myself a little bit, but I have other “fun” cars I don’t want to sell, and I just won’t have room for this one when the new car arrives.
Are the third row headrests included? Why was the gas tank replaced?
I have a 2004 E500 wagon with 330k miles. I love it. The new owner is going to love this car with this fantastic color combo!
@cm3esquire I would say it’s been a love - love relationship for me. I’ve owned a number of different Mercedes over the years, as well as a few BMWs, Audis, and Jaguars. I’ve always accepted that when owning an older European luxury car, you’re going to have to pay a bit extra for maintenance. Anyone that doesn’t like that can get a Lexus. I’ve had a couple of them too, and yes, they were reliable and problem-free, but they just felt like an imitation German car, a really nice Toyota. A Mercedes feels like a Mercedes. To quote Point Break, “If you want the ultimate, you have to be willing to pay the ultimate price.” In the case of this car, I’ve done most of the expensive maintenance. The new owner just needs to replace the rear air springs and enjoy it.
I had an 04’ E500 Wagon. It was such a love hate relationship. It is essentially an S class wagon, powerful and luxurious. The ABS and airmatic struts and related components were constantly failing. I probably would have kept the car had I known about the Arnott conversion kit (which I installed in my 07’ S Class).

@Bill No, I did not keep the original mufflers or wheels, I let the shop dispose of them. The original wheels were bent, and it made more sense to buy new alloys than try to repair the originals. The current wheels are identical to the original wheels. Any muffler shop can reinstall a set of new rear mufflers. I personally would not put the original / OEM mufflers back on because the car was as silent as a tomb, and I wanted to hear the V8. It's really not loud because the system has other mufflers and resonators further up on the exhaust. The passenger's rear air spring will leak down over the course of hours to days. The rate seems to be affected by whether I park on a flat vs. uneven surface. It will often take 2 - 3 days if parked on a level surface. As soon as the car is turned on the compressor comes on and pumps it back up. It would only become undriveable if the shock actually bursts or the leak becomes bad enough that it causes the compressor to fail. This has been my daily driver for over a year, and the leak started about 2 months ago, so it's relatively recent, but the new owner is going to want to replace the rear air springs soon as they are past their life expectancy anyway. I contemplated the replacement options, but since I was planning on switching to a new EV at the end of the year, I decided just to get one now.

Will the original mufflers and original wheels come with the E500? How long does the shock leak down take in order to be undrivable ?
