Wow. What is this worth?
Great ending!
@mcm1997 Whatever. To compare a $50,000 opening bid to $250 is an absurd comparison. I also knew that my $10,000 bid has no chance of winning. To each his own, but my $10,000 bid is not quite as ridiculous as the opening bids. Thanks for your opinion but this isn’t my first auction.
Beautiful. I must admit that I don’t get the bids this low. I just sold a V12 here last week and I don’t plan on winning this one, but I’ll submit a more respectable bid 😬
@Toddmichael01 Congratulations! I think you stole it!
For what it’s worth to the bidders, I was a previous owner of this car a couple of years ago. It was trouble free for the time that I owned it. My only reason for trading it with @Crbine123 was to get a 2005 S600. Bid with confidence as it is even cleaner now than it was two years ago! Good luck
@mikelaca The acceleration numbers are almost identical, but the driving characteristics are totally different. I have had four of these and four 600s. This car has a growl sound and a 600 is more sublime and understated. I love them all. I have an 05 S600, an 08 CL600 and an 09 S600 which my wife uses as her daily driver. It’s hard not to love any of them! This car drives great!
@jcd214 I can’t speak to what was done before I purchased it. I think the seller, as a dealer, purchased it for the mechanic we use for him to use as a daily driver. He found an S65 and decided to sell this S55, so feeling confident that the car had been gone through by my mechanic I decided to buy it. I didn’t ask what he had to do to get it where he wanted it. All I remember doing is buying Cocomats and probably new tires, since I almost always buy new tires. I think I had him get the wheels refinished, or he had already done it. Sorry I can’t answer any more questions. But the car drives great!
It’s funny to me that after daily driving this for about 7,000 miles I never knew that the original phone was still in the console! Again, this is a great daily driver and hopefully it sells to someone who drives the heck out of it!
I am the long time client of the seller who has been driving it for about eight months or so. I am posting before speaking to the seller. He originally secured the car for another client who happens to be my Indy mechanic. Seller and I both use him. He bought it for himself after working on my 05 S600. He loved my 600 but is younger than me and wanted an AMG version similar to my 600. When he took possession of the car through this seller he went through the car since he is an expert and wanted it to safely carry his wife and infant daughter. He’s been a Mercedes tech for years, working for the dealer for 6-7 years before going on his own, among other jobs from traveling the world dealing with race cars to preparing million dollar cars for auction. He is truly an expert. I currently have three other S classes, all V12s. I have owned four S55s, four E55s, and although not supercharged, two C55s. I am very familiar with these cars although I work on none of them! When my mechanic found an S65, he wanted to sell this, and knowing his attention to making sure it was in top shape for his use, I decided to buy it. Of all of the four S classes I had at the time, the three V12s which I still own, this was the only one that never had to spend time with him in his shop. It truly is amazing how comfortable, fast and reliable they are. With these miles, I wasn’t sure what to expect since it was the highest mileage car I ever had bought. This car helped assure me that mileage is not the most critical factor here. It is condition. I can’t remember what doesn’t work properly, like side bolsters , etc. But the car drives like it has 30,000 miles, not 117,000 or whatever. It drives straight as an arrow and the engine and transmission run perfectly. It truly is remarkable. In my opinion everything that needs to be working properly does. Seats are comfortable and the leather in this generation is second to none, even my S600s. I know he put new tires on it when he bought it, so they probably have around 6,000 miles on them. He had all four wheels professionally refinished. I bought the Cocomats which look fantastic in this car. I know any dents were removed paintlessly (if that’s a word), and before I decided to part with it I bought a second key to the tune of $550 from the dealer. Ouch. You can stream from your iPhone through the aftermarket head unit, phone and music. It had very dark tint on all windows which probably helped over the long term, but I couldn’t see! I had it removed except for the rear windshield. Rear sunscreen works. Air conditioning works flawlessly in Louisiana heat. I’ve had this thing about buying a 2004-2007 Jaguar XJR for some time, and this dealer found a very nice one in an unusual color, so I moved on. Possibly a mistake, but time will tell. This S55 is going to make someone very happy at an incredible value! Best of luck to all here!
Yep. Congratulations
KO bid?
@Smrlsn09 Do you know if they fit W220 S class?
