Looks like you’d be rolling the dice on an r129 fit, since these are wider than standard stock and have an offset 1 mm higher. Wider optional wheels for r129’s have offsets in the 20’s. These Brabus V’s would put a lot of metal inboard, and may not clear.
Isn’t that just the stock bumper strip that hasn’t yet been painted the body color?
Am I seeing this correctly? 2 days left and no bids yet? Seems odd.
Unless something really weird is going on, those aren’t 16” Monkar wheels as reported in the text. They’re 17” Albali wheels.
Is a rhd car considered problematic for regular use on roads in the US?
@haidaviaclassics. The roughly $550 shipping estimate to NY in the US would apply to other US locations ? Or with this vary significantly depending upon actual location?
Come on. Both engines have their positives and negatives. Both have their committed partisans. Overall, both are good engines. I’ve got an M119, and I really enjoy winding it out between 4k and6k in second and third gears on backcountry windies. Feel the 4 cams come on strong and valve timing advance. What a rush. But on the other hand, the M113 apparently is notably more torque-y in lower rpm ranges. Always trade-offs.
@VantageAuto. Thanks. And btw, I wasn’t trying to be critical. Car looks like a real beauty, with a great color combo.
@VantageAuto. Exactly what I was just thinking. You’d report that just to be sure insurance would cover it
@VantageAuto. It’s weird someone would report non-accident damage. I’ve never seen that before
@VantageSuto. There as some non-accident damage at some point unless that’s a total error.
@VantageAuto. Very late for this question, but what do you know about that damage
Re the shipping estimate of about $600 to the US. Is that the economy type shipping that takes a couple months?
If this car’s overall condition is as good as it looks, this was very well bought.
Any chance these fit r129 chassis 1988 SL500?
Look fantastic on any r129.
Are these the same wheels that were bid to $3,550 but didn’t sell back in August this year?
Estimated shipping cost to the US?
Guess you’d pay customs duty if shipped into the US from Spain? Anyone know for sure?
Yes, just a great color combo. And can’t beat that early car look on those wheels. True M-B.
Appearance-wise, to me, this is one nice looking SL500, even without the SL1 package. I think the 8 hole wheels look really great on the car. Of course, they’d be better in 17” or 18” size. This car has ASR instead of ESP. Was ESP an option in 1998?
I’m puzzled. Why wasn’t this bid higher? The mileage isn’t super low, looks like there may be some deferred maintenance, and not the most exciting color combo. But the damage reports do seem minor, and the car looks solid, so why no higher bids?
Soft top does not seem to be locking down properly at the rear.
Probably will see a few more bids in next few minutes. Fabulous wheels.
Is the stand seen in some of the pictures included in the sale? If so, does it fold up or disassemble in some manner for transport?
Any comment from seller on the odometer issue?
Thank you for shipping quote.
I’ve also sent a direct message to see if I can get a shipping quote.
What happened to the gauge cluster surround? Hugely discolored/grainy. Hard to believe the Florida sun alone did that.
No hard top with the car?
Hi. Pictures don’t show the entire headliner. Any problems with separation at all? Thanks
I agree that is a great color combination, the car looks very nice, and the driving video suggests the engine is in good shape. There do seem to be some problem areas. The walk around video shows the driver side headlight is cockeyed, indicating the after accident repair was not 100%. The condition of the soft top, including the stained and fraying headliner, shows that replacement might be a good idea. Most important, at roughly 96k, the car could be nearing the point where head gasket replacement is required. It’s well known that many of the in-line sixes in the 90’s SLs experience head gasket failure somewhere between 100k-200k.
Back when MB built really great cars. And so good looking too.
I’m a bit disappointed this seller didn’t do a better job of responding to questions and providing information about the car. Case in point: pictures/videos of the soft top. Of course, it’s possible this might actually help some bidder get a good deal on the car. Personally, I just need a bit better information flow before bidding seriously.
@nvanmali95 Thanks. Can anyone else show the car before auction end while you’re out of town?
I live within driving distance of this car, and have asked the seller directly if I could look at the car before the end of auction. I have not yet received any response from the seller.
Need to see operation of the soft top. Did I miss it somewhere?
Looks like nice car and great color.
Looks like it did. Shows as sold.
I’d love to know if that high bid hit the reserve.
I have received no reply to my inquiry (sent directly to seller) concerning replacement of the original faulty engine wiring harness used in all 1995 SLs. Unless seller confirms replacement of the defective harness, all potential buyers should budget at least $1,000 for immediate replacement.
As a 1995 MY, the car left the factory with the defective bi-degradable insulation in the engine wiring harnesses. Have they been replaced? If not, they will require replacement.
Carfax indicates the seller has owned the car only a few months. Is that correct? If so, why selling? Was it purchased to flip?
@MrJohnson. Hi. I apologize if I misunderstood. It does take some effort/time to check for new main harness, but worth it. Remove the battery and track up the main harness to see if you can find the replacement tag. Hope it’s there.
@MrJohnson. It is misleading to call replacement of the original wiring harness “preventative maintenance”. It is not. Every one of these original harnesses will fail. Every single one. It is simply a question of when. If this has not been replaced, it will fail for the buyer of this car, or for a subsequent owner. It’s actually fairly easy to see if main wiring harness has been replaced. A replacement harness will have a white tag on it with the date code. One hopes the car already has this replacement, and it would be worth you looking to see.
Unless I’m hugely mistaken and it has been been replaced, car will need entire new wiring harness installed. It has notorious “bio-degradable” harness. Even if no symptoms are exhibited now, it will fail unless entirely replaced.
