This 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SL recently received a complete restoration in 2009 and now shows 2,525 miles presumably since the restoration. Finished in Bordeaux Red Metallic (567) over Beige leather, power is provided by an 2.8-liter fuel-injected inline-six paired with a four-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. Factory equipment includes a beige folding soft top, a paint matched red removable hardtop, heating and fresh air, a front defroster, manual windows, and a Becker Mexico radio. The most recent maintenance items include four brake calipers, four new brake rotors, and new pads all the way around. This Pagoda SL is now offered for sale by the selling party in Kennedale, Texas with a matching hard top, spare wheel with cover, and a clean Colorado title.
The exterior is finished in Bordeaux Red Metallic (567) with a beige fabric soft top and features chrome trim lining the windows, bumpers and beltline. Included with the car is a removable hardtop which is paint-matched to the body color. Additional exterior equipment includes two-speed wipers with a windscreen washer and a driver-side door mirror. The exterior was reportedly repainted during the restoration in 2009 and shows no signs of rust or damage. Silverline exhaust tips are installed on the factory style twin outlet pipes.
14” wheels wear polished chrome hubcaps with paint-matched centers and are fitted with Hankook Kinergy ST tires measuring 195/75 with date codes from 2024. Braking is handled by dual-circuit power-assisted discs both front and rear. Brakes underwent an overhaul in preparation to sale including four brake calipers, four new brake rotors, and new pads all the way around
The cabin is trimmed in Beige leather and includes matching brown loop carpets and a body-color dashboard with engine turned accents and bezeling. Both front seats are adjustable fore and aft with adjustable backrests and headrests. Seats were reupholstered during the 2009 restoration. Interior amenities include a dash-mounted VDO clock, a lockable glove compartment, heating and fresh air vents, manual windows, a windshield defroster, and a Becker Mexico radio. The trunk houses a full-size spare with its matching cover.
The instrument cluster includes a 140-mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer as well as gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The mechanical odometer shows just 2,525 miles presumably since the restoration. There are some cracks on the left side of the black steering wheel.
This 280SL is powered by a 2.8-liter fuel-injected M130 inline-six producing 170 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. A full restoration was recently completed in 2009. Underside photos are included in the gallery and show newer Bilstein shocks, a new exhaust system, and undercoating.
This 1971 280SL is now offered for sale by the selling party in Kennedale, Texas with a paint matched removable hardtop, the spare tire and cover, and a clean Colorado title.

The W113 is an iconic shape from the Mercedes-Benz Golden Era and is an excellent choice for an inexperienced classic car collector dipping their toe in the heavier hitting side of German collectibles because of a few things. Firstly, these hold their value really well. When you’re done having your go at W113 life, they usually sell for the same amount you bought it for, if not appreciated. Secondly, parts availability is really well supported. Any classic Mercedes independent shop has a guy that knows how to work on these. Thirdly, they are not complicated. These are classic cars you can drive regularly. If you’re used to more modern cars, a W113 won’t be a huge departure and doesn’t have a steep learning curve. This example is in a beautiful color with recent restoration work being done taking care of expensive items such as paint, mechanicals, and especially interior work. This appears to be a turn key example ready to enjoy the upcoming warm summer days. Get out and drive your classics!
