This 1982 Mercedes-Benz 300CD Turbodiesel shows first documented registration in California where it remained through present day in 2026. This coupe was purchased by the current owner in 2014, shows records from 2003 through 2026, and substantial mechanical work over the last two years. This C123 is finished in Signal Red (568) over Black MB-Tex (131) and powered by a 3.0L inline-five turbodiesel OM617A engine paired with a four-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. Additional features include power windows, vacuum locks, electric sliding roof, fog lights, and chrome brightwork around the grille, windows, body line, and bumpers. Nearly $15k of mechanical records accompany the car and are shown in the gallery. Work performed in the last two years includes an air conditioning service, new tires, new fuel injectors, new glow plugs, new return hoses, a valve adjustment, all new belts, a transmission service, a differential service, a new master cylinder, and a new alternator. This 300CD is now offered on behalf of the current owner by the selling dealer in Burlingame, California with trunk mounted safety triangle, spare tire, factory jack, first aid kit, a Carfax report, one key, and a clean Florida title.
The body is finished in Signal Red (568), a particularly rare color for these cars, with chrome brightwork around the grille, windows, body line, and bumpers. Other features include an electric sliding roof, power antenna, front yellow fog lamps, and an upright Mercedes-Benz star hood ornament. The selling dealer reports the passenger door and quarter panels have received prior paintwork. The Carfax report shows minor damage reported in 2019 presumably resulting in the aforementioned door repaint. Detailed images of the body, brightwork, glass, and exterior are included in the gallery.
The 14" Bundt alloy wheels are wrapped in 195/70 Toyo tires on all four corners. The tires show 2025 date codes. Braking is provided by four ATE disc brakes. A full sized spare is photographed in the trunk along with an OEM jack and tool kit.
The interior is upholstered in Black MB-Tex (131) and complemented by zebrano wood accents on the center console and dash. The wood appears in excellent condition. Amenities include power windows, fader, vacuum powered locks, automatic climate control, and Becker head unit controlling the stereo. Aftermarket speakers have been added to the parcel shelf behind the rear seats. The seller indicates that cruise control is inoperable and the glove box latch is looser than factory spec.
The vinyl steering wheel frames a 85-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and indicators for coolant temperature, oil pressure and fuel level. The odometer shows 121k miles.
This 3.0L inline-five turbodiesel OM617A was factory rated at 125 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque when new. Power is sent to rear wheels through a 722.3 four-speed automatic transmission.
The included Carfax report shows no major accidents since it's first entry in 2000 and linear mileage updates. This 300CD is now offered on behalf of the current owner by the selling dealer in Burlingame, California with trunk mounted safety triangle, spare tire, factory jack, first aid kit, a Carfax report, one key, and a clean Florida title.
With less than 100,000 coupes built out of the 2.7 million W123 production run, these two door executive diesel passenger cars are quite uncommon and niche when you look back in history. The 300CD launched in 1977 and the W123 immediately had a long waiting list with customers clamouring to get in the driver seat of the new executive class Mercedes-Benz. With CAFE overrulings pressing a boot on the throat of performance cars, Mercedes-Benz decided to graft their newest OM617 engine into the C123 cars, which was a shortened wheelbase and chopped W123. When the OM617A debuted in the W116, the S-Class trickledown tech puddled into the engine bay of the 300CD when it got the turbo engine in the series II cars. This is a very handsome example that presents as clean as we'd hope. The rare paint color shows how dynamic these cars can be. The black lMB-Tex seats look to be in great condition as does the zebrano wood. The coupes feel very different from the sedans. If you’re a OM6XX diesel enthusiast, you must tick off owning a pillarless coupe and having a W123 platform car means you have taste and an interest in incredible engineering.
