This 1992 Mercedes-Benz 240GD is a numbers-matching example that is believed to be one of only 85 examples used by the Danish military before being refurbished in Poland and imported to the United States in 2022 by the seller. This former Danish Military/NATO communications vehicle (NATO Stock # 2320221213809) is one of 258 240GDs built in this configuration and one of only 85 delivered to the Danish military. Work prior to import is said to have included a repaint in Green and a refresh of the interior with Black MB-Tex upholstery. Power is provided by a 2.4-liter OM616 diesel inline-four paired with a 4-speed manual transmission, a dual-range transfer case, and front and rear locking differentials. Additional equipment includes a rear-mounted AC unit, steel bumpers, and 16″ steel wheels. A fluid & filter service were performed along with new tires added in preparation for sale. This 240GD is now offered by the seller in Florida with a clean Florida title and 65k Km (~40k miles).
The long wheelbase body was originally ordered as a “paint to sample” camoflauge paint scheme for the Danish military, as per the datacard. It was repainted in Green as part of the aforementioned refurbishment and features black trim, bumpers, rear ladders, and rear glass caging. The truck features OEM headlights, black painted grille, OEM rear tire carrier, black wheel-arch flares, dual gun ports, and steel bumpers. The seller reports a small crack in the hood and a light scuff on the A-pillar and passenger side. Close up photos of these imperfections are noted in the gallery below.
Black-finished 16″ steel wheels wear new 235/85 Cooper Discoverer AT3 tires with Mercedes Center Caps. Stopping power is provided by front disc and rear drum brakes.
The front bucket seats, door panels, and rear bench were reupholstered in Black MB-Tex vinyl prior to importation. Additional equipment includes black rubber floormats, an aftermarket rear-mounted Marconi A/C unit and a partition with window between the cabin and rear cargo areas.
The two-spoke steering wheel fronts a 160-km/h speedometer, an ammeter, and a combination gauge indicating coolant temperature and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 65k kilometers (~40k miles).
The 2.4-liter OM616 diesel inline-four sends power to the rear or all four wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission, a dual-range transfer case, and front and rear locking differentials. A fluid & filter service were performed along with new tires added in preparation for sale. Underbody photos are viewable in the gallery.
A cold start video, driving video, walkaround video and differential operation video are viewable below.

@DCESAL They slide almost all the way back which leaves some space to recline the seat back. I'm 6'2 and fit comfortably. The partition is not removable.
How far back can the front seats be adjusted traveling aft? Is the bulkhead partition btwn the cockpit and cargo compartment removable?

@Cornell89 this has a OM616.938 engine. Not sure about 0-60 or top speed but it sure isn't setting any records. This is a numbers matching truck. The Force Motors engines were built under license for use in their own vehicles.
@DCESAL that knob is the kill switch. The Kasten's that were delivered in this configuration did not come with the rearview mirror
Is the engine an OM616.936, rated at 71 hp? What's the approximate 0-60 and top speed? Also, do you know the curb weight? FYI: Mercedes stopped making the OM616 engines in the 1980s, but they are still being manufactured under license in India by Force Motors. Since this is a 1992, it must have an India-sourced engine. Still a neat off roader, but something for the MB purists to consider.
@edand no, not possible without cutting
Hi, in the first YouTube video, the driver turned a key/ knob under the center stack before inserting the key into the ignition. What happened there? Also, noticed the rearview mirror is missing in the cockpit. Won't this be a problem with MVD in many states?
Can the rear canopy be removed (without cutting) to convert to a truck?
Good morning everyone and thanks for stopping by to take a look at this incredible Kastenwagen. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
