This 1997 Mercedes-Benz S500 Coupe was first registered in California with later registration in Nevada, Arizona and New York where it resides with its current owner showing 143k miles from new. Finished in Black (040) over Beige Nappa Leather (235), power is provided by a 5.0-liter M119 V8 mated to a five-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. Equipment includes rear-axle self leveling suspension, dual-pane windows, a power glass sunroof, remote central locking, power adjustable heated front seats, rain sensing wipers, xenon headlights and Parktronic parking sensors. Modifications include Lorinser front and rear spoilers, Lorinser D93 wheels, a JL Audio sub and a Remus exhaust. Recent service consists of new front struts, a new steering gear nut and idler arm, and an oil and filter change. This S500 Coupe is now offered for sale with original manufacturer’s literature, both keys, a clean Carfax report and a clean New York title.
The Exterior is finished in Black (040) and features a Lorinser front and rear spoiler painted in body color. The seller notes that the bumpers have had previous touch up work and that the rear bumper shows some signs of fading. Exterior features consist of dual-pane glass, a heated windshield and headlight washer system, heated power side mirrors, a power tilt/slide glass sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, Parktronik parking sensors and remote central locking.
19” Lorinser D93 wheels are fitted wearing Falken tires and feature Lorinser branded center caps. The chrome finish appears in good condition and shows no signs of damage. The rear axle features a self-leveling suspension and the front shocks were replaced in July 2021.
The cabin is trimmed in Beige Nappa Leather (235) with matching carpet and floor mats while Burl Walnut wood trim lines the center console, dashboard and door panels. The seller notes that the wood trim shows some signs of cracking. An aftermarket Kenwood Excelon head unit is installed in place of the factory unit along with a JL Audio sub in the trunk. The factory head unit is included and documented in the photo gallery. Interior features consist of heated 12-way power adjustable front seats, an 11-speaker Bose audio system, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control and a power tilt/telescope steering column.
The wood/leather steering wheel fronts a 160-mph speedometer along with a 7k-rpm tachometer. Other instrumentation includes an analog clock and gauges for fuel economy, fuel level, coolant temperature and oil pressure. The digital six-digit odometer reads 143k miles with just 1,800 added by the current owner. A row of warning lights is featured below the gauge cluster along with a digital outside temperature indicator and controls for the resettable trip odometer.
This C140 is powered by a 5.0-liter DOHC M119 V8 which is factory rated at 315 horsepower and 347 lb-ft of torque which is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission. The seller reports that an aftermarket Remus exhaust has been fitted to the car. Recent maintenance included an engine oil and oil filter change along with new front struts and a new steering gear nut and idler arm. Underbody photos are viewable in the gallery.
The Carfax report shows linear mileage updates from new with regular service visits and no accidents or damage reports. The seller notes that most service records from new are included with the car. This S500 Coupe is now offered with both keys, original manufacturer’s literature, a clean Carfax and a clean New York title.
A cold start and walkaround video is viewable below.
The C140 chassis comes from an era where no expense was spared in the pursuit of unparalleled luxury. The build quality is often associated with bank vaults while the Bruno Sacco styling is nothing short of monolithic, appearing to be chiseled out of a large block of stone. Stepping inside reveals an interior that was designed purely from a perspective of comfort with soft Nappa leather and rich wood trim found on all surfaces. Coming from a time of “more is more” when it comes to buttons, the center console operates as a command center allowing the driver to operate the many functions of the car from an arm’s distance. The silky smooth 32-valve M119 V8 along with the bulletproof 722.6 transmission serves as simply a means to an end allowing the car to briskly accelerate forwards with no fuss, vibration or drama. This example has been upgraded with Lorinser D93 19” wheels whose design is a nod to the popular monoblocks of the time. The Lorinser front and rear spoilers add a subtle sporty touch while the Remus exhaust offers the only hint that a reciprocating piece of machinery exists below the hood. If you’re looking for an uncompromising luxury experience from an era where luxury was about comfort and usability and less about flash and frills, this C140 is the perfect example.

This fine example of the best series S class,is a time capsule of one of the best automotive era's in a long time. I have had the pleasure of seeing this beauty in person and pictures don't do it justice as how clean and period correct it is. Someone is going to get a certified winner.
Hi to all the bidders and viewers of the auction and thank you to the MB Market for listing my S500 Coupe. I'm going to be very sorry to see this one go! While I have always admired and liked the 140 chassis, I never particularly sought one out. The ones that always held particular appeal in period, and still today, were accessorized by the likes of AMG, Brabus and Lorinser. Like many of you, I grew up reading car magazines and classifieds like European Car and Dupont Registry. One company that figured prominently in such publications was Claus Ettensburger Corporation, better known as CEC. CEC was the importer of highly desirable European auto accessories from the likes of Lorinser, AC Schnitzer, Techart, Antera, Azev and Remus, just to name a few. Vehicles sporting such accessories were not common sights outside of the magazines, but every now and then a Mercedes or other car sporting such goodies would be seen "in the wild." And the owners of such vehicles were usually quite discriminating in their taste and definitely not of the proletariat. None other than Michael Jordan had two Lorinser equipped 140 Benzes during his Bulls heyday. This car fits that description as it appears to have been done in period, most likely at CEC rather than an authorized retailer, sometime in early to mid 2000. This makes sense when viewing the carfax as the first owner purchased the car off lease in late '99. The first owner was the creator of the Rollin Hard lowrider T-shirt line among various other graphic T-shirt products. He had it until 2016, when he sold it to an executive at his company. When I came across it for sale, I knew it was something a bit more special than a similar mileage stock example and was almost certainly modified in period rather than pieced together over the years. And it was so period correct that it brought me back to those days of drooling over the CEC catalog, which was sent to me after I sent my $5 to them! Normally, an owner would go with the full Lorinser kit, meaning wheels, full bodykit and exhaust. The first owner of this car opted for a more subtle, different setup with the Gen 2 Lorinser front spoiler (the Gen 1 had small slats on the sides), rear spoiler w/o brake light, 19" chrome D93's and a Remus exhaust, which is almost never seen on the big body Benzes. These mods set the car off extremely well. I have another Mercedes which is many multiples more valuable than this one, much more rare and even more special and this car gets far more thumbs up and people stopping and asking about it. I purchased the car sight unseen, hoping for the best and expecting the worst. Luckily it was far better than I could have imagined. However, it is not a show car. There are some scratches, dings, a few dents here and there. Pretty much what one would expect from a 143K mile car. However, the mechanicals and undercarriage are spot on. This car is far better than many I have seen with half the mileage. Originally my plan with this car was to keep it and enjoy it for several years before giving it a like new paint job and a period correct McIntosh sound system to set the car off exactly the way I would have wanted it in the '90s. It was certainly going to be a keeper because I won't be able to find another quite like it, in as good shape with the right mods and the right price. Unfortunately, there are a couple of reasons why I have to sell it, one of them being a complete lack of space. Also, I am in need of a car to be kept overseas and I need to implement a one in, one out policy. So unfortunately this has to go. I will certainly regret selling this one!! I look forward to answering any questions and seeing this one go to a great new home.................
