Seller, are there any markings, stamps, badges or paperwork that says this was a Trasco-built limo? Some of the interior workmanship leads me to believe it was done in the US.
Although I may sound bias, this model (190E/w201) in this latest AMG kit is the best looking AMG of the pre-merger era. Lots of close seconds, but by size and looks, is just perfect to me.
Great example! I love the 280TE and wish we had more of these models here, but they were rare to begin with with far fewer examples being imported into the US. The description used by MB Market needs to be checked. Says there’s a lockable glovebox when pictures show otherwise. Very rare options such as the heated seats are not mentioned. To the seller, the car is listed as a 1980. There are some features on the car that didn’t come out until very late 1980/1981. Could the car be in fact a 1981 model year?
Could you confirm the transmission works as it should without any odd sounds, worn gears and/or other damages?
@StuttgartClassixsorry, you’re right. That was a typo. It was supposed to be Gen 2 Euro.
@AE1728no it won’t and it would be a shame if someone would cut/modify a new exhaust like this to make it fit a w201.
@StuttgartClassix I have great knowledge on the subject and have had several sets and still have spares for my personal cars. The pictured spoilers all look authentic and have the correct markings, labels and stickers. The Eastern European copies are made out of fiberglass. Authentic pieces are not fiberglass. A simple “tap” of the materials will let you know the difference. For those who were curious about how a sedan Gen 3 Euro spoiler fits on a Gen 2 Euro SEC front bumper, it will be close but the sides of the spoiler will not sit flush. There will be 1/2” gaps along the sides working its way up to the top of the bumper.
I’m curious if this kit also contained stickers? My 190E AMG that has the same spoiler had one or 2 silver with black lettering stickers affixed. On a side note, this style spoiler looks amazing on the w201 and 124 chassis.
I have a sweet spot for the 280TE. Approximately 20k units were produced worldwide. This is the top of the line model, although some argue the 300TDT is, but performance-wise, this is the car. It’s a shame we never got these cars in the US, and it’s hard to compare the Euro spec motor to the lethargic and lower compression US variant M110. Very few were privately imported and are still around. I noticed this car appears to have had an AMG kit at one point. You can see the outlines and holes in the body where it was once attached. Is this the same 280TE that was for sale several years back with the AMG kit and Centra wheels?
I’m tempted to bid just to have as a spare. I just installed a NOS unit to my wagon this past summer. Same green adhesive stickers and at the time I was thinking there’s got to be only a handful of these out there.
Great item, sort of makes me wish I had a car to put this on. To answer the question about the HWA part numbers, that started in late 1991.
@jago_mbit also claims it has a factory air suspension.
Extremely rare item, especially in NOS condition. One thing not seen in the pictures or seen being mentioned is the missing camshaft. If the M103 was anything like my 2.6 M102 Brabus head, it was converted to a mechanically adjusted lifter set up.
@edand Euro motors were higher compression. I’m going by memory here, but the US spec 16v’s were rated in the 150’s hp while the Euro model was around 185hp.
Hello seller, is this motor out of a US spec or a Euro spec 16V? I know the US spec is lower performance compared to the Euro version.
This is a spoiler designed to fit the Gen 1 sedan bumper. It does not have the cut outs to go around the fog lights seen for the C126 spoiler.
@KRH1hi Kim! I just want to correct a statement about the front bumper. The version you described is what was seen typically on Japanese market examples. The one pictured on the car in question is a correct style and is the “original” look. Now back to the car being listed, the only thing that can be visibly authenticated as a real AMG piece are the wheels. The bodykit is not an authentic piece, just in the style of one. It was discussed at the previous listing. The photos of the last listing are by far one of my favorite of a w126 in AMG styling.
@Shervinburlwood was an option except for the SEC models. US spec 500’s came with burlwood as a standard package. Even the Euro market 280’s could be optioned with burlwood. As to the car being listed, I think it would look much better had it been equipped with the proper wheels for a pre-1986 version. Basketweave Rials, BBS or even the 5 spoke ATS AMG wheels would have pulled off the look better. Thin saying this while I acknowledge that the 3 piece AMG wheels are my all-time favorite wheels. As to the steering wheel, that style was not involved with AMG’s styling. The version 2 which the wheel is came out in the late 80’s.
@pcm1 understood. I still didn’t get an answer to my original question. I’m trying to zoom in on the pictures and I feel it’s a one piece bumper and spoiler. Can you verify that the bumper does in fact have metal trim that was painted over?
LOVE the look of the car! Curious, did this car have Gen 2 Euro bumpers installed with genuine AMG spoilers? Are the chrome trim on the bumpers painted or is it integrated as one piece?
