This 1986 Mercedes-Benz 300E is finished in Smoke Silver Metallic (702) over Anthracite MB-Tex, and power comes from a 3.0-liter M103 Inline-6 paired to a four-speed automatic transmission. The seller acquired the car in early 2022 and has added approximately 500 of the 123k miles shown on the analog odometer. Features include a power sunroof, cruise control, automatic climate control, and power windows. Recent services includes new spark plugs, distributor cap, and an O2 sensor. This 300E is now being offered by the current seller and owner with recent service records, previous records, complete manufacturer’s literature, two keys, a Carfax report, and a clean Illinois title.
Finished in Smoke Silver Metallic (702) with contrasting Grey bumpers and black trim, the body presents well with no signs of corrosion. Also shown are original headlamps and glass along with upfitted tail lamps from a later W124. A ding in the rear left door is noted just in front of the rear wheel and can be seen in the gallery below. Exterior features include glass headlamps with wipers, a painted power sunroof, and a power antenna.
This 300E wears 15” OEM Mercedes-Benz wheels from a W202 C-Class. They show well with a 8-hole design and painted face. Mounted are General Altimax tires measuring 195/65 showing 2020 date codes. The wheels show light curb rash and OEM center caps.
The cabin is trimmed in Anthracite MB-Tex across the seats, door cards, head rests, armrest, center console, and lower dashboard. The steering wheel is finished in Black along with a Black upper dash. The original Black carpets and floor mats remain with the car and can be seen in the gallery below. Zebrano wood adorns the center console and shift knob. Some fading and light cracks can be seen in the trim around the shifter. An aftermarket head unit has been added and all interior functions reportedly operate as intended.
The airbag steering wheel frames a 160mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer featuring an analog clock, along with gauges for coolant temperature, fuel level, and oil pressure. The six-digit odometer now shows 123k miles.
The 3.0-liter M103 inline-6 was factory rated at 178 horsepower and 188 lb-ft of torque when new. The seller reports recent services to include new spark plugs, distributor cap, and O2 sensor under current ownership with other fuel parts being replaced previously. Extensive service records are offered with the car including receipts, dealer papers, and written records throughout the car's history.
This 300E currently shows 123k miles and is being offered by the current seller and owner with recent service records, previous records, complete manufacturer’s literature, two keys, a Carfax report, and a clean Illinois title.

@Hodag @mpysh This was a deal. Great Purchase.
@Mpysh Congrats! What a deal, thank you to everyone who bid. Mpysh, please send me a message and we'll get this ball rolling!
@gsxr Thank you. I've always wanted an older Mercedes. Hopefully this one won't give me too much trouble. =]
Congrats @Mpysh! Rare color combo here, very few Smoke Silver cars have black interior. Interesting that the seats were replaced at some point, originally leather, now MB-Tex. Great deal too!
Waw. Great price
I sure was tempted. Not enough room though. I think the buyer did great!

@mcm1997 As far as I know, yes. The shocks are a little tired, you notice it around 80mph it gets a little floaty. I purchased from Atlanta and drove straight shot with no problems. Tires are good, brakes are good, pads are getting low but nothing bad. I haven’t had it in any stop and go traffic, but I’ve never had any cooling issues. I’d say just the usual 36 year old car things, and look over everything as you go, check the oil, watch temps, etc. But I haven’t had any issues.
Does it currently need any work done? AS FAR AS YOU KNOW, could it be driven from Illinois to New Orleans?

@elie7elie no, I believe that started in 1992-1996ish
@elie7elie Hello! Yes, it was converted May of 2004. Blows cold!
Also, has the AC been converted from R12 to 134a and does it blow cold? By the way does anyone know what year Mercedes started putting 134a in the W124?
Is it the engine harness on these that is made from biodegradable material I think? Has it been replaced?

@Nsmith95 Thank you for the information, I was never aware of the oil leak there, or the previous attempts at selling at a lower mileage. To everyone bidding, please bid accordingly.
Wow, even have the previous owner involved here. Nice! Thanks for the timely response.
@Kevinbriem hello, 2nd owner here following the first and original owner. The fuel system work consisted of all 6 new fuel injectiors and seals, fuel pump relay and fuel accumulator. I also did a transmission service, coolant and brake flush. Along with the distributor cap and rotor. The receipts should still be with the rest of the service history. As for the oil leak, I had a 45 year MB master certified technician diagnose the leak as the headgasket around where the oil drains from the cylinder head to the engine block. Also the front timing cover was leaking a little bit. I'd also like to touch on the mileage. When I sold the car to the 3rd owner, the one listed on the carfax as being in Indiana, the car had roughly 129k miles. The gentleman who bought it is known in the area to roll back odometers. The first time he was selling the car he listed it as having 70k miles. The 2nd and last listing was with around 123k miles. If I was to estimate the current mileage, I'd guess around 130-135k. That being said the car is still a exceptionally clean example of a w124. And to whomever purchases will be extremely pleased. I do also still have the original wheels if the buyer would like them.
@Kevinbriem Hello, and thanks for reaching out! Absolutely zero rust, surprisingly this car came from around this area leading back to Indiana and Ohio I believe. It seems as this was never driven in the rain! The quick turnaround in selling is due to me moving states, and can’t take it with me. The fuel system work was from a previous owner, I was told the Fuel Pump relay and Fuel Accumulator were replaced, appears so. I pulled an injector out and they also appear to have been done at some point. I did spray some parts of the undercarriage with some Wurth Fluid Film when purchased, to help keep that frame clean. However there is some oil that does appear to leave a drop or two coming from somewhere. I did the valve cover gasket, but still haven’t been able to pinpoint it. Move date is approaching and haven’t been able to touch this car in a while due to work. Thanks!
Looks pretty nice and interesting color combo. Almost zero rust, which leads me to believe it's not originally from Illinois. The valve cover still has factory finish! A couple quick questions. Why the quick turnaround on selling. There was mention of extensive fuel system work. Any specifics and when would be helpful. Lastly, looks like some weeping around left front suspension/frame. Have you had the splash cover off to see if there are any leaks? If not, maybe a couple photos. I told my family no more 124s, but I really like this one. Thanks in advance.