@thphon My mechanic worked at the dealer in New Orleans for several years. He’s outstanding. He said they never could figure out what was causing it to intermittently go out, other than some kind of radar or radio transmitter somewhere nearby that disables it. I just drove it southbound on the causeway to New Orleans and it gets disabled within two miles upon entering the bridge. The bizarre thing is that it works perfectly northbound from New Orleans to the north shore and the span is maybe 50 feet away from the southbound lanes! Crazy. I just got here and saw RNM on this beautiful CL. I hope they can get a deal done. Have a great evening
@thphon I also have a 2008 CL600 and a 2009 S600, both with Distronic and it is much improved over any W220 or 215 like this. It was upgraded with the W221/216 series without nearly any issues. Not only my opinion but others that have had it, so it’s your call. I’m just sharing my experiences. I’m getting ready to drive it across the Causeway bridge across Lake Pontchartrain and the Distronic will become disabled within the first two miles, guaranteed!
@thphon If you’re considering this car, the lack of Distronic is a positive. It’s very unreliable in this generation. I have an 05 S600 with it and hate it. Interference shuts it down regularly and the car must be turned off to reset it.
Agree about underside pictures. Paint on roof? Tire dates? Not that many fluid changes listed. What works and doesn’t work, particularly air conditioner. Thanks for your upcoming introduction!
Very nice, and well bought IMO! Better looking than any of the new ones. Congratulations!
A steal at this price.
@Khalkhool78 It’s Maderaconcepts.com. 805-962-1579
@Khalkhool78 Madera does excellent wood restoration on these cars.
This car is owned by my MB technician. It is as advertised, absolutely flawless! Bid with confidence.
Stunning!
Fantastic example! Someone is going to be very happy!
@GASMotorcars Was that a hint that the reserve is met?
So please advise. Will purchase of this car be treated as any type of donation to a 501 c3 by our illustrious IRS? Explaining could help the bidding. Thanks much
@Jvspallo I’m a little confused as to saying that the reserve was lowered and the car would sell today. That comment usually comes when you lowered the reserve to a current bid. I’m hopeful that @TEENY gets the car, as she (I’m assuming she) would look fabulous in it, even though I don’t have a clue as to who that is.
This is a unicorn. Unbelievable car and color combination with the greatest wheels of that generation! I probably won’t make it to the end but the car deserves a somewhat respectable opening bid! I guess you never know. I’m not ready for a divorce but with three V12s and another AMG car I could be tapped out 🤦🏻 GLWA
I’ve drooled over this one for a while, but have run out of room. It’s spectacular! @Whb2 is just being cute. Not.
Timing is everything. I believe the buyer should feel very good about his purchase. The seller was very transparent. If I wouldn’t have bought another car three weeks ago I would have definitely been a bidder here. Congratulations to the buyer. I think you bought a very clean and somewhat rare beauty!
I wonder what the reserve was. I thought it would be sold at the last bid considering mileage. Oh well
@mtbemail Very nice car bought right, I believe. Absolutely the nicest looking one with just the right mods. Congratulations and enjoy! I’m envious
@araikoh Can you comment or post picture of the rust that you referenced? I can’t see it!
Very well bought with all of the heavy lifting having been done. I know what those repairs cost! Congratulations, especially the buyer
It’s times like this that I wish I didn’t already have three of these magnificent beasts. Otherwise I would definitely be bidding on this
Unbelievable. Gonna get stolen
@stanbrooks Sorry, as you can see we were typing at the same time!
Can you comment on what appears to be a microphone above the emergency flasher button?
Very nice! First time seeing a W210 in this color. Got to be pretty rare. GLWA
Well bought in my opinion! Enjoy
I sure was tempted. Not enough room though. I think the buyer did great!
The least costly Mercedes I’ve seen sold on a premier online auction! Probably won’t be the cheapest to own, but the winner obviously knows what he got! Congratulations
Oops. Not contact. Congrats!
Fantastic buy! Great color and condition. Contact!
I can’t believe I leased this model 22 years ago. One of the best ever
97 E420 sold on BaT today for $18,000 with buyer fees. I think this is a rarer car that will be a great investment. Congratulations!
With out of control inflation this could be an outstanding investment
Very cool car. Could get stolen!
That’s a great buy! Congratulations
I know the seller well and have lost count of how many car deals we have done together over the last 35 years! I have seen this car and it is real and will be worth every penny paid for it. Pictures are one thing but in person it will not disappoint! Good luck to all.
Congrats @donsongo! Now fly to New Orleans and have fun driving it home. You got a great car that you’ll probably never lose a dime on!
I would have never sold this car if I was single!
