This 1992 Mercedes-Benz 600SEL was sold new through Mercedes-Benz of Atlanta, Georgia in 1991. It remained with the original owner through 2007 when the current owner purchased the car privately. Since 2007, this 600SEL has been a part of the current owners collection and preventative maintenance has been addressed as needed including the replacement of the upper and lower wiring harnesses. Finished in Black (040) over a Black Leather (261) interior, power comes from a 6.0-liter M120 V12 paired to a four-speed automatic transmission. Features include a power sunroof, heated and reclining front and rear seats, automatic climate control, cruise control, adjustable suspension (ADS), and an original Mercedes-Benz integrated carphone. This 600SEL currently shows 86,539 miles on the digital odometer and is being offered by the current owner with comprehensive service records, manufacturer’s literature, two keys, and a clean Georgia title.
Finished in Black (040) with Grey lower cladding, the body is free from any dents or rust. Exterior features include glass headlamps with wipers, integrated factory yellow fog lights, rear automatic parking poles, an automatic power antenna, and a power paint-matched sunroof. All body panels reportedly align evenly and the clear coat shows nicely with no signs of fading or failure.
This example retains the original 8-hole wheels in OEM condition free from any scuffs, bends, or curb rash. These wheels measure 16x7.5” on all four corners and are wrapped in Michelin Primacy MXV4 tires measuring 235/60. Original painted center caps are installed on the wheels.
The cabin is trimmed in Black Leather (261) across the seats, door cards, head rests, shift knob, and steering wheel. The original floor mats remain with the car and are shown in the gallery below. Burl Walnut wood adorns the center console, door cards, shifter surround, rear ashtrays, air vents, and B-pillar trim. The original Becker head unit is still present and functional including amber backlighting. Additional features include power-adjustable heated front and rear seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, an automatic dimming rear view mirror, rear reclining seats, and rear passenger climate control. The original phone located in the dashboard is still included and does power on along with the chorded handpiece located in the center console.
The digital odometer shows only 86,539 original miles. Instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer with a 6k-rpm redline, and a digital odometer with trip function. Additional gauges include fuel level, oil pressure, fuel economy, and an analog clock. All backlighting works as intended and digital displays show all pixels.
The 6.0-liter M120 V12 was rated at 402 horsepower and 428 lb-ft of torque when new and is paired to a 722.3 automatic four-speed transmission. Service records since 2007 will accompany the car showing documentation of ADS service, various suspension bushings, engine and transmission mounts, a new air conditioning compressor, and replacement of the upper and lower wiring harnesses through the owners independent service shop specializing in Mercedes-Benz. The soft close door feature is reportedly non-operational.
This M120-powered W140 is being offered by the current owner with comprehensive service records, manufacturer’s literature, two keys, and a clean Georgia title.
On the brink of the auto industry migrating away from high displacement and naturally aspirated power plants, the M120 V12 powered Mercedes from the 90’s remain flagships against even the newest iteration of the S-Class and other modern luxury options. We’re marginally accustomed to seeing late model V12 W140’s but when it comes to pre-facelift cars, they’re few and far between by comparison. While the history on this one certainly proves it wasn’t lingering in a garage for years, it does show how resilient these cars were when used as intended. Obviously the second owner brought it to a good home because it’s rare to see even the best W140’s in this shape cosmetically or mechanically. We’ve been lucky enough to spend a little wheel time in this example and are confident the next home will treat it just as well.

@zachmac Exactly!
@GASMotorcars Thanks for the quick response. Not quite parktronic but I guess it was better than hiring two flagmen when berthing this land yacht.

@zachmac The parking poles automatically raise when the car is placed into reverse. The idea is to give the driver a reference point for where the rear corners of the car are. Regarding the rear view mirror, it was motorized for these 600's, meaning you adjusted with the knob much like the exterior wing mirrors. This one had some minor play and vibration so the owner has presumably placed the foam between the mirror and the headliner to minimize. We've spent considerable time in it and can verify the mirror doesn't move now.
Okay, I'm intrigued. Can anyone explain to me the operation of the "automatic parking poles"? I assume those are the two little posts shown sticking up out of the trunk in a few pics? Also can the seller speak to the issue with the rear view mirror? I assume that foam crammed in there is not factory.
To everyone who's asked for photos of records, thank you for your patience. The photos have been uploaded and absolutely emphasize how nice this example is. Please let us know if there are more questions! Everything from records to OEM brochures, and magazine articles can be found in the binder.
Photos of recent service records, complete binder with supporting documents, and spare key have been uploaded to the gallery.
I can see why some people have this as their most favorite Mercedes-Benz model of all time. It's almost my top favorite... But still, this example is gorgeous and I hope whoever wins it will have a truly great car, as a 600SEL should be.

This is such a beautiful example, and the photography is lovely. I've always loved these cars for their elegant design and presence. Whoever wins this auction will truly have a gem. GLWA
Wow this is pretty! Fair to say we don't see early examples anymore.

I had typed a longer post, waxing poetic about this car, my favorite Mercedes-Benz model of all time. It disappeared when I had to login. Bummer. GLWA, these are incredibly special cars and quite rare to find this nice. A high-water mark in engineering prowess from another era, never to be repeated.