@gbouton Could be. I don’t know by your username, and I probably couldn’t remember anyway! It’s true. These are phenomenal cars that are getting harder to find and, in my opinion, only going up in value. I sold a CL63 on this website so I don’t think the owner will mind our conversation. I’m certainly not hijacking the auction, only speaking the truth. This car is in outstanding condition and there aren’t many other like it in this condition. If you’re looking for a clean, rare 06, this is incredibly nice. Good luck!
@Hemedude I know this car as it is still titled in my name, I think! I traded with the dealer for a CL600. While the description says no mods were done to the car, they’re referring to the engine and performance aspect. The original owner in Texas changed out the original head unit with a more modern, at the time, unit that has satellite radio. It cost $2,700 about 15 years ago as I recall. The receipt for the work should still be in the car. The power amp is mounted in the trunk and is very professionally done and takes up very little room. As for my experience with the car in general, it was my second C55. This one is in outstanding condition and whoever ends up with it will be very pleased. I believe these to be the simplest and among the best AMG cars ever, and I’ve owned around ten different AMG cars over the years. My 2005 that I owned a few years back was outstanding, and I recall spending absolutely nothing besides oil changes. My only reason parting with this one is the type of driving that I regularly do, which takes me to and from New Orleans to Covington, LA over a 24 mile long bridge. I kept the miles down on this car purposely and just drove it on the Northshore. The car needs absolutely nothing to the best of my knowledge and I would drive this car across the country without hesitation. I worked out a deal with the dealer for the CL600, and have two other S600s. At my age they’re just better suited to the driving I regularly do. Best of luck to all bidders. This is a very clean car.
@Cuttysark Full disclosure. Cuttysark is a friend of mine. And my brother, you should definitely consider this! This is stunning
OMG! Stolen in my humble opinion. I was seriously considering bidding farther but just arranged a deal for another V12 Mercedes. I never thought it would sell this “cheap”, for lack of a better word. Congratulations to the buyer on a fantastic looking car!
And we’re off!
This could be a steal!
This is a heck of a nice car at this money!
Oh well
I hope reserve is met
@zachmac It’s above mine also, but wherever it ends up will be a bargain, IMHO. God it’s gorgeous!
I saw this car before the seller’s ownership. Whoever wins this will be very happy!
@zachmac Like you I watched the BaT S65 today. I would agree on mileage/depreciation/perception of value based on miles, regardless of how much has been spent on maintenance. This beauty is perfection! The color combo is spectacular. It’s beyond what I feel like spending but I believe that regardless of what it might eventually sell for, it will be as fine and beautiful a car ever produced. I wish you well!
Oh my...just beautiful
Holy moly!😳
You got a phenomenal buy! I expected a bit more but I’ll move on to the next one. Thanks much for all of the bids from everyone. @Alishazri I’ll expect your contact information soon from MB Market
Reserve is met. Keep bidding!
@retiredpasta Maybe!
Five minutes!
Thirty minutes to go! And we have a ways to go from the current bid. Y’all wake up!!
Good morning watchers and bidders, Due to the nature of my business I will be in and out this afternoon but will make every effort to reply as quickly as possible to any comments or questions. I believe the reserve is reasonable and hopefully will be met and hopefully exceeded on this low mileage well maintained example. I will also let you know when the reserve is met, assuming that it will be. Who knows?!
@Armenian Sorry, so it’s certainly possible that it was changed but is original Mercedes glass.
@Armenian I know of no changed windshield, and I never noticed the lack of the Daimler sticker. Those can be bought on eBay. The glass appears to be OEM as shown in the added photo. Thanks for your question!
A couple of things I forgot. Bear with me! The car came with the original AMG floor mats. They’re in pretty good shape without the foam backing crumbling. I decided to buy an additional set of OEM Mercedes C216 mats and put the front mats, which obviously get most of the wear, in the trunk. I left the rear ones in the back knowing nobody would be sitting back there. That’s why there’s a picture of the two front mats on the ground. Plus before the question is asked, I’ll give you the tire dates. Left rear 2020 (I imagine most people looking at this knows the tire was manufactured the 20th week of 2020) Right rear 4817 Left front 2017 Right front 2017 So the three tires from 2017 have less than 4,000 miles, and the left rear was replaced with a matching Continental tire due to a nail. Tires are excellent and good to go. Thanks to all again for your bids. Tomorrow is the day, and we’re getting lukewarm towards the reserve, which I will disclose assuming it’s met!
Sorry but let me address one more item mentioned in the MB repair bill from the copies in the above photos. The auxiliary cable in the glove box had lots of cracking on the insulation. The auxiliary cable is NLA from Mercedes. I decided to buy Gorilla tape and tape over the cover. I bought a Bovee 1000 Wireless Music Interface Adapter, and lo and behold, it works fine! So you have the ability to stream music from your iPhone!
I will mention that I just read again the description under the main heading and noticed a few omissions. In addition to the fluid changes mentioned, also the radiator coolant flush was performed, both valve cover gaskets, eight spark plugs, a repair to the sunroof that was a defective/broken windscreen deflector, and another oil and filter change which I asked not to do since it was done in March prior to my purchase. And don’t forget about the obligatory $100 wiper blades! The bill also references a vibration in the passenger door speaker that is only noticeable when listening to music with a lot of bass, which I almost never do. Listening to sports talk radio is almost all I listen to besides the music coming from the exhaust! The dealer estimate to fix this one minor vibration was shockingly absurd, so I will let the new buyer deal with it. I tried two independent shops and none were willing to put me on a schedule for a small job. To the best of my knowledge, that’s it. She’s ready to roll for many more miles! Thanks much.
@Mriddle77 Thank you again for your bid, and to all others!
@thembmarket Thanks for adding the second startup video. The first startup video was a booboo! I started the car without the iPad video recording! I’m not the most technologically savvy guy, so I started the car again and recorded. I wasn’t happy but was away from the car to record a more accurate cold start video. The second video, which was just added, is a true Cold Start video after the car was sitting in my garage for about three days. Thanks to all for your understanding and patience with my video shortcomings!
@Cossie16valvePlease contact me through the contact seller button at top of listing.
@Cossie16valve Thanks much for your comments and questions. Neither the previous owner, who I’ve become friends with, or myself have ever had a low coolant light or any ticking or any other unusual sounds upon cold start. There is a cold start video above after car sat covered in the garage for three days. Sounds normal and awesome! This debate about whether to proactively change the head bolts, even with a failure rate of probably <2%, is personal. My service advisor at MB in New Orleans, who I’ve used for 30 years, said he would leave it alone and change the oil every 4-5,000 miles as opposed to every 10,000 miles. And he loves doing expensive repairs! The engine number is 156984 60 024122. It would be one of the engines with the older head bolts. FCP Euro sells the head bolt kit for $331. A good indy can change without removing the heads and doing more work internally for about $2,000 labor. A friend of mine chose to do it and that was the cost. It’s a personal decision in risk assessment IMO, and others. Thanks much again and good luck in your decision as to whether or not to bid.
Thanks much to all again for your bids! I hope we get there by Thursday afternoon!
@Armenian No fluid changes were done to the ABC. The W221/C216 generation is not nearly as troublesome as the previous. My MB dealer says leave it alone. The receipt from MB lists the fluid changes, and the Carfax references the oil change prior to my purchase, I believe in March of this year. I had the transmission, brake, differential and radiator flush done. I’m not looking at the receipt now, just replying from memory. A/C was also serviced. Thanks for your question.
@93Proof Thank you for your bids!
Thanks much for the bids so far! The car is impeccably well kept. I have sold a car on the other big auction website, and some of the comments and questions can be exhausting! The quietness here I found unusual but refreshing, which is partly why I chose the MB Market to list it on. I’m available to answer any questions, and the car can be seen and driven if you’re in the New Orleans area. Good luck to all and keep the bids coming!
@Cossie16valve. The car came from Florida with the window tint. It’s actually good for preserving the interior but I’m personally not a fan of tint! It’s in great shape but it absolutely can be removed. Thanks for the questions and interest.
Good morning Thanks for your interest in this fantastic example of the CL63 with the hard to find P30 performance package. The car is in outstanding condition inside and out. No blemishes anywhere. The first question asked below is why sell so soon after buying. I own three other Mercedes and have owned at least 30 others over the years. This is my third C216 models. I’m 66 and still trying to figure out, for me, which one I prefer the most. I also have an S600 which my wife primarily drives. I’m about to have an opportunity to purchase a CL600, which is why I’m selling this car. This is a bad a** car and is in stunning condition. I think it’s a little too radical for me! I have another AMG car which can fulfill that void when this one leaves. The type of driving that I regularly do is better suited to a more, I hate to use the word floaty, compliant suspension with smaller wheels. It’s not that this car is uncomfortable, but it is designed for more high performance driving as opposed to commuting, in my opinion at my age! The question I will address before it gets asked is the head bolts have not been changed. I’m not sure that if I decided to keep it I would bother with it. I would change the oil and filter at 5,000 mile intervals instead of Mercedes suggested intervals. I personally believe the head bolt issue to be somewhat overblown with failure rates estimated to be less than 2-3%. I understand if you’re one of those unfortunate small percentage of people who might experience the failure it can be catastrophic, but changing them now can be done for under $3,000. It’s a personal choice I believe. A VMI is being added to show the service records as well as the detailed receipt from the Mercedes dealer showing the work I had done in planning on keeping it. I’m crazy about changing all fluids when I see no records of that being done, so whoever buys it will be comfortable knowing it’s all fresh. I’m not a dealer, just an avid Mercedes owner who tries different models and moves on pretty quickly. I didn’t plan on selling it this soon but I personally will be more comfortable in a more “old man’s version”! This is an outstanding example whose paint and interior are virtually flawless. If you’re looking for a CL63 I don’t believe there’s a finer example anywhere. I’ll do my best to answer any questions to the best of my ability. Thanks much for looking and don’t let this outstanding example get away!
That’s a very nice ride for almost free! Congratulations
Very cool! GLWA
Where’s the action?
Such a quiet site compared to the big boys site! Kind of nice with no snarky comments!
@peterquinones2 Congratulations on a real beauty. I was curious as to the availability of original SA rims and there is a set on eBay in Japan for $3,500 including shipping. I love those wheels, and as suggested earlier you can sell yours for ???. Just a thought. Enjoy!
Madera refinished some wood trim on an S6 Audi once, and it was like new. Highly recommend using them. GLWA
Looking like a great buy!
Very well bought in my opinion. Congratulations and enjoy!
Very well bought!
I had a C55 and sold for the same reason as this seller. I probably should have kept it regardless. I found the perfect buyer and unfortunately he was in a multi car collision and it was totaled. He was moderately injured but not bad. Great looking example here. I need another car like a hole in the head! Will watch to see where it goes, and who knows! GLWA
RNM?
A 95 E320 with over 60k miles just brought $14,500 on another site. Surely this will heat up. It’s stunning
This is a first for me. Incredibly rare I would think. GLWA
Absolutely gorgeous color combo. Just bought an 08 CL63 with P30 in bulk/blk. Wish it had this color interior! GLWA
You could find a set of OEM rims and sell the monoblocks and really be in it cheap!!
A very good buy, in my humble opinion!
@V_R_ Congrats! I've owned many of these cars and they're wonderful, especially with V12. Keep up with maintenance and she should serve you well.Enjoy!
This is looking like a heck of a deal
I just bid on this car. There are no comments or details concerning what is described in the posting about the ABC being serviced. What was done? I couldn’t understand from the invoices photographed. Pump, blocks, hoses? The seller will help his cause by adding to his listing, otherwise this is not going to go much higher in my humble opinion. How long does the car sit before falling? What was done? What can you point out that’s wrong or not right? I’ve owned lots of these Mercedes and they’re all ticking time bombs. Are you a dealer? Why buy it and drive it 7,000 miles to sell it? Sorry if this sounds blunt, but the seller is MIA.
I wasn’t trying to be negative about this site. If you’re happy with the results, my opinion is that the buyer should be thrilled! Your car is beautiful. You happened to mention the one that sold for $39k, which I thought was really a bit of a reach, but they’re hopefully thrilled also. I liked yours better and was pulling for you! Congratulations and I would buy a car from you anytime. As I mentioned during the auction, I bought one a couple of weeks ago with less miles and the P30 option, and am very happy. Car is going to dealer tomorrow to change all fluids and whatever else pops up. Congratulations again to both of you. Best regards
No offense to the MB Market at all. I’m glad to see new alternative sites like this one. But I can’t help but wonder how this car would have done on the “other” established big one. Just an honest thought.
Great buy!
@CPL888 Yep
Actually keep the bids coming because the car is worth it!
Keep the bids coming so I’ll feel better!!
If I wasn’t sitting in mine that I just got two weeks ago I would be all over this one
Wow! What a generous reserve!
Maybe so!
This is about to get stolen

Static50 said:

What was done? What can you point out that’s wrong or not right? I’ve owned lots of these Mercedes and they’re all ticking time bombs. Are you a dealer?
